A place of love and beauty. My family and I love walking the temple grounds. Always a special peaceful feeling. If you are not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints you are still welcome to come walk the grounds. There is also a visitor’s center here that teaches a lot about our church and what goes on inside temples. Worth visiting!

Love the temple!! A place of peace, it’s quiet, serene surroundings are a respite from all the busyness of life. The visitor’s center is definitely a must, the missionaries there, are from all over and know so much about the Portland temple, the meanings of the symbols on this beautiful building and the meaning of the temple to the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They give tours around the outside of the temple and have some of the best videos filled with messages about our Savior Jesus Christ are played for the public in the visitor’s center. Stop by and check it out for yourself.

Great haven from the speedy pace of day-to-day life. This temple, built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a mainstay part of their religious practice. Surrounded by beautiful trees and flower gardens, the grounds offer a peace a serenity not often found. Located off one of the major highways you can see it during the day, or catch a glimpse of it at night with its outdoor lighting.

Beautiful grounds, Temple and a great feeling just being outside of it.Nice little visitor center with restrooms that are very clean.Which I had time to go in and spend some time but didn’t. I recommend a visit even if it is just to see it from the outside and a quick walk through the visitors center.

When I was in college, I first went to the Portland, Oregon Temple before it was a part of formal practice. I felt an aura of awe, and a reverence that left me feeling honored and important. I did feel like there was a reluctance in the air for revealing the secrets of the naming of the rooms. Today I feel as if I want a picture so my presence is backed up by the wonder and ominous backdrop that the marble steeples and walls of the Temple evoke.

What a beautiful building! I first saw it from the freeway heading south the night before. Absolutely stunning image to see as I came around the bend. The next night I stopped and walked the grounds around the temple. There were some youth there to do some temple service and it made for such a strong spirit. I wish that I had had time to attend a session. Hopefully next time.

The Temple is a sacred place. When Moses went on the mount he took off his shoes because he was on holy ground. We likewise need to strive for Holiness as we come to the temple. Those who have made their lives holy and have obeyed Gods laws can enter this sacred place. Those who havent can feel the Holy Ghost testify to them that this is the Savior Jesus Christ house and that they must prepare themselves before they can enter.

A breathtaking monument to the reality of God.The visitors center has guided tours, historical information about the temple, and many depictions and videos about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.Something for the whole family, my 9 and 11 year old children loved the interactive Bible videos in the visitors center, and my wife and I enjoyed the beautiful landscaped grounds and peaceful sitting areas.

The Portland, OR temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is nestled in a beautiful grove of trees close enough the interstate 5 to see it when passing by, yet insulated sufficiently that the temple grounds are peaceful and calm. The grounds themselves are worthy of a visit and my favorite time of the year to visit is when the Daphne blossoms and sends forth its magnificent perfume. The temple visitors center is open to the public and a great resource for those curious about the temple and the ceremonies and instruction that go on inside. It is staffed with knowledgeable volunteers who are a delight to speak with and prepared to smile and give a little extra sunshine to your overcast or drizzly Portland day. Definitely a location not to miss while visiting Portland.

This isnt a public church. Unlike the great cathedrals of Europe, you cant just walk up and go in. To get in you must first join the Mormon Church and pass a one-year probationary period where you promise to attend all your church meetings and pay them 10% of your income. At then end of this probationary period you will be considered temple worthy and given a special temple recommend that allows you to get in. When you go to the temple youll find that the sacred experience is just a rehashing of plagiarized and modified masonic rituals and a lot of repetitious telling of biblical creation stories. During all this instruction you sit in a chair, in a classroom-type setting, watching a sophomoric video/slide presentation with some secret hand shakes and other culty stuff thrown in for good measure. The whole experience is anti-spiritual; you are part of a large group that moves through in mechanized fashion, with no time for meditation at all. If you want a good spiritual experience I recommend meditating on a mountain top. Its more spiritual than anything you will find in a Mormon temple, and will get you much, much closer to God.

Beautiful peaceful place. There is a visitors center south of Temple building on same grounds where one can learn more of Jesus Christ and his temples. At Christmas throughout December there are musical performances in the small auditorium but one needs to reserve a spot. Anyone can also enter the foyer of the Temple and also see the beautiful atrium filled with tropical vegetation .the skylight roof gives you views of the spires and the angel Moroni statue

This place offers space for respite, meditation, and communing with God for people of all faiths. The extensive gardens are ever-changing and always perfect. There is a reflecting pool, a separate fountain, and several places for sitting to pray or ponder. You may also take photos anywhere outside (which you will want to do; did I mention the beautiful gardens???) Feel free to bring children who are mature enough to be reverent, because this is a sacred place. In fact, to members of the church this is our most sacred place. For visitors who are not LDS, you are welcome to explore all the beauty outside the temple. You will even be able to enter the large foyer and atrium inside the temple. Beyond that, you will need a temple recommend to enter. (A temple recommend is just a piece of paper that confirms the person has been interviewed and is committed to the covenants they made in the temple, especially that they will treat holy things sacred.)As a visitor, you may also like to explore the visitors center. It is set up specifically to answer any questions you might have about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. There is no pressure, just a desire to facilitate conversation about our faith.
