Awesome special needs program

I would like to give a 5 star from my personal experiences as a child , BUT after yesterday I was very disappointed.. havent gone since I had my own kids who are 3 and 1 , so I called to check on how to go about taking the kids into go swimming for their first time at this facility. I was informed of the life jacket policy and general pricing and said we would be on our way very happily. Kids were super happy just to be disappointed, not being able to swim and play like I had promised ( going by what the lady told me on the phone) . We showed up about an hour later to get turned around as there was a swim meet going on . Would have been great to know as getting two kids 3 and 1 together and dressed for swimming to have their hearts broke and mine as well . Would love to return AGAIN , but be aware your fun day that you had planned out with your little ones may be ruined even if you call ahead of time !

We as a family of 7 , 5 kids and 2 adults find the Holland Aquatic Center amazing. This will be our 3rd year coming here for the kids Spring Break from a bustling and busy school year. I asked what they wanted to do this year and they all wanted to go to the Holland Aquatic Center to swim because they really have a great time there! They love the Water Slide , the Large Pool , ( shooting hoops ) , and the friendly atmosphere. I too as a parent enjoy coming here as well to have fun with the kids. By the end of the day , they are exhausted of all of the fun they had! My question is , and this is from reading most of the Negative comments on here is , if it is such an unpleasant place to be and bring your children and adults too , then why is there so many people there enjoying themselves every time we visited?? It must be a fun place to be when its cold and snowy out right?? I know other people are entitled to their opinions , and I wont knock them down for it either , but man , what a place! What fun! Let the kids enjoy it!! If theyre happy , you should be happy for them!

Great place

This place is fantastic. So many amenities in one. Wish the weight room was a little bit more up to date with free weights but se la vi. They have one big lap pool split into different sections. An indoor water park for the kids. A hot tub which was much needed after my swim. All in all pretty good.

Terrific pool, uncrowded gym and friendly staff make this affordable public facility a great workout space.

I would like to give them 5 stars Bc we had a great time visiting during spring break and the price was awesome but the people answering the phones shouldn’t be. We drove all the way from another city over an a hour and half away and they didn’t have open swim. We called two different days before bringing 15 people there and we were told they were open. Then the next day when we called back the person was basically like oh well. My kids still wanted to go back and when I called to get summer hours the lady said it was 12-3 but the website says different. She was apparently to busy to talk and I wish the hours were clear and it was opened longer for people traveling to enjoy the facility. So I’m not sure about revisiting Bc I have no idea when your open.

The large amount of negative reviews are accurate. The Holland aquatic center could be great if it didnt have such poorly chosen and restrictive hours of operation, which result in bad customer service. Our issues are with toddler swim being offered only a few days a week at hours that arent remotely toddler friendly (10-12 and 6-8pm?!) and the front desk says hours are largely planned around high school life guard schedules. Its unfortunate that such a potentially wonderful public facility is so limited by poor scheduling and staffing. Not to mention the website is terrible and determining hours that different parts of the pool are open is nearly impossible from a modern day phone or tablet.

We wish we could make this review higher on behalf of the fun and professional swim instructor who worked with our four-year-old child at the Holland Aquatic Center. Unfortunately, much of our positive experience was ruined with one interaction with a separate staff member who shouldn’t be near children. While waiting on our swim instructor on the instructional side of the building, we began to gather swim “noodles” that our son has used during his lessons since his first one. I was within one foot of our son encouraging him to gather the ones he normally uses so that he was ready for when his instructor arrived. We were the only two on that side of the center (separate from play area), and someone inside the instructional staffs’ office on this side of the building was calling our instructor to tell them we arrived. Within about one minute of being near the swim toys, a woman threw open the door from this office area and began scolding our son for being there and for gathering noodles. My hand was on our son’s arm at this time. I was always within one foot of him because I’m not an idiot, love my son, and want him feeling safe and secure while we wait. While this woman used her “role” as an adult or staff member to try to wield her “power” and shame our son for preparing for his lesson, there was no confusion as to who this child was with or that this child was not alone. We literally were the only ones on that side waiting. I was with him with my hand on him and one foot away. My face was at his level encouraging him to grab the noodles. This woman began scolding him like he was less than a dog and as though he (a four-year-old with his mother right beside him) should know better. Her “shaming” tone was angry, dominating, and entirely inappropriate for a child to hear. Not once did she look at me to determine if it was okay for her to say a word, let alone scold my child. My guess is she didn’t look at me because she knew she would sound absolutely ridiculous talking to an adult that way. Let me make this clear for anyone considering this Aquatic Center and for the staff members who work there: no child deserves to be talked to like she talked to my son, no matter the age and whether or not a parent is present. Do better for our children. My four year old had never heard anyone speak so angrily directly at him. He didn’t understand nor should any child have to try to understand. I spoke with a couple of people about who this woman was and her name may be Anita. I plan to call management about the incident tomorrow.

Disappointing the hot tub does not allow kids and most things require swim test and not just allow kids to have life jacket. Kids did have fun on what they were allowed to do.

We would not rent a room for a birthday party again. Great swimming and fun place but event planning is so strict, not customer service oriented. You had to have a person at all times in the lobby to hand out wrist bands (but then youre not in the room helping with the party). Only one shirt/swimming comp for birthday child (sorry twins! one doesnt count). Strict exact to the minute entry to room (even with NO ONE ELSE around or using the room before or after). They are not event- customer party focused. Probably good for swim clubs though.

Terrible experience. I’m new to the area and I’m scouting fitness centers for my family and I. I saw the aquatic center online and it looked very similar to the Center we had been using so I called to get some info and find out if I can get a day pass. They said I could get a day pass and it would be seven dollars. When I showed up at the Center they immediately asked me if I was a Holland resident to Which I Replied “yes very recently” so they asked me if my Holland address is on my license. Of course it wasn’t yet so they refused me a day pass. It just would’ve been nice to of been informed of all the documentation needed to acquire a day pass when I specifically called to inquire about a day pass.I won’t be returning.

This place is a joke!!! Im 40 years old and they would not let me jump off the diving boards without passing a test. Really!! I dont recommend this place there better spots with less rules.

We were very disappointed in the decision to charge non-participating bystanders full admission price. If we hadnt already promised our grandkids they could swim, we would have left. Your website says nothing about this and we feel it should be made known so people are prepared. We wont be back.

Soon as my friend walked in with me we could tell it was a good pool a big slid swim testing it was awesome a whirl pool was my fav and the slid I go on Saturdays and Sundays

We drove for over half an hour to enjoy the inflatable climbing features in the pool that are shown on the website. But the inflatables shown on the website are only out 3 or 4 times a year.Otherwise, the pool has one waterslide and a kiddie play area, both of which are not very different from features at the YMCAs in Grand Rapids, which we can visit anytime with our Y membership without the additional cost and additional drive. They should not advertise the inflatables on their website without stating clearly that they are only available on rare occasions.My children did have fun in the vortex pool and liked using the diving boards.

2017 Michigan Classic meet

Very fun, the only thing is you have to check on there website which activities are open when because the zipline is only open on Friday and wensday. Things like this are tricky, so i would suggest check and seeing whats open and what you want to do first. All of the activities are great and love there new obstacle corse.

Water is quite chilly in both kids pool area and adult lap swim pool! The kids are shivering and had blue lips with in minutes. Should have a warming area for small kids.
