The Sand Castle Inn is very quaint. We stayed in an upstairs room, so that made the view really beautiful. The staff was very nice and helpful. We happened to be there during a heat wave, so having no AC was not ideal. We made the best of it though and enjoyed walking to the beach and the pier.
This place is really nice. Staff are ok. I love the big tile floors and the tables and chairs outside. Mainly your close to the beach watching people go by. We had room 213 which was on the second story in the back with ocean views. Room was nice it had a couch, fridge, microwave. I wanted to stay an extra night but they get booked up quick so make a reservation early on. The only thing I didnt like was I had to pay extra for parking and online the price was 167.00 which they said would honor but they charged me 199.00. So book online otherwise they upcharge you. Sand was everywhere but thats what happens when youre at the beach. Overall it was nice.
Spent three nights here with my family. Super convenient location. Walked to restaurants and beach every day. The staff was very helpful, the rooms were very clean, and parked right in front of our door. I will definitely return to this hotel!
Absolutely loved this motel. Everything including the beach, pier, restaurants, bar, store and bait shop all within walking distance. The staff was awesome! In fact we enjoyed our stay so much we have booked our anniversary getaway for here. We are a family of four so the apartment was perfect for us with a queen bed, futon, and roll away bed. Bed was super comfy. Overall everything was perfect.... Thank you Sand Castle staff for making our stay welcoming. See you soon.

We had an amazing stay at Sand Castle Inn! The room was beautifully decorated and clean. The beds were so soft and comfortable, it was the best sleep I got in a long time. Dottie and Keno and the cleaning lady (didnt get her name) were so friendly and welcoming and made us feel like we were family. Not to mention we had a great view from our room. We will be staying here any time we come back to Imperial Beach. Thank you Sand Castle Inn staff!!!
This a great place to stay if you want to just be at the beach! Unfortunately there is construction going on right behind the hotel- so sleeping past 7:00 am was not an option.

I really liked the view. Was unaware you cannot go in the water at the beach due to sewer contamination, would be nice if they made you aware of this while making reservations. The room was pretty dirty upon arrival. Underneath the bathroom stand didnt look like it had ever been cleaned. Also, we have a family of 7 people, which they were aware, and they would only give us 3 towels. No AC, just dirty old fans covered in dust. The only thing that was good was the view of the beach and comfy beds.

Quaint hotel with great beach access. Unfortunately the water is contaminated so you cant go in. Rooms are nice and simple but it would be nice to have an air conditioning unit in the rooms so you can drown out the street noises. If you are a light sleeper, dont expect a great nights sleep.
My family and I stayed here over the weekend. It is right across the street from the beach and you can feel the ocean wind in your room! It was a beautiful sight. The room was clean but just know, theres no AC as this is southern Calirfornia! The staff was extremely respectful and very military friendly as well. We brought our small dog with and it was no problem with anybody! If we ever stay in the local area I would for sure book this place again!
This was a fine little inn for the price. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room we had was clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. It strikes me as an older property, but they have clearly worked to maintain the rooms looking good. Walk across the street to the beach. I would stay here again.Dont hold it against the Sand Castle Inn that I posted the picture of the car on its side. There was a bizarre, freak accident that just happened to occur right in front of the hotel the last night of our stay. Dont get the wrong idea, it is really a very nice friendly stretch of Seacoast road there where people stop for pedestrians, and we felt very safe. But the accident was so weird, I just had to post it.
Wow, this place is hidden gem! The beach is literally across the street, parking right in front, restaurants within walking distance, couldnt ask for a better place to stay at! Thanks to the front desk clerk Jose who was super efficient and friendly, great customer service! The room was spotless, very clean and comfortable. I will definitely be booking again next time in the mood for a little beach getaway. 10 out of 10
First things first. My small family stayed here as a last minute check in! The staff are very nice. The location is very beautiful. The rooms are nice. We stayed here for some rest. Just one night! It is currently 1225am am and we are listening to #214 fight! The cops are now here and my small children ages 3 and 9 months have yet to sleep as the upstairs people (#214) have yet to work out their fighting! Now.....i know some people get loud and things happen.....but not having staff on site to help deal with the loud neighbors is not a nice thing to be dealing with! So unfortunatly we can not recommend staying on a bottom floor! Without onsite management i HAVE to give this 1 star for no onsite management to help deal with this.
So this place would have gotten 5 stars it was CLEAN and the staff was friendly. For this price you cannot beat it especially with our suite having 3 huge beds and a kitchen. The issue we had is we were locked out of our room when the door shut with my phone inside with the code to our door. We tried for hours to get someone to resend it. We tried to get help and no one was onsite or answered their phone. We tried for hours them kept trying the codes until we could get in.

They overcharged me. Said I drank a coke and a water and charged me 9 additional dollars. There was only one diet coke when we got in the room and I bought my daughter the same brand water bottle at the store and they assumed it was theres when theres is in the freezer.

Very nice little motel just across the street from the ocean. Rooms are renovated and decorated with great taste. You can park right in front of your room for free and walk to the restaurant near by - many options for all budgets. The hotel has laundry machines, I didn’t ask if we can use. People were smoking in front of there room - if it’s something you don’t like due to the proximity you need to know that. Very little insolation to sound between rooms is another details to plan with.

They property is very clean and across the street from the beach. The price is unbelievable and the staff were very helpful even with a booking mistake. They gift free appetizers to local restaurants and have a lovely courtyard you can relax and grill in if you choose. Ill definitely be back.

The room was extremely small in the corner with no view. the bathroom window does not lock, I had additional charges added, parking spaces are for compact cars. I still had to drive to get to the beach with my pet.The bed was wonderful!

Really loved this place, only gave it 4 stars because they charge you to park on the premises otherwise you have to park on the street, and my coffee maker was not working. The pace is right across the street from the beach, I thought it was going to be on the beach :( The rooms are small but it was fine for me, for one or 2 people, great price, great location, peaceful, would go again!

Pros: It is great to cross the street and you are right on the beach. The room was nice and clean. Cons: Their soaps are pretty skimpy. The walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbors conversations.... Im sure our neighbors heard us as well. Otherwise a nice place to stay.
Lights went out once and tv stopped working twice. We could hear everything in the other room. Other than that it was nice to be 5 minute walk from the beach.

The only thing that the toilet was running water like crazy and the noice we told them at the front desk,she said that she already called to come and fix it.Overall it was very quite cozy and nice.

I was upset that there were no sand castles but the beach is right there and there were some great sand castles and sculptures so thank goodness. Staff was nice and attentive if that is important to you.

Dot was so friendly and happy and knowledgable of the area. We came upon this place passing through. So glad we did. New renovations. Great bed & bedding. Definitely stay there again. Really comfortable location. Walked to dinner & breakfast, greeted by friendly locals.
This place gets 4 stars because of the staff. They were very nice and attentive. Without them, Id give it 3 stars. I was in town for the half ironman race and they left me a nice note with some snacks upon check in. Very thoughtful. As far as I can tell, it is under new management as of July 2018.I booked a single queen bed room. There was a mini fridge and microwave. The fridge didnt open well (door drug on the ground). I didnt try the microwave, but it looked old. The bathroom and closet were both relatively small. Not large enough to put a pack and play in if you have little children.The floor was pretty dirty. Our feet would be black after walking around in the room. Also, upon arrival, the sink seemed to back up very easily. Management fixed it the next day when we let them know and it was fine after.The parking lot is small, but you can almost park directly in front of your room, making loading and unloading easy. Also, there is a park right across the street, great for kids, and the beach is right past the park.
So ready to go back. We dont want to miss the opportunity to stay there again. Kids are asking me to book for next year. Thank you Sandcastle Inn
Hidden gem in a great safe location. Nothing fancy here but very comfortable with a nostalgic feel. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. My room (103) was in front near the office and I loved it. Some of my co travelers had a large room in the back which has a lovely ocean view. Definitely coming back.

Clean place and close to the beach
This hotel is a quaint little place...the only reason I give it a 3 out of 5 is there is no air conditioning...and so it is suggested that you leave your windows open...which isnt bad until the employees stand outside your room smoking...every hour....so I would have to close my window when they were smoking...then wait for the air to clear to open my windows again...which is very annoying.. and just plain rude...and being I am a non smoker and the hotel room was a non smoking room..an am allergic to cigarette smoke...I got a rip roaring headache...nice way to spend time on a vacation
Stayed at the Sand Castle for 6 days . Its a lovely hotel with wonderful helpful friendly staff. The hotel is right across from the beach which had a beautiful sunset and we even saw dolphons swimming by as the sunset on two nights . I would definitely stay here again if I ever make it back it back to San Diego . There was also lots of sand dollars and shells on the beach every morning and evening. Great food in the area restaurants. And only a few miles from Tejuana Mexico which we did go over to check it out . I highly reccomend this hotelBeautiful breeze coming from the ocean every night .
Wish it was a lil cleaner on my sheets but we were in and out only needing 5hrs stay to rest and drive on

This was an amazing stay. We rented the garden apartment and it was literally a 1 bedroom apartment. With a full kitchen. Stove, fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee pot. Even dishes and silverware. The apt was so clean. Saltillo tiles, new furniture, clean rugs, and a flat screen TV. The bathroom was completely updated. You can tell they had done a re-bath remodel to the tub and it works. There is no AC but honestly you dont need it. Its so cool in there. They have an extra large fan in the closet for you to use and with the ceiling fans it stayed comfortable in the room. The bed was amazing. A 12 inch memory foam mattress and nice thick soft pillows. The location of the property is amazing. Steps from the beach. The parking is tight. And we did have to pay $10 a night for the space. Which I thought was weird. Ive never had to pay for parking at a hotel before. But honestly it was better than paying for a more expensive resort fee. The staff is very friendly and nice. It is a pet friendly place. Its a $50 one time fee. I would absolutely recommend this property. Its right in the middle of Imperial beach right by the peir with lots of restaurants, shops, and little markets within walking distance.

My husband and I have stayed here throughout the years and LOVE the location--you really cant beat the location. The ocean view suites are the best choice, but now that they have renovated all of their rooms, even the non-view rooms are really nice. This hotel has a special place in our hearts and we will definitely continue staying here!!!
Stayed here for 4 nights in September 2012. It was brilliant. Very friendly, helpful staff. Very comfortable room. Perfect location, beach just over the road, cafes, restaurants, shops all nearby. San Diego is a bus (+ optional ferry) ride away...but Imperial Beach is just so chilled youll probably just want to stay there.

We enjoyed the privacy of the 1 bedroom apartment, and the staff was very helpful and willing with a little time for check out, and check in. The beach was just across the street, yet unable to be in the water due to pollution, waste from Mexico.Not the hotels responsibility, and we had no problems with our stay there.

Stayed here for a few nights. The place is pretty basic, just a few old rooms. There is no air conditioning. The room was HOT. Opening windows helps a bit, but not enough.We actually wound up in two rooms, the fold out couch in one did not work, so they gave us another room for those other people for the night and replaced the couch the next day. Operator was nice and helpful.
This place was horrible. The pull out beds were all broken . The TV was old couldnt see anything on it . We had r kid with us . So we told the lady in the front office she told us that we have to wait until the next day to switch us rooms so we waited . The next day she switches us rooms . The room was OK so we thought . Later that night we went back to the room to go to sleep the fans sound like they were going to fall off . In the kitchen smelled like it was leaking gas it was so bad it was giving all of us a headache . We stood there for seven days . It was really bad We would never stay here again . For $1620 Im sure we could find something better . Only thing I can say good that it was right across the street from the beach

Friendly, mostly clean, not very forthcoming service. The beach is very close by but unfortunately the ocean is contaminated with sewage most of the year due to run off from the Tijuana river.
