This place is excellent, but one star less because we have to pay to get through the gate to get to the preserve. I think $9 per car is not that bad but the fee is just to get to the whole area so it is a little confusing. The preserve is very big and nice and quiet. We saw a bird got stuck on a tree, and someone helped called the number on the brochure, who said they will come and rescue it. Hope the bird is saved

We enjoyed walking on the trails with our 5 year old. He loves wild life and hoped to see an alligator. He was not disappointed. Not only did we see three alligators at and in the lake, but we also spotted several turtles and birds. One bird even let us get up close and watch him fish. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

Beautiful spot that is well maintained. Took a couple of hours to walk around about half of the trails. Trails are not wheelchair friendly but are clear and flat. Boardwalks bring you close to the landscape. Dog friendly. The coastal landscape is really captivating with the abundance of life, water, and twisted trees dripping with Spanish moss. We saw a lot of wildlife here - water moccasin, cranes, huge freshwater turtles , alligators, owls, osprey and anhinga.

Very beautiful and peaceful! We went when it was raining and some of the dirt paths were pretty muddy (the paths leading to the boardwalk), but not too bad and definitely worth the price it cost to enter the community (which is up to $8 now)... Plus you get access to Habour Town. We also visited the shell ring which was smaller than I expected but an amazing feeling to know how long the shells had been placed there and to think back to the natives living in the area!

Lots of parking once you pay to get into the housing association. Very easy walk around the park and lots of maps to grab at the trail head to take so you dont get lost. There was one section that was pretty muddy but only about 20 feet of it. Lots of birds and some turtles in the water.

The Forest Preserve is a non-commercial jewel of Sea Pines. Unknown to the common visitor, the Sea Pines preserve includes Riding trails, dirt roads lead to a magical place called fish island. Adorned by a large field of Spring Flowers, Marys Lake and the pavilion make an unforgettable setting for outdoor, memorable parties. Fishing dock with catch and release, its a peaceful, natural oasis like no other.

Its a shame more of Hilton Head wasnt preserved and developed with more conservation in mind. This preserve in the islands first development is a true treat. Easy nature walk to do with kids will let you spot an array of wildlife. One of our favorite spots on the island.

We have been to this fantastic nature preserve dozens of times in every season of the year. Even in the dead of winter it is beautiful. Very quiet, peaceful and serene. We were there 2 hours and saw hardly anyone. We did sed lots of brilliant bluebirds. It was too cold for the alligators and turtles but we saw plenty of birds. If this is youf first visit it is an educational experience to read the exhibits to learn the history of the land, from the Indian inhabitants to the rice fields and plantations. Find out about the wildlife and plants. The boardwalk is wonderful. A great place to take kids! One of my favorite times of th ed year is spring when the wildflower fields are blooming.Mskr sure you see the shell rings. Few are in existence today.

I am from Kentucky on vacation. Took my wife and 4 year old. It was fabulous if you like the outdoors or just want to take a nice walk. There looks to be about 3 or 4 miles of trails or so, estimate from hand map. We only went about 1/2 mile because my daughter was getting tired. Saw two small alligators from the beginning of the trial that had a boardwalk. Only 4 feet and 2 feet. Very safe. Dont pass on this experience, so worth it. Was great for my family.

What a gem on Hilton Head! If you need a place to relax and just enjoy nature this is the spot. Great places to look at plants, and two small lakes as well. If you look real close at the lakes you might even see an alligator. There is also a Native American shell circle. You can bike some of it, walk all of it and one trail right down the middle allows cars. The preserve has a great history too. Oh best part it’s free, but leave a donation:)

You do have to pay $8 to enter this reserve even though there are things other than trail that you may want to do. If you want to to the dolphin tour or visit the lighthouse and cant do them all in one day, there is that charge every day. That being said, the trails are beautiful. We went another day to climb to the top of the lighthouse and it was remarkable. Saw the sunset from there. There is also the pier where you can walk out to see the sunset or just enjoy the view. This is where you can do the dolphin cruise tour.

Lovely spot for an island hiking adventure. We adored the mostly shaded walking trails throughout the preserve. Enjoy a variation of habitats from marshes and bogs to open fields with wildflowers. Such an awesome place to identify plants and spot different animals. Avid birders will love this spot! Highly recommend, worth going alone or with a group and easily navigable. Bring water!

If you want a chance to get out and walk, and see what Hilton Head Island looked like before all the development of homes and commercial real estate, visit this location. We walked around a couple of hours and loved our experience. We saw beautiful trees, heard many different birds, and saw bodies of water. The path was easy to navigate and signs were displayed often enough we didnt get lost. Our alligator hunt was in vain, but we still felt like it was time well spent. Hilton Head is a beautiful island and it has many different trees, plants, and ither forms of wild life to enjoy while strolling in there home.

If you like the feeling of being processed, this place is for you! Fees for everything and an overpriced community boasting amazing features for a pretty average time. Entry by car only you’ve got to pay $8 - if you have a bike it’s an extra $1 per bike. Not the end of the world but “give me a break you petty thing” kind of feeling all over the place.Amazing scenery but drivers are up your rear end so you can’t really take it in as residents and businesses get annoyed when you do the speed limit. As a New Yorker it was a bit of a challenge to keep my middle finger tucked away for the ride.I’d say you wouldn’t be missing a thing if you didn’t come here and may have better memories of this island as being laid back and enjoyable.-definitely a snobby community designed to put you off and make you feel like slighted.
