Stunning, unspoiled beach with beautiful dunes and views of Crane Beach and Gloucester. Arrive at Sandy Point by 7am on hot summer days for a parking spot in the tiny lot. Better yet, park outside the Parker River National Refuge and ride your bike 5-7 miles to the beach. Note the gravel road. While youre there, take the time to stop at the scenic lookout points and beach access points in the Parker River National Refuge. (Beach access in the refuge is often limited in summer due to piping plover nesting.)
Incredibly beautiful spot that is not to be missed. Trails, boardwalks, beaches. Really impressive birds everywhere great spots to view them. The beach is very long and parking is limited, so youll find your own place. Bikes are a good alternative, or a boat. Sunset here is just amazing.
My absolute favorite MA Summer attraction! The beaches are perfect & the nature reserve is stunning. So many birds (piping Plovers, gulls, grey herons, hawks, etc) and small wildlife to enjoy. Lots of waking paths and beautiful scenery. Highly recommend!
Our favorite beach as a family... But small, very limited parking. We go year round. Great for birding, tidal pools, long walks.
Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Well worth the $5, although you need a little bit of luck to get decent parking.
Great place to go camping at the beach. Two minute walk to a quiet inlet beach or three minute drive to a beach on the ocean side.
This place is the bomb diggity. One of the best beaches in Massachusetts. Maybe 30 parking spots max, fills up fast. Great unguarded beaches with soft sand and breathtaking views. Limited facilities at Sandy Point, just a simple toilet. Nice sandy walk from the parking lot to the beach, probably not the most handicap accessible.
If you want to see wavy action or a nice view of Cranes beach Sandy point has a great view
It’s $5 to enter plum island and as of this weekend the beach is only open near sandy point with limited parking. We waited for a spot around 1030 and it was worth the wait. You could also potentially bring a bike and park at a different lot and bike to the beach.
This beach is at the very tip of the Plum Island Wildlife Refuge. The refuge features great trails, scenery, and many beaches. The crowds are low as they dont allow access to the park when lots are full. Go early and grab a great spot for the day. Prices are affordable and you can buy year long passes right at the gate.
Nice beach but limited parking. Didnt honor MA parking pass. Had to pay $5 for a federal day pass. Bad politics.
A beach so natural fpund seashells bigger than my hand everywhere such a fun place I cant wait to visit it again but bring bug spray the flies are killer but worth it
Less parking spaces near the beach entrance. Might have to wait to find one. Other than that nice place. Got lot of trails and observation towers. Last part of the road is a gravel road and dusty.
My most favorite beach to go to ! Not a lot of people lots of trails and beaches with shells !!
Nice place to walk and this time of year not busy.
Since the beach access paths are closed, this was the only spot to enjoy the water on the reservation!
Wow! Simply the best kept secret of Massachusetts beaches.
The beach is amazing and huge compared to the parking lot, allowing for plenty of distancing! A bit greenhead heavy at the moment, but they only stick around for so long.
Fantastic scenery and a nice beach with a blend of sand and rocks. Limited parking, but its worth it if you can find a spot.
The beach is awesome. Its the horse flies which a pita.
Limited parking. Gravel road. Long drive compared to other beaches. Difficult beach access. But if you persevere, youll be rewarded by an almost untouched piece of beach. If youre into that kind of thing. No facilities.
I love it over here the scenery and landscape its beautiful!!!
Travel there is a little rough but worth it
Beautiful beach but very less parking
Stay away... Youll hate how beautiful it is.
Love Sandy Point Reservation. Such breathtaking views. A definite place to visit.
Thank goodness for this beautifully preserved park! Fine balance of wildlife and visitors to the park!
Its out of the way with a lovely beach. In the summer there is an attendant. There is no life guard or easy access in an emergency
It was so peaceful and tranquil and relaxing
A great place if you are lucky enough to get parking, avoid the flies and nesting plover closures.
I got married there...wonderful place!
Breath taking views. You can walk forever. So relaxing Also, a beautiful view of Crane Estates across the river
It was a wonderful place, I had a great time
One of the best beaches in the state if you can get a parking spot hear early! You will not regret it
Perfect ok not at reservation but I great photo local. Farm
Great beach
Love this place!
Not a lot of parking but a beautiful beach...
Was there for Sunrise only three people on a 5 Mile Stretch of Beach - very peaceful
Wonderful hikes and beaches lot 7 has a nice kid friendly beach and overlook deck.
Great place to check out. Watch out for the current with the young ones though. Low tides are the best times to be there
Love this place. Sorry pics werent better but I was busy beach combing. Lots of huge rocks when the tide is out. Locals cleaning up the trash to keep it clean. Birds, beach, sunsets, rocks, serene nature. Ohhh, and some purple sand...I dont know why! :)
Beautiful place! It makes you feel like your one of the lucky ones to know about this private location.
Beautiful place to visit in the winter. There is a huge expanse of beach to walk along at low tide. It can be difficult to find a place to park but try anyway. You can always double back to parking lot 6. Crane Beach is visible across the water. It is possible to wade here, but swimming too far out would be dangerous because of cross-currents. Walk around Bar Head to Emersons Rocks.
Such a fantastic beach
Beautiful, the best shell hunting on the island. Great spot to unwind
What an awesome place for learning and birding! Eagles, Osprey, hawks, owls, plovers and many more! Miles of walking trails. Biking, beautiful beaches.
In early June this beach is infested with small biting flies. They were everywhere! Definitely isnt worth the drive down Plum Island just for this beach, but if you want a scenic drive for its own sake, you wont be disappointed by the trip. The lot is gravel, and there is a nice boardwalk to the sand wit benches. But the flies are just too much.
Great secluded beach on a nature preserve. $5 per car. Bathrooms and portopotties no stores.
I come to the beach with my family almost every summer and its beautiful.
Awesome place for the family
Nice and clean beach. The only problem was limited available parking spots.
It was quiet and wasnt too crowded it was quite a relaxing evening, Ill visit again, parking area is very small so you may have to wait a while for parking.
Great place e to see rustic beach wildlife.
Other than the parking issues, always a great place to spend the day with the family. Not only do they need more parking spaces constructed, but the parking attendants need to pay more attention how people park, and need to have the authority to throw people out who dont comply
Favorite beach to visit in Massachusetts. Beautiful!
Beautiful , amazing views and also a great fishing spot
Beautiful. Id give five stars if not for the green head flies. Ouch!
Off the beaten path..well it is the beaten path but great reservation. The reservation is clean (overall) and the rangers are very curtious and helpful.
A really wonderful spot. I have been here many times, always off-seaon and I highly recommend a visit to relax and take in the view or go for a hike.
Beautiful beaches
The park entrance attendee was extremely helpful and funny.
One of my favorite places
Lovely!
Always magnificently beautiful! Best beach in the state!
Beautiful beach. Not many people around.
Really nice place to explore the beach and check out the views of the water and wildlife
Love this place! Great Ocean views and a great place to bring the kids. Parking can be tough but well worth going here anyway.
We went in January, and had the place to ourselves.
Quite possibly one of the most beautiful locations on the north shore, fishing can be good too. Great food nearby at Plum Island Provisions, and be sure to stop in at Surfland for all your fishing needs.
I shall always give the seashore 5 stars because the Ocean is my bliss ! If you love the sea as much as I do, you will love this place, too !
Nice to just walk around and enjoy the sand, surf and wildlife.
Peaceful
Beautiful beach. Need to pay admission fee or join. For $20 you get a year pass. We drove to the very end of the island at Sandy Point and collected a jar of seashells and sand for a wedding day memento. Nature in all its glory here!
Operated by DCR, this is a beautiful beach at the end of the Parker River Wildlife Refuge. Open sunrise to sunset! Cell service is limited and patchy. Its a carry in carry out park. Three composting toilets are located in the parking lot, (two in the upper, one in the lower). There is no running water, so come prepared. Alcohol is prohibited as well as dogs, fires and smoking. Rangers and environmental police patrol regularly. There is an absolutely beautiful view of Little Neck, Great Neck and Crane beach in Ipswich! In the summer, parking is difficult. There is less than 50 spots, and parking on the road is prohibited. The trade off for this is that the beach is never crowded. The ranger communicates with the gate to relay parking availability, but people usually still drive down to try their luck. If you arrive after 8 or so...especially on hot days, be prepared to turn around or wait. The road where you wait is unshaded, and the wait can potentially be hours.Seals occasionally haul out to rest here and its important to avoid harassing them and keep your distance. There are signs posted. This beach is also home to federally protected migratory shorebirds, terns and piping plovers throughout the summer. A lot of the beach is roped off for them to nest. You cant walk down the beach from Sandy Point (state property) onto Parker River National Wildlife (Federal property) during the summer because they close the entire beach for the birds nesting season. Each property manages the birds a little differently. Theres usually a Plover Warden supervising the area to prohibit trespassing.
It is beautiful there.
Good striper fishing to be done here.
Thus is one of the best beaches around. Quiet, wildlife galore, sand dollars and seaglass everywhere, and never crowded. Thats due to the very limited # of parking spaces, vet here early. Even in winter this place fills up. In the summer after 8:30 its probably too late. Stunning location.
Bad flies
Very nice beach. While low tide the beach is huge. The day we went there was very windy. Definitely worth a trip.
Beautiful tons of sand dollars
