A must see if you visit Hawaii. The only disappointing part of this visit is the current COVID situation keeping us from watching the movie before the trip to the USS Arizona. This is a sombering trip and monument dedicated to some of the greatest men and women of the greatest generation of the greatest country in the world.

Very nice memorial, we learned a lot. Because of covid not every part was open. Recommend to make a reservation ahead of time unless going right when they open and you can more than likely get on without one. This is a must see in Oahu. it’s also a FREE tour. We had trouble when searching and found lots of websites that wanted to charge $50 and up.

Reserve your tickets in advance and show up 15 minutes early. I was late, so i miss reservation thankfully they were able to get on the next trip. If you do the full tour plan on being there for more than an hour.

Beautiful memorial with great views of the harbor and Ford Island. Theres plenty of parking here and is also easily accessible by bus. Numbers 20 and 42 will bring you here from Waikiki at a cost of $5.50 for a day pass. Its strictly a no bag policy anywhere whilst inside the memorial and on the island so just dont bring one. If you do bring a bag then youll have to pay $5 per bag to store it for the day. We arrived early in the morning, just as the park was opening. I would recommend doing the same as you entitle yourself to the free tickets for the USS Arizona Memorial. This is free anyway but at this time theres less crowds and you watch a short video with a bit of extra information from rangers. Once this was done we went on a short boat ride to the memorial itself spending approximately 15 minutes there and then came back to the centre. From here we got the shuttle across to the Missouri Memorial where we were able to look around and got guided tours included in the price of the ticket. It is truly a brilliant place to spend the day learning about history and paying your respects to those who lost their lives.

Good experience, but to be totally honest, other than being there in person, there is not much more that you can gain than what can be sourced through readily available media. I think children, who are teens, might foster some worldly understanding. My biggest take away, RECONSIDER DOING A TOUR. We paid over $70, including tip, to be picked up at our hotel, dropped off at Pearl Harbor, then about two hours later taken back to our hotel. The only benefit was not having to purchase tickets far in advance or get there really early and hope you get tickets (the tickets are only a few dollars). The commentary, was at times, irksome and sometimes just incorrect.

My trip to the Pearl Harbor Memorial has become a staple for visitors who come to the islands to visit. This time around it was my parents (who have grown into some stability issues with time) who came. Somewhat surprisingly, there were no issues regarding those stability concerns. There were ample places to sit down throughout the facility for them to rest which meant energy level wasnt an issue, either (Just understand that half the point of the place is resting or riding on water and pay close attention where needed.). We got there early so the memorial still had plenty of free tickets to take advantage of. In addition to that, I purchased the audio tour which has several locations around the facility where additional explanations and content are given to the listener. It was a bit pricey, but worth it for at least one of them who wasnt as big of a history buff. If you get the earliest tickets, be prepared to jump into the first movie presentation and boat tour that they offer which gave me (just barely enough) time to purchase the audio tour and catch up. Following the combination of movie and boat tour, we were able to enjoy the rest of the audio tour, at our leisure. The content was all relevant to the memorial. The facilities were clean and well- kept (there was construction on the submarine memorial side but it did not detract from the visit). There was also enough historic information provided without feeling overwhelmed by it. It has ramps and braille for visitors, but is otherwise mostly at ground level. They have a snack store on the premises and a busy souvenir shop to cap off the visit. We easily used three hours and felt like we could have spent longer. Definitely worth recommending and probably wont be my last visit.

Pearl Harbor National Memorial is a unit of the National Park System of the United States on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, signed by Donald Trump on March 12, 2019, removed the site from the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument (instead making it the separate Pearl Harbor National Memorial site).[1] It has an area of 21.3 acres (0.086 km2)The site commemorates the events of the Attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, which killed over 2,400 Americans and sank twelve ships. The site includes the USS Arizona Memorial, the USS Utah memorial, the USS Oklahoma memorial, six chief petty officer bungalows on Ford Island, mooring quays F6, F7, and F8, which formed part of Battleship Row, and the visitor center at Halawa Landing.A visitor center and park features galleries on the Pacific theater of World War II, a theater showing a film about the attack, and memorial sculpture. Visitors may take a ferry to the Arizona memorial.Nearby are the USS Missouri memorial, USS Bowfin museum, and Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, which are designated historic attractions within the Pearl Harbor Naval Complex.

Instead, the park service has a small boat trip out to the memorial, around the concrete boat stations where the ships were during the attack, and past the Mighty Mo. We were with someone who had been before and he said this tour was better. Worth visiting for sure!

There is a solemn atmosphere here. I didnt take many photos here, I just tried to feel the sacrifice the men on Pearl Harbor and during WW2 have us.The Arizona memorial is a free event where they show you a video about the events of the day Pearl Harbor was attacked and then take you on a boat to see the harbor. At the time I post this, they dont go to the Arizona memorial because of a docking issue but show you all the major sites around it including the memorial, you just dont get on it. It should be fixed this fall though. There are a few things you can see like the USS Missouri and USS Bowfin and the Aviation museum. I love this era of history but have been to so many submarines, carriers and aviation museums that I wasnt that interested in all those this visit but they do a great job with each one.

Fantastic National Memorial dedicated to events which led up to, included and followed the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.I had heard getting the free tickets to the Arizona Memorial was a challenge and discovered they were not available on the particular date I wanted to go, over a month in advance when checking online! But there were limited walk-up tickets available on a first-come, first-served, basis.Getting to the park can be tricky, especially in rush-hour as early as 5 a.m. due to military personnel heading to the base to begin their day. I took an Uber ride from Waikiki, which got me there fine, but cost around $30.00. (As of Jan. 2020).I was first in line on a Friday in January, arriving around 6 a.m. and no one was there (yet). Early birds started arriving in earnest about 6:30 a.m. and by 6:45 a.m. the line was wrapping down the main entrance and down the sidewalk to the parking lot.I highly recommend getting either a guided or audio tour (what I did) to the Arizona Memorial to get a full appreciation of the events which happened there. The audio tour is very good (voiced by Jamie Lee Curtis) and includes historic broadcasts as well as interviews from witnesses of day. You can also go at your own pace if you want to read the many documents on display at the museums and surrounding areas. The Arizona Memorial tour begins with a 20+ minute film documenting the events which took place and answers many questions as to the why of the attack. The ferry-ride is a solemn occasion with the crew taking special care to ensure the aura of sanctity is assured for your visit. The level of respect and depth of knowledge displayed by the crew is unmatched by any other national park team Ive visited. The Memorial itself is stunning, spanning the mid-section of the submerged warship. The remains of the ships third turret is still visible above water. Inside, you will see various plaques explaining significant items of interest. The most solemn and impressive part of the Memorial is the shrine on the far-back wall displaying the names of the crew lost on the ship, with over 900 crew members entombed below. The Memorial does not end there. You can also visit the battleship Missouri, see the submarine Bowfin, or visit a special Pearl Harbor museum. There is an extra charge to visit these places, but tickets do not run out (I did not have time to visit these this trip). To the right (as you enter) is the Submarine Bowfin, as well as a memorial for those vessels lost in Silent Service over the years. On display (for free) are various types of torpedoes used, a sample conning tower (which you can enter) and anti-aircraft guns used on ships.Refreshment areas are on site and gift shops as well. Penny-press collectors can find 4 machines by the Bowfin gift shop.Be aware, you will need to check your bags and purses to enter the area. There is a small storage area before the main entrance.

I would recommend paying to enter the ships and subs (USS Bowfin etc) if you are really interested in them, but I do think the USS Arizona Memorial is worth it regardless. A must-see if in Honolulu or on Oahu. There are a few memorials here, but you have to pay for the Bowfin and Missouri. The Arizona if free, ibut you must get tickets from the National park service. During busy times like spring break and Christmas, come early to get tickets. The boat ride is short to the .memorial, and the movie before the trip explains why it happened. Still, a solemn place to remember how history was shaped. No bags are allowed, there are lockers available to rent or leave it in your car. The memorial itself is humbling, and a volunteer will narrate a bunch of facts about the crew and that fateful day. My husband and I visited Pearl Harbor in June of 2019. I read up all about it and how to get tickets. We decided to go early and buy our tickets at the front desk of the park. We did that because I read that if you go early, you can get a ticket to the movie and memorial — those are hard to get and have to be reserved ahead of time in order for you to receive one. So we went early, got our tickets for the SS Arizona Memorial, Mighty Mo (the warship), the flight museum, and the submarine walkthrough. We originally went to Pearl Harbor for the Memorial at the SS Arizona because that’s what everyone goes there for. That’s what you think of when you want to tour Pearl Harbor. Our scheduled time for the memorial was 3pm. We got there early at 9am... waited all day in the heat touring our other options, which were cool, but again you go to Pearl Harbor to walk on the memorial, only to find out the memorial was closed!!! Closed until October of 2019 for construction on the dock.So we didn’t even get to the see the memorial. I saw no warning on the park’s website of it being closed. No worker told us it was closed when we bought our tickets. How disrespectful to veterans who went to Pearl Harbor during that time and realize it’s closed!Frankly, I just want my money back and for all veterans who visited during June 2019-October 2019 to get their money back as well. No one ever told us. Our tour ended up being our scheduled movie, then we got on the boat ride only to be taken back and forth 100 yards away from the memorial! Super disrespectful. The other options had a lot of history, great learning experience, but BAD experience with the park’s service.

The parking was a nightmare, but we eventually found something. Warning, you cannot enter the park with a bag much larger than a clutch, so dont bother bringing much. We didnt really get to do anything but see the plaques and memorials they had available (along with the submarine, missiles on site and memorial in the distance). I opted to do the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, the Missouri battleship, and the Bowfin submarine. Theres a short (5 minutes) boat ride to the U.S.S. Arizona memorial, which is built right on top of the sunken ship and is quite impressive. (FYI, I get seasick, but I was fine on this boat ride because it was so short.)Then, I took the shuttle to the U.S.S. Missouri, which was my favorite part of the memorial, since Ive never been on a battleship. Our tour guide there was fantastic! I did the Bowfin last, and that was neat, but Id say you could certainly skip it if youre pressed for time or just not interested.I enjoyed my visit, but I wish there was more indication of how to progress through all the sites, and what each one actually was. I recommend researching each site beforehand so you can make an informed decision when purchasing your tickets (because there are a handful of ticket options).Get there as early in the morning as possible to easily get some walk-up tickets; otherwise I think its important to make a reservation online in advance. Emotional and informative. A must see. Lots to see and do. Can spend a whole day here. Medium sized bags and larger cannot be taken into the facility and must be stored in a locker. Staff were incredibly polite.

A must visit when youre in Honolulu. Anyone over the age of about 7 will love the museums. The Aviation museum in particular is pretty amazing, and being able to go in an actual submarine was great!

Been coming here since I was in elementary school, to now when I visit home.It is an emotional place and a must see. The museums added helped give perspective to the attack and aftermath.I highly recommend coming early to get tickets (free) when they open at 7 am. Especially if you are coming during the peak seasons and weekends. There is an online website to reserve tickets ($1.50 online fee) 2 months ahead. We came on a Wednesday in October to visit and got here at 8 am (kids wouldnt get out of bed) and got 8:30 am tickets.I prefer Wednesday because we go to the Swap Meet right afterwards. Great way to knock out both activities.

Very good couple of hours, and you could easily spend half a day here.My advice is to arrive early and do the free memorial tour, and then buy tickets to the other monuments.Big piece of history.

I liked the tour. The memorial was inaccessible though. They dont let you bring in any bags bigger than what your fist fits in. So cant really bring in food and a standard hot dog is $7. I went for 2.5 hours. There were all day tours.

One of the most known and visited US memorials. What more to say. Puts things in perspective of why the US is a great country and the freedoms we have.

I was fortunate enough to have spent 5 years here as a child in the early 70s. I was even more fortunate to return in 2019 with my father. This is an absolutley solemn place of incredible history. So revenant. A little secret most dont know...if you go to the USS Missouri memorial/store they have a secret book that can be signed by all NCOs who served in the Navy in Pearl Harbor. What an honor. Less than 10,000 have ever signed it.

Its open again! Awesome and very pretty boat ride to the memorial. You get to spend roughly 25 minutes there and then the boat comes back to take you back to the island. Must see to explore and witness if youre in the area, so much history here.

Lots of military history here - show up early so you can read all the info before you hop on the boat. It’s kind of amazing that the memorial itself is on top of the actual sunken ship - it’s one thing to read about it but another thing entirely to stand where the ship was sank. Very amazing and sobering experience. If you come to Honolulu and have any interest in history, make sure you check this out.

We came with a tour and honestly felt super rushed. I would strongly suggest giving yourself all day to fully appreciate each part. It is well kept and respectfully run.

Pearl Harbor is a must see while visiting Oahu! We only spent half the day there, but if I had it to do over again I’d plan on spending the entire day there. The history is amazing to learn and practically experience. Definitely recommend visiting the Pearl Harbor Memorial while visiting Oahu!

It’s a have to. Pay your respects and lean more than what you did in history class. It can be emotional so be prepared. They are opening a new section soon for subs.

Well documented piece of history. Can be accessed by public transit. To have tours is costly but you can just go in and take pictures without cost.

What an awesome museum to tour in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. It was an honor as a US service member to pay my respects to the USS Arizona crew. The tour staff of U.S. Navy And the US national parks gave a great tour of USS Arizona Memorial. The tour guides had excellent knowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor and Outstanding knowledge of the USS Arizona battleship. God bless the crew of the USS Arizona and made a rest in peace and may we never forget their sacrifices for this country. If you’re in the Hawaii area stop by and see the USS Arizona Memorial

This is a must see if you have any time on Oahu. The obvious historical significance should be more than enough reason, but the exhibits and tours available make it very unique. I first visited the Arizona memorial more than 40 years ago. Theyve made significant improvements in every aspect of the experience and more are in process. For younger kids it is probably not going to be something they enjoy, but for middle to high school kids with an interest in US history or WWII it will be worth almost a full day.The views are spectacular, and it is relatively easy to put yourself back in time, to immerse yourself in the moments that changed lives almost 60 years ago.We arrived about 15 minutes before the memorial opened and the line was already huge. Im note sure when you need to arrive to be at the front of the line. Once the line started moving it moved very quickly. You get a ticket and check in for a time to go out to the Arizona Memorial. While you wait there are a variety of exhibits to walk through, and like I said you could spend the day at the site. There is lots of free parking, but remember where you park and dont lock your keys in your car. We tried to help two groups that locked their keys in their car on our way back to ours.Dress for the weather. You are going to be outside for the boat ride out to the Memorial, the Memorial is essentially open to the elements, and many of the exhibits are also open/outdoors. Thankfully the weather is usually excellent.
