I encourage Mexican folk art collectors who live in the Houston area and beyond to shop at this gift shop. Also, if you happen to enjoy rock painting, there is a new book available on Amazon.com called Rock Painting For Kids Mexican Folk Art Style, by Maria Sandoval.

A great little shop in the Heights. The place is chock full of folk art from Mexico. It has everything from books, to clothes, to games, to figures, to music, to jewelry. It is a feast for the eyes. The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable. If you are doing an offrenda for Dia de los Muertos, this is the place to go. It is well worth the trip. Thank you.

I have enjoyed visiting Casa Ramirez. Everyone was always so helpful and they have a great collection of books that are not always available in other bookstores or book sellers. Their día de los muertes alteres are always a holiday favorite for my family & I.

Excellent service and friendly vibes with awesome folk art, books and clothing. I think I’ve purchased 10 serapes over time, every time I come in they have new colors and patterns.

One of my favorite spots in the Heights. Calling it an import store does not do it justice. Sr. and Sra. Ramirez do classes in Ofrenda building and stage a grand Day of the Dead celebration with several elaborate altars. This place is more a Mexican cultural center celebrating the artistry and genius of the Mexican people. They have clothing, crafts, jewelry, books and art objects. I have been going here for years and never go to the Heights without visiting for gifts or just a chat. Its a learning experience.

I absolutely adore this place. My favorite thing to buy from here is the purses and the Frida Kahlo handmade art. Also very great selection of books by Latino authors. My first visit was unforgettable to me, the owner was very sweet and welcoming. As a first generation Chicana and a child of immigrant parents. I appreciate and continue to support this business by stoping a few times a year. Thank you Casa Ramirez by keeping the Mexican Heritage Alive.

Prepare to restrain yourselves from buying everything because its all so good! The owners are good honest people! They were so informative and fun! They even asked if we wanted to model their unique aprons since we loved them so much! Whether you want art, furniture, books, hand crafted items or home goods, this is the spot! A simply gorgeous store! What a great discovery. All things Mexican, from hats to clothes to bags to art, and one of the most extensive arrays of bilingual childrens (and other) books I think Ive ever seen. Plus papel picado, ceramic ware, sugar skulls, soft furnishings... beautiful. And friendly staff! Pay them a visit; you wont regret it :)
