Its not what it used to be during the Glory Days in the 70s. But the center still has lots of great options for dim sum and various Chinese foods. Its open and spacious with lots of parking. You can grab a bite and shop for some vegetables in the same place. If you cant find what you need then all of Chinatown is just a couple of minutes away.

I love shopping at the open markets in the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. I avoid the crowds and not spending time waiting in line at cashiers. The freshness of the local vegetables that are bagged for sanitation reasons. I can also find vegetables not available in the supermarkets. Prices are lower. I call in advance to make sure product are available and will set aside for me. Parking is validated.

A great place for a walk. Also many fine restaurants, convenience stores, cigarettes and liquor. A unique and different cultural experience rich in local history. Great views, plenty of river, trees, and mountain views. A view, or at least a view, to the other part of the world, the Orient. (for those of us Americans from the mainland) Scenic and refreshing! Historic. Quick convenient shopping for most shopping needs. Very pleasent.

First visit at the Chinese Cultural Plaza for the Chinese New Year celebration for 2018. It was very crowded but the atmosphere, its excitement, was contagious. The vendors were great. Miss the parade and the block party they usually hold yearly. So compared to that its a little downgraded on the usual things to see and do. But overall, it was nice.

Very good place but be careful about car break. If you forget to lock your car, trust me it takes only two minutes you will lose all your belongings (personal experience). Try to park on second floor and other side of elevator. Usually more car breaking happened near elevator. Stay safe and be careful.

There are very good Chinese restaurants in the Cultural Plaza. My favorite is Fook Lam on the River St. promenade. And there’s several other excellent restaurants. 4 stars for them.Unfortunately, the parking lot is horrendously slow. The last last time I went it took an hour to get out of the parking lot. The owners should upgrade the equipment. I’m never going through that again. 0 stars for this.

5 levels of parking available upstairs. Make sure to get validation for discounted parking fees good up to 6 hours. I enjoy walking around the airy open courtyard, looking at all the little specialty shops and jewelry knick knack stores. Some shop owners are gruff with stink eye others super friendly. I dont let that bother me. Lots of food places and Ill be reviewing those too. Open market selling fresh veggies and kimchee on mountain side of plaza opposite side of stage. Walk through a dark hall next to shop full of foreign DVDs. Ask for Kathy if you want 5 star friendly service. Kathys mom offer home made style marinated cuttle fish and pickled spicy delicacies. Yummm!

Come early if walking or on public transportation and not familiar with area when there is good security and daylight for the best possible experience. If youre looking to feel deep sense of melancholy and the abandonment of all hope, this is the place for you.Viewing Chinatown through the lens is to see a pilgrimage of misery from all the darkest corners of life, and what new life springs from its cracks are sure to be trapped within, in a cage of fear and apprehensionVisitors beware... she is medusas trapping gaze that you cannot will yourself away from. You may look upon her grotesque pagodas and decrepit mildewed finishes... marvel at the stacks of ancient airconditioning units precariously situated one one top of the other.. you may look upon her shiny treasures of bootleg steven chow dvds and plastic luck totems with wonder- but there in the reflection looking back at you trapped in time, you will see the dragging on of your remaining days-Tethered to a cursed drag of 3 square miles doomed to gamble penniless on college walk and nuuanu Avenue for the rest of your life among the squatting and dismal.

The Cultural Plaza is fine for restaurants and a few small businesses, and it has a devotional Buddhist statue, but most of the time thats about it. Its much more lively (and ceowded) on festival days -- at which time its worth 4 1/2 stars. Legend and Tai Pan are good for dim sum, and Regal Bakery has excellent doughnuts (and other baked goods) and bubble tea. There are also a couple of nice produce markets and seafood stores at the far end.If you drive to Chinatown, the Cultural Plazas parking structure is very convenient. Make sure to get your parking slip validated! If you exit the Cultural Plaza toward River St. youll find a statue of Sun Yat-sen, and there are typically groups of older Chinese men playing mahjong or something at tables along the river.
