Met up with my work team for a social distancing gathering. It was a nice place with plenty of room and picnic tables. Removed from the highway noises and well kept. A short distance from 110 and Walt Whitman mall.. There is also a horse training center along the same road. There is a public bathroom and dog park. I would recommend this park.

Clean public restroom, dog run, stables. We hiked with our dogs, on leash , on the gorgeous, well maintained trails. Everyone we encountered was polite and friendly & socially distancing.

Interesting place. I parked where the dog park is and there was a horse barn next to it. I had no idea where to find the trail heads. I used my Google maps to help get around everywhere. The trails were mostly good. There were some wet and muddy spots but overall decent footing. Some spots had bad footing. I would say its a good walking trail and I was running it. I wish they did different colored loops around the trails. There were a lot of ways to go and I had to keep stopping to make sure I wasnt going to get lost. If I could just follow a loop that would have been easier.

Beautiful and serene woods. I wish the trails were marked or color coded, the loops were confusing for a first timer. Will check out the dog run next time.

Decent park with manicured paths for you to walkSereneDog parkTrails are wide enough for passers byOnly issue are that trails are not well marked and mini trails intersect frequently so you keep returning to the loop

Its truly one of the most preserved places on Long island at the West most end of Suffolk county. It reminds me how all of Long island used to be very rural theres even deer that roam free in the neighborhood.

This place is awesome! Im from out of town and was looking for a good place to excercise my standard poodle. The people were very nice and the other dogs were very well behaved. We went during the week in the morning, there were about a dozen or so other dogs. There is a charge during the weekends and holidays at peak season memorial day to labor day. But not during the week day. There is a water fountain, and a small wooded area.I have to say Im very impressed.

Small park. It was pretty clean. Nice little forest. It has the highest point on L.I. (401ft). Would be 5 if the major pot holes were fixed. Trail map and park are little confusing the first but its easy to figure out. Dog park is awesome! They have water, toys, and poop bags. Picnic area is nice too

Easy to see right off of Sweet Hollow Road servicing Melville and the adjoining areas of Suffolk County. Plenty of parking and a wheelchair accessible entrance. Great for families. Fenced in areas all around the park. Highly recommended. Public Restrooms. Nice staff. We will definitely be going back.

Great place my dog loves it. Huge open area with tons of room to run and all fenced in. The only down side is the mass mud so bring boots. Mainly the four stars is because i got bit by someone elses dog badly and had to go to hospital from trying to help prevent a dog fight as i was the only one near and the dogs owner was yelling for help. If your dog cannot take a little wrestling match with another large dog and throws a temper tantrum and bites he will get bit back so train your dogs and do not bring them if they cannot play nice.

Parked at dog run on sweethollow rd and hiked perimeter loop up to janes hill. Blue markers a little difficult to see. Trail blocked by fencing on way back by equestrian center. Bathrooms at parking lot locked on a Saturday afternoon. Most of trail shared by horses making it difficult walking. Loose sandy soil and poop piles.

Dog ParkVisited recently to check out the Dog Park for my Pitty - area is huge - ridiculously huge - be sure to bring your own bags to clean up after your friend - could use more seating and watering spots but overall a nice park... Be sure to have your dog on anti-flea & tick though - and check yourself thoroughly before you leave and when you get home - the surrounding area is dense foliage and trees and at high risk for these as well as mosquitoes... Be great if they had restrooms and fresh water for humans...

I loved West Hills Park, I worked there and was the Best experience in a job I ever had. Joe was my boss at the time. I loved everyone I worked there with, at that Park! They were the Best years of my life, best job, Best boss-Joe....I think retired now.... Loved all the guys in that Park....Great Park to hike... Cant say more, only wish Smithpoint park never got rid of me, my goal was to hopefully get more permanent work other than 3 plus year seasonal graduating full time to Smithpoint park.Thats a whole different ball game Park---- ughhhhhhhh.... Thank you Joe for having me and allowing me to work the 3 years in that beautiful Park and trusting me to do the great work that I did for the patrons at Sweet Hallow Hall.Sad thing, later: some monster burned the BEAUTIFUL building down. West Hills Park was the greatest Park to work for and awesome people that I had the Great pleasure of working with.Again, thank you Joe for allowing me to work there from 2002-2005 at the Best Park in Suffolk County!!!!!! ️️️️️️

Hmph. One of the entrances is closed. We used to enter the path from near the dog park, by the playground. There is some parking there. But we went this past weekend (June 2018) and its closed. Im guessing they havent had the resources to clean up downed trees. The dog parks are still open, lots of ppl w dogs.

Sa
Review №56

Wish I could recommend this park but unfortunately I cant for now. The wooded hiking is not large to begin with, but recently they put a fence going through the wooded area, making half of it unable to access, so you have to turn around halfway through and go back to your car. They said this was because of illegal dumping and they wont take the fence down for over a year.

I was expecting more. This is a really small hiking trail, leading around the highest point on Long Island. But dont get excited, its the highest in terms of above sea level. Its not a high point in relation to whats around it. That can be a visual let down. Theres basically a rock and - as others have noted - a huge water tower for a view. But its much better maintained and marked than nearby Muttontown Preserve and this seems to be part of an (official? unofficial?) greenway linking a bunch of parks from midway in the island to the north shore. For that, way to go Suffolk County. Good on ya.And there are a few benches and picnic tables. We came in from the back way so we wouldnt have to pay for parking (were cheapos) and it was a decent way to spend a few hours on a weekend afternoon.

Easy to get to. many diverse trails. they have picnicking, horseback riding,a dog park and a small childrens playground. you can hike on either side of sweet hollow rd. the side opposite the main entrance will lead you too mount misery and all its spooky history. i have had my own encounters. the opposite side leads you to jaynes hill ( 401 ft above sea level) once considered the highest point on the island. there is also some nice scenic views. walt whitman wrote about this area in his poems. i spend alot of my free time here. i think you will enjoy it
