This experience was really fun. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable yet very informative. This is a great activity for anyone who just wants a unique night out or to get an intro course in pottery.

Learning how to throw clay was a bucket list item and now its crossed off! A fun time and you will be proud of what you create, even if it looks wierd! I would definitely go back and give it another shot.

Just an amazing experience from start to finish! My fiance and I went to fulfill one of her childhood dreams of learning how to make pottery. It was fun and educational and we had a blast with the other people in the class too. Lots of laughs over wobbly pottery. It really makes you appreciate the high level of skill that the teacher possesses and the amazing art hes able to create. We will definitely go back!

I received several one-on-one lessons from Jeff at Art Wheel a few summers ago. I had never sculpted before and had no idea what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by just about every aspect of the experience. The studio is a very relaxed environment, well lit and with the proper tools to make my vision come to life.I recommend spending some time considering what you want to sculpt, make sure its something meaningful and interesting to you, as you will be spending lots of time with it. I sculpted Gollum from the Hobbit. I think the design I came up with posed a lot of difficulties, especially for a novice student. However, clay is a very forgiving medium. Make sure youre willing to bring your patience with you. Be willing to redo something if it doesnt look right.Jeff is a great teacher and artist. He gave me advice about composition and design. He taught me how to use all the tools and how to get the clay to obey me. Hes incredibly pleasant to work with and when things are going well he allows students to take responsibility for their own work. The whole process was fascinating from start to finish. Its an amazing art form and is the most relaxing activity Ive ever taken part in, one of my favorite things Ive ever done. If I ever wanted to sculpt a statue like this again, Im confident that I now have the skills to do it on my own. However, Art Wheel was so pleasant that Id love to return to pursue more ambitious projects, Im sure theres much more I could learn. I look forward to working with Art Wheel again in the future and I give them my highest recommendation.

Great option for date night. Lots of fun! Its more difficult than it looks, but the hands on training allowed me to create my little masterpiece!

The instructor is a nice person but not a teacher. At all. I felt uncomfortable, did not understand a thing (the big part of it was me as a completely unskilled, however very much encouraged to learn, newbie). When I pointed it out, and asked for a help, that had no effect at all. After instructors explanations in emptiness, no one out of group of four succeeded in doing something distinctly reminding a cup or a bowl by themselves. Instructor just came and did a pottery for himself.Hence, that was a smart way of selling HIS pottery for $75. With groupon. No one acquired any skill, it was not a fun experience. Moreover, no one wants to pay that much for pottery that sells $2 at Walmart.I give 2 stars just for tea that was really tasty and helpful while you are outdoors for 2 hours (even in CA).

Art Wheel is a great environment to learn a new craft wheather you want to learn to through on the wheel or hand building. Youre only limited by your imagination. Jeff is very knowledgeable and patient with his students. Hes also a great artist which you can see his works of art in his studio. The location is great, right off of the beach with good eateries close by. You wont be disappointed!

Outdoor studio right by the beach. Put your hands in the clay and smell the salty air! Jeff will give you guidance if you need it, space for solo work if you want it. Spend some time here, your soul will thank you!

Her name is Haylee Donohue. She asked for lessons with clay for her birthday. She really wanted to use the wheel to throw pots.The teacher, Jeff is an accomplished clay teacher here in Imperial Beach. I bought her a months worth of lessons with him. He was a good teacher and showed her how to work with clay by hand, then begin throwing pots on a wheel which was her original desire. He was patient and understanding. Forgiving when she made mistakes . She completed and glazed a number of pots and a cup during her month with Jeff.We recommend him!

The location is only a hop skip and a jump from the beach in a relaxed tropical setting with excellent instruction from Jeff and mellow vibe, I made a really cool coffee mug, breakfast bowl and artistic serving dish that my friends admire. Im looking forward to more fun creations like a teapot and matching cups in the near future. If youre interested in learning and or expanding your ceramic talents then Art Wheel is the place to go.

Fun pottery class, Great date with the Wife!!

Came here for a special Yoga and Pottery shindig and had a blast! An hour of yoga on the balcony (11am = perfect timing, when the sun is still kinda low) and 2 hrs of playing with clay. Jeff was an outstanding teacher, tending to all 16 of us as we all had questions, with a smile and plenty of encouraging words. This would be a great place to work solo or with friends, as an amateur or a seasoned pro! Great for kids too!

My husband and I got a Groupon for a two hour introductory throw on the wheel class. It was very fun! He had experience in high school and it was my first time. The instructor was pretty easy going and allowed us to do our own thing but also offered help when asked. Would recommend overall, great date night idea!

I love this place! Super chill vibe and the instructor, Jeff, plays THE BEST music. I needed a place to explore my creativity with clay and the ocean breeze + easy going environment make it the perfect place to do so. Highly recommended!

Very fun!! Small, intimate group and very informative. A lot harder than I thought, but we had a great teacher who coached us every step of the way!

Great place to play with clay! The instructor is very knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. I enjoyed the class very much.

Very disappointed! Jeff has zero desire to teach his students, he does not interact with them and does not help them learn. If you ask for assistance, he will do all the work himself and youll just get to watch him and be frustrated. He spent 2 mins with me and my husband, there was another couple who were treated the same but he almost spent all of his time with the two girls who i think paid the full price to deserve his special treat.

We loved it! Great experience. Will attend another class soon.
