The Screening Room is an insult to meaningful movies and I wouldnt pay half price for that back alley experience.Very rude to move The Lighthouse to such a lacking venue after a start at the new facility.

Really cool vibe for an independent theater. Extremely friendly cast. Great choice of films that are changing weekly. Very cool vibe inside of theaters. Positive movie experience as it’s filled with patrons who don’t use their phones or talk during shows. Honestly, the perfect movie experience. Though provoking movie in a positive and friendly environment with a delicious drink and snack.

The staff here is great! They show great indy films and other movies. This is a great place to grab a beer or glass of wine and watch a movie. Their beer selection is small, but they always have great options on tap. I always look forward to watching movies here. It is a small and intimate theater with great sound. You should check out whats showing this week. Highly recommended.

We wanted to see a documentary that just came out and no other theatres in the area were showing it, except one little obscure place was showing the movie. This was definitely a different viewing experience. We were led to a room with conference seats and no incline, but it was a very nice experience. Before the movie, an announcer walked out and told about their theatre. They support the gay community (and straight too obviously) and they accept donations and offer memberships. The main thing I noticed was the difference in the audience - they were polite and quite. Nobody checked their phone or talked during the show. There was laughter at the appropriate times, so there was still the experience of watching a movie with a group. The only negative thing is that the seats are very small and too close together, so if you are a very large person, this theatre may not be for you. If you are tired of mindless movies with no point, and rude children in the isles, you will like this theatre. It seems like the theatre held around 45 people in the room where we viewed. I will certainly go back. Finally, a theatre that shows documentaries!

Were extremely lucky to have a place in town with movie selections this good. A lot of bigger cities dont have a theater this good. Beer and popcorn are great and the staff is always friendly. The rooftop patio is a well kept secret and you can grab a coffee or beer and go up there anytime you like.

I love the quaint atmosphere at FilmScene! They have really fun and nice staff, good prices, and a great beer selection. I like that the theaters are intimate and that they screen more independent films. The location is great too. Perfect if you want to grab dinner before a screening or drinks afterward at many surrounding restaurants and bars.

Wish they would do more public outreach. I lived in Iowa City for 2 years and walked by this place frequently but never noticed it until I saw online that the documentary Tickling Giants was being played here. Theater was acceptable, but kept a bit on the cold side when I went during the summer.

This arthouse movie theater is a great place to see independent and classic films. This theater is operated as a nonprofit and as such participants in many community events and partnerships. They do offer a full snake bar including candy, popcorn, coffee, wine, and local Iowa beer on tap. Its great central location right on the Ped Mall lends itself well to shopping first than dinner and a movie. Its easy to park less than a block away at either the parking ramp attached to Old Capitol Town Center or the Dubuque Street Garge, plus the first hour of parking is free in either ramp and just $1 per hour after. Metered street parking is also free after 6 in downtown Iowa City.

What a legit spot this be! We came over on a Saturday morning for the $5 kiddo movie - Kung Fu Panda was playing! Papa does have a soft spot for animals doing Kung Fu!This place is a great little gem on the ped mall! Showing independent films and some mainstream ones, and doing family shows on Thursday and Saturdays to boot.Standard movie fare, but with the addition of beer and wine - Winning! Goodish selection and certainly better than anywhere else this side of Chicago methinks.Rumor has it a rooftop patio exists as well - this must be explored and can only make that which is awesome, mas awesome! Worth checking out whatever your film tastes, because after all, theyve got beer!
