As a result of the pandemic, it has been nearly impossible to locate a kayak, let alone a kayak for a reasonable price. I ended up finding and purchasing a Perception JoyRide 10.0 from Kenco, and couldn’t be happier! It is everything that I was looking for and more. Bruce even helped me to securely fasten it onto my vehicle to ensure that there were no accidents on my drive home. Awesome store, great service!!

Im glad I found Kenco. Kenco has a great team of friendly, and fun, and a supportive sales staff who know their stuff. Watch out for Kencos unannounced specials, because theres some phenomenal savings there (they also do DO price matching ... so if you find it cheaper, Id buy it from the place that supports their products.Kencos Fishing department is AWESOME. Kencos resident guide and fly fishing expert, Randy German gives a fly tying class on Friday nights and a Fly Fishing 101 on Saturday mornings, that is absolutely jam packed with knowledge of the local history of the catskill streams (the birthplace of fly fishing), fly hatches, Entomology (study of bugs .. if ya wanna fish for local trout, you gotta know your bugs) ... I learned how to fly cast in Kencos outdoor pond, tied my first ever Catskill flies, I really had a blast. Now, heres the kicker. The classes are 15 bucks. Other trout outfitters and stores .. will charge you hundreds (sometimes, yep, not going to mention the name here ... even thousands).And again, I cant recommend it heartedly enough .. If you ever had the slightest inkling youd like to knock another thing off your bucket list and give flying fishing .. take an introductory lesson with Randy German .... His passion for the sport will win you over.

I am not a big reviewer. I tend to stay away from that. However, the service at Kenco the other day left me feeling I MUST write a line about it on the web. I am beyond happy with Kenco. Not only did they price match a sleeping pad with the same kind I found on Amazon, they were also super helpful over the phone, over email, they have a huge inventory and on top of that the kindest staff for curbside pickup. Everything was perfectly ready to be picked up and before we said goodbye they even offered to fill up all of our drinking bladders and flasks with water before we started our hike. That is excellent customer service and it was one of those very few times when you feel like your money was absolutely worth spent! Every dime of it. I would much rather pay a private business like them than any other giant like amazon. I will try to only buy from Kenco now when it comes to outdoor gear.

Went in to by a fly fishing rod on a Saturday. The employee said they only have fly fishing experts during the week. I picked out a rod and reel and they said they only sell “kits” and had no idea how to ring this up. I was about to spend $300 on fishing gear and basically was forced to leave. Only go here if you need a clothing or something basic. Horrible.

Fantastic shop with great products and even better people working there! I placed an order online for curbside pick-up, and was given super guidance on a starter kayak. Im already thrilled with it, and cant wait to explore the inside of the store when that becomes possible!

I stopped by to pickup a new set of trail maps of the Catskills ( I keep misplacing map 42 ) Hard to find a store with essential hiking and camping gear, and this place has that and more All your tried and proven gear from MSR, Marmot, Osprey, Asolo, Oboz, Sea to summit, Suncloud, Nalgene etc. as well as top shelf items from Orvis & Yeti. Fly fishing gear, knives, and an archery pro shop too. There is also an indoor archery range (will be checking that out later this week). They process fishing licences. The place reminded me of Campmor and Paragon, a well procured shop to start anyones adventure on the right foot. I know what Im looking for, so I cant speak of the staffs knowledge, but everyone I met was friendly and helpful.

I live very close to Kenco but Ive always driven 45 minutes to Walden to shop at the Thruway Sporting Goods store. It was worth driving that far because the customer service in Kenco is terrible with the exception of Dave in the camping dept. After I discovered Dave I bought a number of high price camping items and have been very satisfied. Dave is knowledgeable, informative and not pushy.However, every other dept will ignore you. I have been there as people just walk right past you avoiding eye contact. Other times they are so entwined in personal conversation that they dont notice you.Today I asked to use the restroom but was told I had to leave a key or a phone while I had the key. I didnt have a key on me so I took my phone out to give her but she said it had to go on the counter. She said it would just stay there at my own risk. Right there five feet away from the exit with people who arent paying attention. I couldnt take that risk so I politely said, a key for a phone? No thanks. When I came back 5 minutes later that woman and two male employees are standing there trash talking and making fun of me for not understanding why they need a security deposit to use their bathroom. It was bad. It went on at one register while my friend and I were checking out at the other register. They were unmistakably talking about me. Im sure they have their reasons for making you leave a security deposit for a bathroom key but what is the reason for the rude, offensive behavior?Shop where you can be treated with respect and where they value you. With the exception of Dave in the camping dept you will be ignored.I wish i could give half a star.

I tried to purchase a kayak over the course of a 4 days being told they ship them. They in fact dont. They only have one phone line and do not return calls aswell as dont update their online invatory.

Liked the store very much. Staff was extremely helpful. Gentleman gave an excellent demonstration and explanation of paddle size. If youre gearing up to go kayaking I definitely recommend you stop in. Not everything pictured was purchased there, but the kayak and paddle were.

Ordered a Thule footpack. It was a retaped box. Inside, the torn open parts bag was missing all the required bolts. They handled it well, apologetically sending me replacement parts.

Kenco has great selections and good quality. I purchased these Italian made hiking boots and love them. Basically no break-in and extremely comfortable. I like a boot that doesnt bend at the sole and these are stiff.Even got a veterans discount . Thank You !!

I bought a pair of boots and found out that they hurt my feet , And when I went to exchange them I would have had to pay half for the new pair because they said they could not resell mine that I wore for 1 day.

Love the various selections, especially love the personal client service. Randy was friendly and knowledgeable when we asked about fly fishing and our first BB gun. We even spent some time with him outside practicing our casting at their small fish pond. He was so kind he even made us a few fly fishing flies on his own time as a gift. Who does this!? Great store, great people.

An hidden gem near Kingston. We found the place on our way to camp at onteora lake (Blue Stone Wild Forest National Park) and it is now a must stop place whenever we go back there and for all our camping/fishing/outdoor needs. The staff are amazing and super friendly, always happy to help.

I love Kenco. I am probably the only woman in Ulster County who does ALL of their clothes shopping there. So glad I can go to only one store, where they have more than enough really nice clothes (really impressed with whoever does their ordering) to keep me outfitted all year. The clothes are high quality, so if you take care of them, they last a long time:less times I have to go shopping! Great place for one-stop holiday shopping as well. If you like nice things, but dont like to spend a huge portion of your life shopping, check out Kenco.

For any outdoor activity this is the destination. Outstanding friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. For fishing, hunting, archery (indoor range), small boats and clothing needs this is the place to shop. I purchased two tandem kayaks from their boat department. I couldnt be happier about this purchase. At checkout staff cut me a break on the transaction and helped me tie down the boats. If you are on your way to Woodstock Kenco is an easy stop on Route 28 W just off NYS Thruway.

This store has been in business for decades, with a great selection of outdoor clothing and gear, including kayaks and kayak-related accessories. I have shopped here for decades. The staff is always friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. If you want to support local businesses, this is definitely one of the best ones.

If you go here, you will understand why I keep going back. This place is worth the travel if you dont live close. They are extremely knowledgeable in every department they handle. Boot/shoe department is the best around. They carry the beat clothing, archery, snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, boots and more. The fairly new, indoor archery range is second to none. They allow digital or field point shooting. Dont hesitate to visit.

Gotgifts but very EXPENSIVE KENCO

Lots of knowleable staff. I bought an archery string release and spent a whole lot of time with their representative who actually had used many types. He wasn’t pushy. I’ve shopped at big box stores for archery equipment which wasn’t this way. They offer archery lessons which I’ll do after the holidays. My wife found some really cool shot glasses made of copper we bought for gifts. They had a box full of discounted headlights. We always check out their discount items in the sale room. I recently bought a great pair of hiking boots from their sale porch which are the best. We’ve bought kayaking items like spray skirts. We appreciate their support of Kingston’s yearly kayak event. There’s a lot more, but I’ll stop now.

Bought a kayak from Kenco and had it shipped. Was an absolute nightmare getting it delivered. No customer service after the sale. I was given a tracking number and it had expected arrival of 3rd business day after it was picked up. I was here that whole third day, was here that whole fourth day, was here the whole fifth day and 6 day and 7th day. No communication and it ended up getting here on the 8th day after it was shipped. 8 days to come 306 miles and Janet, the office lump, offered no help finding out what was going on - basically telling me good luck.

I stop whenever I am driving by on my way to the Dacks. Great people who know what they are doing.

Kenco is all-around awesome. Great variety of products and a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Our Boy Scout Troop just took a 2-week 90-mile high adventure backpacking trip in the New Mexico backcountry this past August and Kenco helped us greatly with the gear we needed to survive and thrive. They also support the BSA by offering a discount to Scouts and leaders who purchase their equipment there which means a lot to us. One of the few stores I ever visited that cannot be replaced by Amazon. We are customers forever!

Excellent local outdoor supplies shop. Ive bought clothing and all kinds of gear at Kenco, and theyre always friendly (and dog-friendly too). The staff is available to take time to talk with me about options, but also will leave me alone if Im browsing. When I bought my first backpacking stove but couldnt figure out how to use it, I went back and a staff member sat with me outside and showed me how to get it going.

They have such a great selection of high quality items for our outdoor times. And the staff is always there to help us find just the right fit for our needs. Weve never left disappointed. Great place to shop!!

These guys are the best in town. Love shopping local anyways, but youll not find a more dedicated, friendly and knowledgable staff than the people of Kenco. Theyre great with special orders and finding things for you if theyre not currently on hand. Their annual kayak and tent sales are great, and theyve the best selection of outdoor equipment in the area.

A well-supplied store of excellent gear for outdoor activities plus practical, attractive and high quality casual wear. Many items at excellent prices, especially with periodic sales and promotions; always have greatly reduced items in the tent and in the mark-down room. Its a store for every season; Ive bought snowshoes and snowboard boots, a bike rack and attachments, endless camping supplies and top-notch hiking boots, trail running shoes and performance underwear, floatation vests and dry bags, just to highlight some of the variety. Staff is courteous and knowledgeable. Having patronized national outdoor mail-order companies in the past, I feel very fortunate to have this independent, family-owned store nearby, as a great alternative to online shopping and chain stores.
