Very neat place to stop. Alot of items to look at. The only thing that was weird. Was that was told that they operate on donations only but was not allowed to enter until we paid a set price for a donation. I was not allowed to receive a receipt for my donation either and they only received cash.

Closed weekdays so I didnt get to see it, but the building looks lovely and I deemed it worthy of a stop while I was in town on business. No reason to demote it, so it gets five stars to keep its rating.

Very real to life. Unpolished reality. Connie was very helpful.More history about Byrd Lockhart would have been nice.

Nice and creepy museum to visit. They still have the cells on the upper levels and some nice exhibits on the first floor. Definitely worth the small donation you pay to see it.

I really enjoyed this little museum. They did not have much to show due to the size of the building, but the tour guide was very informative and sweet. It was nice that the tour guide gave us two flash lights to tour the second and third floor of the building that once was a prison, by our selves. It is a little creepy at first because theres this big, heavy, rusty, metal door that creeks very loudly, which the elderly lady closes behind you once youve stepped in. It it truly an interesting experience as a couple because of the spooky historical contents they have kept in this old prison. Oh, and definitely read the Historical Marker in front of the building- that too is a little funny and interesting when you begin to picture in your head what went on when this prison actually had prisoners in it at the time.I hope the owners do not change much of this building, I really enjoyed viewing the parts of the building that were kept original- it has character.

Quaint, nostalgic, honest jail with a long colorful history. Many movies were filmed there too.

This place is FANTASTIC, if you like being given free reign in an abandoned jail with nothing but a flashlight. Amazing, friendly and knowledgeable staff, hidden gem worth hours of exploration in an otherwise sleepy TX town. We did this in between our BBQ Trifecta challenge in Lockhart.
