The Iowa Field House is a treasure ofArchitecture & Continuity : what a beautiful, no fuss structure which boasts its parquet wood floors & natural light. My hope is that These functional and Amazing gifts given to posterity are Always Respected for the Future Promise to which they Speak

Great facility and enough space to exercise without feeling like your climbing up the back of another person in the gym. Excellent basketball courts for pickup games and working out.

They shouldnt use badminton courts for playing table tennis and judging by the size of the facility there should be more vending machines for refreshments. Overall its a good place for exercise and having fun while playing different sports.

Only place to play badminton but air circulation is so poor that felt suffocated after playing just 5 minutes. Would love to go there and play otherwise.

This is one of the oldest buildings in the University that was built in the early 1920s. But dont let the age fool you into thinking that its not nice, The building has been well mentioned and houses Olympic size swimming pool, a medium size gym, a couple of workout rooms, basketball court which services as a badminton and volleyball court and a couple of racquetball courts too.

Had a decent night until closing time, my friend and I were drinking water and the bouncer decided to be rude and PHYSICALLY push us out of the doors along with removing our WATER. Rudest and sexist bouncer I have encountered and felt discriminated against.

Theres plenty here to offer for everyone, student or non-student. Various floors of equipment, lots of fitness classes, martial arts... I recommend arriving here via public transport or bicycle because while there is a parking ramp, traffic on this part of town is horrendous because of the hospital nearby.

An aged but historic building in the heart of campus. I have many fond memories of watching the Iowa marching band warm up here and its also just a fun building to walk/run around in.

This is probably THE WORST gym you can have in the 21st century. It is almost 100 degree outside but they don’t have the air conditioners on. The lights above badminton courts shines like diamonds, making it difficult for people to see when they play. The door facing badminton courts are kept opening in the afternoon accompanied by the falling sun, making it even more challenging to see the birds. There is a tall net to block the basketballs and volleyballs from flying into badminton courts; nevertheless, not only the net does not stop basketballs or volleyballs, it becomes another factor that damages badminton players’ visions. By the way, they used to have yellow lanes on yellow courts. There are multiple basketball courts in the Field House and only one place to play badminton (five badminton courts). This makes sense because the number of people playing badminton is less than the number of basketball players. However, for no apparent reasons, they always close badminton courts, including the scheduled times for badminton clubs, for other events instead of closing one of the basketball courts, which is not full most of the time anyway. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the race of people who play badminton, but this is an interesting question to ask.

Badminton-wise, it may be the worse, especially in the summer. Basketball-wise, the south gym is OK, except in super hot weather.

I like to use the fitness area upstairs here. The facility is massive but its difficult to get access to the weights because theyre always being used by someone else. The facility offers a huge area of recreational activities like basketball courts and a swimming pool.

Not the best, but gets the job done.A little hard to navigate, and definitely an older building.Basketball courts are great and I hear that they set up volleyball courts sometimes. (In Jun 2016 though, there was a wrestling camp which meant no basketball for certain times). Two places I use often - weight room/ ping pong room are located on the top floor, hidden away, which is annoying. But location wise, Im glad this place is here. The Rec center for UIowa is at least another 10 min walk away (although consider that 3 flights of stairs and navigating the building can take 5 min haha).
