The Jacksonville Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum’s primary mission is the preservation and educational presentation of the writings of great authors, scientists, composers, philosophers, statesmen, sovereigns, and leaders, from all periods in world history. The Museum strives to promote education and literacy within Jacksonville, with an emphasis on the under-served neighborhoods and constituents. The Jacksonville Karpeles is one of nine Karpeles Museums around the country and the museum founders are committed to providing each of these communities free access to original manuscript exhibits. Collections and documents rotate. Sometimes local artists display their art collections as well.

One of the most Amazing Museums that very few people know about or visit. Make it worth your while and go. Family friendly; Historical.

Beautiful building! We were disappointed with the displays. It was a Disney display. Maybe 10 cases. Not much else. We erroneous thought it would be all sorts of interesting historical documents. They do rent out for all sorts of occasions. If you want an elegant wedding or a formal, stately fund raiser this would be a good place. It also has a balcony. Was a church.

A private museum, one of the older buildings in downtown Jacksonville that features unique (to 1920s) architectural details and it is FREE to the public! Collections/documents are rotated on a set schedule. Sometimes local artists display their art collections as well. The main auditorium has some resemblance to a theater, with a stage and a balcony, but main floor is an open flex space. The building can be rented by hour.

This place is like an undiscovered treasure. Been several times and often the only ones there. The exhibits are interesting and thought provoking and the building itself is interesting, even the lizard in the bathroom sink.

Its not a large museum, can probably read through everything thoroughly in 30 min, maybe 1 hour max if you like to go through museums slowly. 5 stars since its free and they have interesting stuff.

A fascinating place displaying documents from Samual B. Morse relating to his telegraph. Very much a hidden gem. It does not take long and you may have the place to yourself. You will see something very rare and likely learn a thing or two!

Gorgeous 1930s architecture immediately engages the senses when you arrive at this fascinating museum housing an impressive rotating collection (there are Karpeles museums in a handful of other cities as well) of millions of historic and important documents, manuscripts, photographs, bills of sale, design diagrams, (every type of document you can imagine!) and many historical oddities as well as an ever changing gallery of talented local artists and a permanent collection featuring artworks, sculpture, models of important ships, and Egyptian and African artifacts. The staff are knowledgeable and happy to converse and answer all your questions but also courteous enough to allow you quiet solitude as you tour the museum, something severely lacking at many larger museums and galleries. Some of the recent exhibitions Ive enjoyed featured designs and documents from the Wright Bros (and sister!), Images of Floridas First Coast, and Robyn Andrews Change and Permanence. Additionally the Halloween exhibits are always to die for! If you havent visited this downtown/Historic Springfield jewel yet, you are doing yourself a disservice.
