Amazing sunset, beach was not packed. We made it just in time to watch the sunset. It was very relaxing, the breeze was nice and cool. I enjoyed watching the surfers. If you dont want to take the walk down to the beach you can park your car on the road and still enjoy the view. You will also get an amazing view of the lighthouse. Take a little something to eat and unwind.

One of the frequent things I do while visiting Honolulu is to take a long walk along Diamond Head Road. I make sure to hike directly along Diamond Head Beach Park since you can come to the beach by going down Beach Road. There is a way back up by taking the inclined pathway at the far end of the beach, back to Diamond Head Road.Depending on the time of day, the suns angle makes for some interesting lighting effects, which I have captured in my photos here. There are people, most men, who come here to sunbathe in the all together, which I find refreshing and natural. The city authorities have removed all the homeless people who had been living on this cliff directly above this beach. My new friend, who was staying in the same hostel, enjoyed getting to know Diamond Head Beach and was more eager than I to shed his clothes.

Long beautiful beach good for walking, picnicking, surfing, snorkeling, and fishing. Rocks and sharp seaweeds in many places, so bare feet not recommended in the water. Sand strip is somewhat narrow and gets very thin if you go left or right too far.

Diamond Head Beach Park is one of the hidden gems that is not too far from Waikiki, but far enough to leave it in relative isolation from the typical hordes of tourists flocking to Waikikis beaches. It is about 1 mile or maybe longer from Honolulu Aquarium, turning right and following DH Road to Beach Road, that descends on the right to the shore. Typically, it is not very crowded and almost deserted at certain times of the week and the day. There was a time a few years ago when homeless people were starting to take over this beach, but now they have been moved out. There are men and women who sunbathe in various stages of undress since it is apparently not illegal to be without even a bathing suit on Honolulu city beaches. There is a shower at the far end and an inclined pathway that leads back up to Diamond Head Road.

Easy accessible and not crowded. Well, I guess at this time of covid pandemic.

Best to go just after low tide when the water begins to rise. There will be sand to utilize, anytime after that your chances of getting some sand area decrease. It was a nice beach until all the homeless took over and now you have to worry about walking in urine or feces or other items. Then theres the occasional weirdo or person who doesnt take the hint that you want to be left alone.

Parking is usually packed but once you make it down to the water it feels secluded but also like youre being watched from above. The beach is narrow and depends on tide. Theres a little hike to get from the parking lot down to the beach. Make sure to secure your car

Its a shallow water beach for snorkelers and surfers. Super beautiful but hard to get to. there is a lot of parking but you have to almost climb down paths to get there from the scenic spot. But if you want to learn to surf or get away to tan then this is the perfect spot

Great spot. Beautiful narrow beach walk Strong currents it seems so popular with surfers. Not ideal for kiddie splashing though. There are apparently a few people making use of the water supply and ‘camping’ in the area.

Nice (felt semi-secluded) quiet beach with sparkly, soft sand, and beautiful shades of turquiose waters. Quite rocky, and the population increased later in the afternoon. Nature has added some awesome sand formations along the coast. Great place to just be.

A nice low impact walk takes you to the top. By low impact I mean “no serious climbing” but “don’t forget there are still stairs in front of you.” When you get to the top you can choose to go right or left for the final ascent. Right takes you through the internal military facility complete with old metal staircases and corresponding claustrophobia. To the left are simply stairs. The view from the top is worth the walk.

Below Diamond head trail. Just posing for the gram - JohnGutters at Instagram - didn’t hike the trail but did visit the beach below. This specific spot is apparently off limits as its government property. It’s a very small driveway more then likely you will miss it among s all the greenery and houses.

Hiking Diamond Head is a must when visiting Oahu. Wear proper shoes when doing it. The hike isnt too bad. Once you enter Diamond head, you will climb a spiral stair case and some tunnels to get to the gun opening. Climb out that and you can then go to the top for a 360 degree view of Oahu. Nice breeze and wonderful views.
