Decent place. Half the time you get an impression that staff doesnt really know what theyre doing. Turning volume up and down. System is pretty weak. Bartenders could be Way more attentive. DJ booth looks like a barn. Batgrooms need a complete overhaul. Gets busy and a good place to kick it with friends.

Terrible place with poor management. I had a light fall on my leg ( about 20 ft high) and reported it to management and no action was taken.It could have been a potentially fatal situation as the light missed my head while it landed on my leg. I reported the incident to management and no action was taken. They blamed it on the people dancing on the stairs while there is no sign preventing people from doing so, therefore exopsing the customers below to potentially fatal situations. Management ( also acting as bouncers) brushed off the situation as resolved as if nothing happened while no further precaution measures were taken to resolve the safety issues.

These bouncers have no communication skills whatsoever. They let a group of 10 people in before us (some of them being my friends) and then when the line got to the three of us, the bouncer said, “we don’t usually do this but we have to charge the guys $10 cash only to get in due to high volume” as if they didn’t just let 10 people in without paying right before that. Did he think I wouldn’t notice him charging us and not them? Save your money for a place with more consistency and clear communication. Save your $10 for a place that’s actually worth a cover charge, maybe one that gives you a free drink. Just not some place that charges people randomly because they feel like it.

I dont know why there are people standing in line to get in, It looks nice enough but thats about it. Nothing worse than being ignored by arrogant bartenders who are more interested in looking at their phones. It sucked.

Came on a Saturday night because some friends wanted to try it out but I should have read the reviews before coming. The bouncers do hustle you to ‘skip’ the line when it’s busy which wasn’t a surprise. The drinks were mediocre but the music was good. While we were sitting down in an area we got kicked out bc it had been rented and they were super rude about it. We came around 10 left to bar hop and came back around 12 but all of a sudden our attire wasn’t appropriate enough so we would have to pay extra to get in? Save your money and go across the street.

The drinks are EXPENSIVE!! I wouldn’t be complaining too much of the price if the drinks were good, but I litterally paid $12 for a full cup of water, a dash of juice and a pinch of alcohol $20 for 2 shots. Music sucks. The only cool think about this place was the looks of the place. Never coming here again

Music and atmosphere was great, but the bartenders are very were slow and if you weren’t one of their “regulars” you were over looked, and they only had one of their systems that took card, assuming that usually doesn’t happen. Overall this wouldn’t be my first choice in bars to go to while in Houston.

I was there on Saturday 04/25/2015 with my wife. People like the ones running this place have no sense of gratitude towards their customers. In fact are way biased and arrogant. If I had read the reviews I would never be here to spoil my evening.At first we were able to go in without an entry fee. But, after a while I only asked the guy at the door Hey what is it to go upstairs?. He stamped us without saying anything. Then he tapped the other gay dude with cheek piercing. He turned around and said 20 bucks. I didnt mind paying the cover. But, I didnt like his attitude. I only said once to reason that why did they stamp me without answering my question. Then once bouncer gets loud. I said he shouldnt be rude to customers. Thats it. The previous guy snatched my drink from my hand and spilled. All this happened in 10 seconds. The policeman was bribed good to just stand there like dummy.Not a safe place.

They charged me 38$ for 4 beers. At first, I thought they were joking about the price. Finally, I ended up paying the requested amount and rounded up to 40$.2 days later I checked my credit card and they charged me 90$!So make sure to pay cash or even better keep out.

I have always had a great time here. If you are friendly to the people working, they will be friendly right back. Go to the very top level. It has a great ambiance and its way less crowded. Also, the door guys are cute... which is always a plus!

Awesome place. Dave and the rest of the crew do a great job to make sure we all feel welcome. Contrary to the other posts, Ive brought many people here of all colors and there have been no issues. They are NOT racist.

Neil accommodated me well. Can we say he is the Hugh Hefner of his spot with all those women. Have to check this spot out and just have a good time. Dress to impress or expect not to come in.

So disgusted at this place . The restrooms are terrible. The restrooms had mold , rusting , and leakage coming from the sewer. $40 hookah and the hookah was not working properly .

Bouncers tried to hustle me for $20 because I had on Birkenstocks... after reading the reviews and news on their discrimination lawsuit, can’t say I’m surprised. Go spend money elsewhere

So we were in line and I came with a group of about 10 people, everyone had a Texas license but me. I was at the end of the line and I showed my passport and suddenly the guy remembered there was a cover for men... uhh ok I guess that could happen.. even though the bar was almost empty but ok. (later 3 people in our group mentioned that they saw about 7 guys go by without being charged by the bouncer while we were talking to the other bouncer) Anyways, we didnt all have cash so we asked if we could use the ATM, and the bouncer said its out of service. A friend paid for all of us and we finally got inside, we wanted to go to the rooftop and found out that we needed to pay another 10 per person!!Later at the top one of the bar tenders to double charge us for drinks when one of my friends bought a round for 5 and he tried to charge two of us who were in the back. When we told him he said oh I thought you guys didnt know each other and I asked him why, in that case, he had charged my friend 5 drinks and only given him 5??Overall deplorable service, trash of bouncers, ripoff of a place. Dont waste your money here. (Ive attached a photo of the bouncers who are the most racist, at the time of the picture they had just thrown out a guy with what we thought was extremely excessive force)

Love the rooftop but this place has slowed down a little bit. Clean bar with lots of room.Update: Was here for Halloween and it was packed. They were playing great music on each floor. Crowd was giving good vibes.The bottom floor near the bar had about 1 of water due to plumbing problems. Hope they get tbis fixed and not bandaided.

Had a great time for my friends birthday, until the end of the night. Bartender lost my card, then proceeded to toss it on the other side, and had the bouncer come out and toss it in the middle of the street after one came up behind me attempted to choke me out. Other than this altercation everything was great, just wish that the bouncers did not have to walk around like they have to prove themselves for some unknown reason.

If I could give this place zero stars, that’s what I would do . I went here tonight on St patty’s Day for a good time . The bouncer stamps “trump” on my hand on my way in. I ask him about it and he tells me the manager did it as a “joke.” I left 10 mins later because of it. I think it’s incredibly inappropriate for a business to mix their place of establishment with politics. Regardless if a person supports trump or not and ESPECIALLY a place such as this with only 2 stars as a rating . You are in no position to be so offputting to your patrons coming in here to spend money ! I will go across the street and spend my money there instead.

I dont ever write reviews, but in light of all the news about this place I would like to write one. About two years ago I went with a group of girls to this establishment, while all girls were going in for free one of them got told by the bouncer you are not cute enough to not pay cover. We obviously left. This was not racial discrimination, but it is to show the general attitude of the place.

I dont really get this bar. One would think because of the whole racial fiasco they had theyd let more people in, but it is one of the only, if not THE only bar in midtown that charges cover to get in the door. They have a massive 3 floor establishment with outdoor rooftop patio, second floor club vibe and first floor bar with outdoor area yet most of the time it remains empty even during peak weekend hours. Sometimes when its looking really empty theyll let guys in for free or if you have sexy looking girl(s) with you. The most outrageous thing is theyll charge you to get in but also theyll charge you again if you want to go upstairs to the vip area. Terrible place Id just avoid it and hopefully it closes down soon and goes to some better management.

Three levels with different vibes. Good music, cool atmosphere. Mostly 20-30 somethings. I found it to be a neatly laid out and entertaining bar. Gets very busy on weekends.

Bartender kicked me out because I ordered two waters after a couple round of shots. Im Hispanic and it wasnt the first time me or my friends were discriminated against. Good place and good amount of people at club but most of the staff is racist. Never going back.

First and foremost the place looks already looks sh!tting as hell by the drivers in the area on a Saturday night. We’re in line for 35-45 minutes the bouncer bunch of people before me and my significant other and to top off the bouncer was getting tips on the side before we’re we was going entered the place. Rude customer service , terrible drinks , Dj was okay , Bad odor , Radical profiling as well.

I hate this place so I am more than happy to express my disdain for this place. When I read the most recent story about this bars business conduct, I was infuriated. Its no secret that this place has been unprofessional and downright disgusting with their practices for a while. I am glad it is finally coming to light. The bouncers and officers have always seemed like complete jerks. They have never been nice and I have witnessed many people being turned away from this establishment for no real reason besides at the whim of the door guys. I can never tell if Im going to be charged a cover to go in or not. Gaslamp tries WAY too hard to be cooler than it is. Drinks, music, service, crowd are all sub-par. You are much better off frequenting the less cool places in midtown. Dont waste your time in a place that is completely racist and trying too hard. Its a shame because I actually like the patio area. Hope someone else takes over their lease and replaces it with a business we can be proud to have in Houston. Houston is a city that accepts and applauds diversity and their businesses should reflect just that.

This place still sucks. It is the old gaslamp with a new name but the same crappy policies. They have different levels, but just to get in its $10 per person, and $10 for each level additional level? NEVER HEARD of such BS. Anyways, I still paid the $10 to get in, and its nothing more than a bar, with a few tables, and a patio area. Why am I paying for something that can be had any almost any of the other clubs in midtown WITHOUT a cover?

Been there four times and every time the bouncer in the front would only charge me, and I know its straight up because Im black. My white friends thought I was being overly sensitive, so I told them to go in first and they didnt get charged, then my other friend and I went in right after ( he was black too) and he charged us $20 for no reason. I literally always almost get into a fight with that scrub, because he immediately gets loud when I calmly ask why Im paying when other people dont have to pay. But he feels like a badass I guess because there is usually two cops ( who dont care about the discrimination) right behind him.I usually dont even write reviews, specially negative ones, about places but that scrub or maybe even the whole managements got to go.

Okay....this place received very bad press for racism. Ive gone here before to a packed house and was charged $10 to enter. But on a Friday at 10pm, 3 of us walked in. A single group of 7 white people were standing around the bar. They saw us, and a mate cheerily proclaimed other people came in, we can leave now...close tab (no racism, he just felt the obligated need to entertain a single bartender had expired) anyhoo, so to the bar we go. bartender had the audacity to charge full price drinks ($9 shots, $8 angry orchard). I reminded him that we 3 were the only people in the bar. He insisted that I pay for the drinks immediately, though we are sitting at bar. I def recall other party closing tab after we walked in....Thus-and-such they were not rudely told to pay for drinks immediately, like I was. I gave bartender the evil eye. He noticed my displeasure but swore he was not trying to be rude. We finished our shots and I left my half drank cider beer on the bar and exited, without tipping. Shant be returning to that sort of experience.

We noticed a difference in tab when we purchased 4 beers on the second floor and the 1st floor. We started downstairs 4 beers at $22 then we went upstairs and also paid $22 for the same 4 beers then ended the night on the first floor about an hour before they closed and we got charged $26 for 4 beers. I guess the bartenders feel slick over charging people when they think they’re already “drunk”. My husband caught on and asked her why she charged more and she had nothing to say but he went ahead and asked if she charged her self the tip upfront. She said yes and when he told her she shouldn’t take advantage of people just because she thinks they might be drunk she still had nothing to say. (& no no one in our circle was drunk) we hung out on the second floor at one point over looking the play area and we noticed a broken light bulb right off the balcony my husband grazed it with his hand luckily didn’t cut himself. But they should def inspect those often. The dj was pretty good and the restrooms were clean through out the night despite all the vomiting girls over flowing the restroom so ill leave it at 2 stars.

I was not very happy with this place. I specifically went last night, to watch the frog race, and it never happened. The door man told us it would start within the next 15 minutes or no later than midnight. We waited till after they began to put the frog race stuff up. When I tried to ask about it, I was ignored. The drinks, they were not bad.

He went ahead to tell me it would be an additonal $20 per person, and when I gave him that amount, he raised the price to $40 a person. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS! I prefer to give ethical places my business. I will never go here again and neither should any of you!

Music was confusing but overall ok ambiance.Edit... just looked at my bank account. These guys double charged my tab! I will be so happy to see this place close down, and it WILL close down sooner than later! A group of friends and I decide to bar hop a little around the area and Gas lamp ended up being our last stop. Not knowing the type of place it was we decided to stop by to only realize they were charging $20 for males.. Giving that we didnt know this place well, we went ahead and paid. When he got to the last male in our group he said he couldnt go in with the shoes he had on (sneakers) we asked why, he replied its our dress code, you can wear anything but sneakers (we are Hispanics). As a group we had no option but to leave and go to another place. As we were walking out when we notice a group of men walking right in with no hesitation for free! We found it so humiliating!!! Not only we sit there across gas lamp by the food truck and witness the white discriminate minority and charging cover... But he saw us looking and laughed as he did it! Its almost a joke at this point, but avoid this place.In my 5 visits here, Ive had nothing but bad experiences. The idea of an unobstructed rooftop patio bar sounds pretty sweet, right? Well, thatll be a $20 cover. Thats assuming you are even let into the first floor by the discriminatory bouncers (racist, homophobic, elitist, you get the idea...).It takes ages to get a drink, there are very few bartenders. The bartenders/waitresses are not very knowledgeable (I once asked what was on draft, they asked me what draft is). Good luck if you choose to come here.For similar atmosphere, go to Third Floor or Dogwood instead. On the plus, the decor is great. Enjoy it on a weekday. Avoid it on the weekends.

Good atmosphere but drinks are expensive and there is a charge for going upstairs. Music upstairs can be good though. Dont buy the pizza from the guy on the street. That pizza is burnt, and obviously 2 weeks old. He shouldnt be allowed to sell food there.

I knew the place discriminated against minorities, but I needed to prove it to a couple of buddies. My white friend was wearing shorts, flip flops, and a ball cap, so we sent him to the door first. The door man let him in without a problem. He didnt even check his ID. 30 seconds later, my black friend and I walked to the door. The door man asked us for $20. I asked why, and he told us it was because they had a dress code and we were wearing shorts.

Ive been here a few times and there usually is something wrong at the door with the door guys. Either shirt sleeves are too long or pants not baggy enough. The door guys charged me $10 to get in and my friend $20 right behind me because his polo shirt sleeves were too short (same length as mine, he was Hispanic tho). Some bartenders charge more for drinks than other bartenders on different levels. There are better bars around here without the discourteous staff and better prices, I probably will never go back.

Its got a great roof top with view of downtown. Expensive to enter which does filter the crowd and prevents overcrowding on top. Overall recommend if you are willing to pay entrance fee.

THIS PLACE IS DISCRIMINATES!!!I want to start off by saying that I love to party in the Midtown area and I always have a great time, until this past weekend at Gaslamp. I waited in line with a group of friends and as my group began to walk in, myself and one other friend (both African American) were stopped by the rope. I told the bouncer that he cut our group off and our friends were at the door waiting on us. He then stated that the cover was $10. I asked why, because everyone in front of us did not have to pay including our friends. He shrugged his shoulders and said if we wanted to get in (the only two of color) We had to Pay. I was flabbergasted and immediately asked to speak with a manager. I tried to talk to anyone who looked like they may be of some authority and they all avoided me. I even witnessed one of the bouncers tell another bouncer to IGNORE me. As I was waiting for a manager the same guy who tried to charge us began yelling out leave we dont want you here among other remarks. Finally after about 10 minutes of being completely ignored the so called manager walked up and said he did not have anytime to listen to what I had to say and that he was busy running the business. He then threatened me by saying I needed to leave or he would have an officer escort me off the premises. I was appalled and livid that any manager of a business would not have the time to hear how their employee is blatantly discriminating against their clientele. This place is horrid and is breaking the law. FYI GASLAMP, The Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title II SEC. 201. states, (a) All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, and privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of RACE, COLOR, religion, or national origin. Bottom line, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!!

Be prepared to be denied entry due to your shoes or whatever when someone else with the same exact shoes got in right before you. If you are a member of a minority? Forget it. Doesnt matter how you dress, you arent getting in. I dont blame the bouncers, they are following managements instructions. The time that I have gotten in when it was slow, service was terrible and the drinks were worse. Wonder when we will see this place on Bar Rescue.

The door should say have a sign saying NO COLOREDS ALLOWED just to spare us the humiliation. A group of my friends and I walked up to the door. Every girl except for one had on heels. The doorman said no to the group of us because of her having on sandals. Then he looked up at me and said no because I had a ripped jeans. We didnt say anything but simply turned around and walked to another bar (because maybe that had a dress code that we didnt know about). They walked right into the bar with no hesitation. My friend couldnt resist to go back to the door and question why we werent able to enter. He replied that it was because my jeans had too many rips. Im usually not the type to always pull the race card, however, Im 100% positive that was the case. Especially after seeing all of the other reviews. The owner should be ashamed of himself. My God, its 2015! Quite frankly money is green and being white, black, purple or any other skin color we will ALL have the SAME green money. Why not let us all spend it at your establishment? Gaslamp has a very vintage 1940s look to it. It reminds me of stepping into the Great Gatsby movie. Thursday nights there are just as busy as Fridays and weekends. The Thursday night that I went out, they had a live band there and they were rocking it out like crazy. Many people dont know that they actually serve food there and have this Greek kabob chicken that is amazing! They also have a photo booth there. The only thing about this place is that they have an upstairs part that they only let certain people in. Not sure what the requirements are to go upstairs but its probably money, status or looks so if any of you that find out, let me know. Other than that , this is perfect place to go when you go out with your friends.

They said we couldnt dance on the dance floor. Bizarre, particularly for a place that has more of a club vibe than anywhere in the vicinity in midtown.

I was at this establishment 20 mins ago and was told by the bouncer that me and my wife had to pay $10 each for the entry fee. I was taken back because most establishments in midtown do not charge cover. So me and my wife stepped to the side so the group of Caucasian guys behind us could go get admitted in while we decide whether it was worth paying the cover. The bounce just check the group of guys ID and didnt charge them cover. I was baffled by the discrimination and just went home. As my wife and I walked pass the establishment looking through the window, it was obvious that racism still exist and colored are not preferred.

After enjoying a few drinks at a martini bar, we proceeded to go to gaslamps given all of the good things a friend of mine had heard about the bar. It was 5 of us ( African American Ladies) who stood in line and waited in the cold like everyone else to enter. When the first 3 ladies stepped into the bar the door worker, Mike, proceeded to place his arm in front of me to stop me and another friend. He stated that we needed to pay the $10 cover that he hadnt charged ONE SINGLE PERSON IN FRONT OF US. I stated ok and asked that he would stop our 3 friends that had went in so that we did not separate, he stated that they snuck in and needed to come back and leave. We told him that paying the $10 cover was no problem but that he hadnt stated that to anyone walking in and so we didnt know. He said we were being obnoxious and rude and got loud and very out of character. We asked that he calm down, that the $10 was nothing to pay but that he needed to let us know why we were being charged when others were not. I am a sister to a hip hop artist and God Sister to a professional athlete ,but Ive been to so many sophisticated establishments and Ive never experienced the amount of racism we did at this bar. I was so angry, frustrated and actually embarrassed. I will make sure that NO ONE I know ever spends their hard earned cash in a trashy, racist business like this mess.

This place is a joke! I had to pay $10 to get in the door then I tried to walk up to the 2nd floor and it would have cost another $10! I was there for 2 hours and only managed to get 1 drink from the bartender. They let in way too many people just to bank off the door fee and the bartenders cant handle the crowd. I AM WARNING YOU, DO NOT GO HERE!!!

If you like to be bombarded by ear popping music and drown in a sea of people on a weekend night, this is your place. Forget getting a good drink.

I never let reviews stop me from going to a place for myself but I wish I had.It was my friend and I in line behind about 4 other (white) people and a party of two in front of of where one girl was black and the other white. The party of 4 walked straight in then when the two girls got to the door the doorman/security told them they needed to pay $20 cover. They got out the money and Ok, no problem but why do we have to pay and no one else did? He instantly got loud, told them that they needed to leave, and grabbed the police officer to repeat it to them. Then a group of 6 (white) people , who didnt stand in line at all walks straight no cover or anything. We get to the front and are very polite show our IDs say hello with no response hes like $20 after we just seen no one else pay. We had the money but decided to go to dogwood instead. If its That RACISTS AND DISCRIMINATORY at the door I dont even want to know how it is inside.

Seriously, dont go here. My friend and I (Hispanic and black) were charged a $10 cover for entry even though there were only a few dozen people in the bar. I was ok with it at first because they made it sound like the $10 was because they were playing the UFC fights. Two more friends join us shortly thereafter, and are granted entry for free. Two minorities charged $10 each and two white men not charged anything within about 5 minutes of each other. Same racist owner and bar policies that got these guys on the news in the first place. Ill take my money elsewhere next time.

This place charged an extra tip onto both mine and my friends card over $15.00 extra. This is a very shady place. DO NOT GO HERE. All of the reviews are true.

To be honest I had a really good time until I ask the bouncer which way back to my hotel and he was really rude to me

Nice atmosphere and not too crowded on a Friday night. Going upstairs does cost extra.

Had fun and play great music. Nice touch was adding the hookah
