Best hidden gem in all of Houston. 41 to walk/53 to ride, cant beat this rate for a top notch golf course. Its better than a lot of private clubs Ive played. Friendly staff, easy to get tee times on weekends. An easy walk, pace of play is generally really good here. Greens are always in great shape.

Wow what a great track. Beautifully manicured and lovely design. The greens are super fast. Too bad they dont sell beer and their pro shop could be better but its by far one of the best muni courses Ive ever seen. Word of advice: the blue tees are deceptively long.

Undulation is amazing!! Its not on every hole, but the holes that have it are awesome. At times youll be around 50 feet below the green and have to hit up to it. Greens are amazing! They are pure, even on a day where it rained in the morning. They were fast and smooth. Staff are also top-notch. They were helpful and checked on us to see how the pace of play was. It is a shorter course for sure, but it will definitely test your short game, and since youre so close to the street on some holes, will also test your long game accuracy. For the price, you cant beat it.

You will be hard pressed trying to find a better bang for your buck in the area for sure. The greens are always in good shape. The HGA took over the course and it shows. Its walkable and on the shorter side but still has its challenges.

This is a great place for golf lovers. For those that arent so big in golf it is a real patience tester. They have 18 holes. Sand traps. Slopes. Well maintained greens. The only thing that keeps this place from the 5 stars is the fact that its right next to a busy street. There is a big risk of injury or causing an accident. Other than that is a great place. Friendly staff, patient. They have rental golf clubs. They sell gloves, t-shirts, cleats and drinks. Also the place has rental golf cars or carts for you clubs in case youd like to walk.

Changed this to 5 stars after playing it regularly the past several months. Great layout, decent fairways and great greens. Price is very reasonable also. Courteous and professional staff. My first trip, the parking lot seems like it needed some more spaces, but I have always found a spot. New clubhouse to be built soon, so looking forward to that. Only slight negative is on holes 2 and 3, your are parallel to a busy street and any bad slice has a chance of a window accident, and the bayou can sometimes have unpleasant debris/trash floating in it, but these are only minor relative to the quality/layout/price of the course.

Incredible job done bringing this course back!Greens, fairways, practice facility, all done excellent. It is perfect for walking or riding, the elevation changes are very unique for courses in this area. Architect Baxter Spann and the HGA have done a top notch job.More work on the way with chipping green and club house. I’m excited to get back out there.

I was not impressed with this golf course. It is a great layout and it could be challenging if the tee boxes and fairways were in better shape. Pace of play was Christmas in July slow. They have NO MARSHALLS on the course and we could not find adequate drinking water on the course. They have some work to do before I ever go back. There are better golf courses in Houston for the money.

Google maps directs you to the wrong location, the entrance is kind of janky, and the pro shop used to have wheels, but dont let that stop you from trying this delightful gem! The course was in fantastic shape, it was hillier than most places in Houston, well designed, and the price wasnt bad either.

Wow, this is the first time I have played this course, since it was redone. All I can say is amazing! The greens were perfect, and the fairways fantastic! The layout of the course is pretty much the same as before, but there are some changes and they are good changes. I completely enjoyed my round of golf on this course and will return next week. The clubhouse is gone and will be replaced by a new facility in the future!

Pro, great public course, very unique and undulating fairways and greens, holes varied lengths and mixed layouts, good value.con, no club house and restaurant. no 5some allowed period, even on slow days. we had 5 players, had to break up 2 and 3, even no other players behind.

I’ve played every course inside the loop public/private. Gus Wortham is hands down the best public course you can ask for since the upgrades. Greens were rolling great 2-3 weeks after being punched, tee boxes in great shape, aesthetically pleasing holes and elevation change.Hope no one finds out about it so it doesn’t get over crowded.Don’t play here unless you are decent.

Went with a buddy this past weekend. Round costs about $50 and is completely worth it. Greens and fairways are in great conditions. Holes have lots of variety and run a pretty long for average players (400+ yard par 4s - drive pictured below with view to tee box and greens far in the distance). We loved the variation of design of the holes and I’ll be playing here most of my rounds from here on out.

Id like to give this course higher rating, for the effort to build an oasis in the middle of Houston. BUT they definitely need to clean the Brays Bayou that passes through the course! Take a look at these pics from hole #7 - it looks disgusting! Few turtles were trying to make their way through the garbage and God forbid anyone falls in! Yikes.

Hands down the worst golf experience of my life. Pace of play was atrocious. I was waiting minimum 5 minutes between shots on a Wednesday afternoon 4:50pm tee time. I was charged $8 for somebody to ride in the cart with me and not play. I will not be returning and don’t recommend anybody going

Great municipal golf course. Can play for $20 w/ cart after work. Pretty great deal. Course is in great shape. Only downside to this course is the lack of netting or more trees near the road way. You can really damage some vehicles if you have a slice. The first few holes are really pretty dangerous. Also a few fairways were pretty hard (like concrete) and need to be aerated.

The renovated layout is AMAZING, especially if youve played here before and dreamt about what it could be. The fairways are undulating and smooth offering a mixed bag of stances with challenging bunker placement making you choose clubs wisely. The greens run true and fast though they didnt break as much as I had anticipated. 4 stars....(no 5th star due to lack of yardages provided on the course, no hole description at tee box, no amenities, and cart was not ready with fresh scorecard/pencil)...I admittedly already liked the old Gus, but man this new Gus is going to be my new favorite course

Course was okay. Here for a bachelor party and called ahead to make sure that they had left handed rental clubs (they said they did). Get there and it turns out they have 1 left handed rental set so I was out of luck (already rented out). Paid $50 bucks to sit in a cart and basically ride along for 18 holes. Check in with them at the turn and they still don’t have the rentals back. Staff was unapologetic and pretty much acted in a way that said “well that sucks for you, but it’s not my problem.”

Played 6/22/2019. The course is in great shape. The re-design/refurbisnment has done wonders to the course and layout. It is a hookers course with most of the out of bounds and water on the right. Elevation changes make for tough approach shots to well bunkered greens. The only drawbacks were that the facilities were in temporary housing and entry roads had not yet been paved. Overall it is a terrific golfing experience. Highly recommend.

Rebuilt course is fun to play!As for the rest, not so much. Still no beer or burgers or place to sit after a round. Putting green is a mile from #1 tee and there is no chipping green, Trees and branches are piled up on every hole and in the bayous. And the clay they used to reshape the fairways is still clay and you still cant play for days after a rain. I wonder what theyll do when the grass needs watering this summer? Cart path only, I guess, which will be okay because Gus is a great walking course. Bring your own pull cart though, theirs rent for almost the same as electric..

Just played it for the first time. This course is a gem. There is a lot of topography here, unusual for Houston area courses. The greens are very cool, lots of undulation. The routing is fun, because its kind of quirky (the site is small, and the old course dictated a lot of the new layout, and it adds character). And after all the rains weve had, it had drained very well. This course is a must-do.

Certainly a great value for the money. This course just blew me away. It didnt appear to be much different but really Friendly staff and it has some very good / challenging holes. It far exceeds Sharpstown or Bear Creek. Its much like Stephen F. Austin but its only about 30 minutes from any point inside the Beltway. I like it better than Memorial and the waiting is less. Many beautiful live oak and trees give it real beauty. I recommend it for any amateur golfer....Oct 5 2016...played again today and further conviction that this course it just great. BUT my critique has to do with the length of the grass--fairways are right but the adjacent grass is TOO LONG and a lot of time is wasted looking for ball that roll just inches off the short fairway grass...please cut the grass about the same as the fairway (would save doing it separately) but leave it longer just around the water hazards and bunkers. Thanks see you next week...

So disappointed. The GOOD -- The course is in pretty good condition, considering were in the off-season. As for course conditions, Id give them 4 stars. As for the re-design, I like a lot of it, but some of it felt unnecessary. Some of the bunkers they added were not needed, IMO, and is just going to add to their overhead cost for maintenance. The BAD - The HGA has done a lot of good for this place, but right now theres very limited parking and theyre operating out of a trailer until the new facility is complete. The price went up and they seem to have a bit more of an attitude in the clubhouse than I would expect. There doesnt seem to be much appreciation for the customer. They were almost a bit snobbish. And now The UGLY - Pace of play and Tee Times. OMG! I had a tee time as a single booked online. When I get there, they tell me Im going to have to cart up with someone...no problem. I expected that. However, when I make my way over to the line for the first tee box (yes, there was a line), I talked to the starter and he said I would need to cart up with someone. A minute later, he tells me theres a foursome already booked at my tee time and hell work me in with another group. Wait...what? I can only assume the other 3 guys at my tee time brought a friend and the guy in the clubhouse just added him to the tee time and opted to move ME! I voiced my displeasure at this. Then, it just so happened a walk-up two-some came up at that same time. Despite there not being any available tee times for hours, they decided to pair them up with me and sent us off within 15 minutes of my expected time and shoved everyone else back, I guess. The round took well over 4.5 hours and it was painfully slow the entire day. Theyre so worried about getting as many people on the course as possible, they create a huge backlog. I wont be going back any time soon. Maybe in 6 months or a year, once the newness wears off, it wont be so crowded and it will be more enjoyable. Right now, Ive got way too many options for equally manicured courses at a MUCH better price.

Good value for your money, some challenging holes with elevation changes, creeks and trees. Greens could be in better shape and in most tee boxes the ball washers are damaged, missing parts, club washers are all broken. Car paths are destroyed, terrible shape. Overall it needs some maintenance, there is plan to upgrade most of the complex and they are in the process of raising money, hopefully it improves. Also no beverage cart so you need to bring your cooler and fill-up before you start. I will continue playing here since its a convenient location and good value for the money.
