Interesting ruins with some signs documenting what are you are looking at. Maybe a 20 minute stop. Good example of tabby. No charge, a little bit of parking. Bring the bug spray.

Very eye opening to read up on the history of the area. There was a number of trails in and around the area that were also open to hiking. Short 10 minute bike ride from Harbour Town lighthouse

Very interesting place, right smack in the middle of a neighborhood. The signage tells the story of what was here and how it was made. Beautiful surrounding area - its hard to imagine it as all cleared and as a working plantation. Id recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in the area. Theres a small walk uphill with wooden steps set in the ground, so its not exactly disability friendly.

A historic place that would be a great break from the beach. Something to do with kids of all ages to learn a little more about the island history and the plantations.

Really just something cool set back in the woods. Being that you’d have to pay at the sea pines gate only go here if you’re already there for the day for something else.

Tucked away on a little hill in the middle of the Harbour Town sits a house constructed almost 300 years ago! An old plantation now in ruins it reminds visitors of a time when things from construction practices to social commutes were much different then they are today. Spend a few minutes and appreciate the beautiful space, ruins and of course the trees

Hidden away in Sea Pines, this is a historical landmark. Its neat to see the foundation walls and how this plantation was laid out back in the day. Also a nice break from a bike ride to walk around and explore. Beautiful landscape and trees surrounding on a high point on Hilton Head Island.

Well worth the stop. Dont worry about the walk... Less than 5 min to get to the site. Or bored kids. Theyll get a reality-check on farm living quarters on an island back in the early days of the U.S. Especially how small a space was allocated to an entire family when HGTV has us all convinced every floor and bedroom requires its own spa bathroom. :-) Great but brief historical moment to imagine what daily life would have been like.

Baynard Ruins are tucked back in the trees. Stone perimeter of the big house and slave houses. You can see how small there houses were. It’s free and worth the short walk to see it.

Very unique place to visit on the islands history. Was a lot cooler and more interesting than I would have thought. The use of oyster shells in their structural engineering found from old indian sites is my favorite fun fact! Slavery was a disgrace this country will never shed, and seeing the housing size of the slaves and number per unit was sickening. Me and my 5 pretty little girls were glad we went, and learned alot!

This isn’t a large or fancy historical site. It gives you the right amount of information and understanding that it has been as preserved as it could have been over the last century. It is interesting. I wouldn’t make a trip specifically for this site, however, we were there and so was it. Win-win.

Pretty much what you expect for ruins. A bit smaller in scale than most places youd visit but cool none the less and make the entry fee more worth while.

You Dont need a guide, or an historical scholar to understand what your looking at when you arrive here. Take your time, explore the entire property. Read each of the informative plaques. Theres a lot to be learned at this place. Im glad I came. Im even more blessed that I have friends who know that I would want to absorb this kind of knowledge.

Ch
Review №70

Stoney Baynard ruins was an interesting place built almost completely out of oyster shell cement. There isnt much left except the foundations, but it is easily accessible and doesnt cost to visit.

Jo
Review №71

Not much here, its interesting, but you pay a lot to drive by a bunch of multi million dollar summerhouses to see a couple of foundations. Not something I would do again.

Ca
Review №72

Interesting ruins buried in the neighborhoods of Hilton Head. Never made here before, had a few minutes to check it out. Only a corner of the first floor remains, its large bricks dwarfing the rest of the ruins. A slave house, or rather, the bottom of what was a slavehouse, sits down the hill. Past that is another, and finally the kitchen chimney. Check it out, but bring bug spray. Free.

This is a unique short stop during your Hilton Head vacation. Very cool...i love imagining what it once looked like!

Fr
Review №82

Its more like a small neighborhood park with maybe a combined 100ft of walking trails. I could see a gift shop on this property and maybe some more history to read up on the local area. The lighthouse down the street had tons (newpaper articles, historical artifacts and such) but people kept pushing past there. It would be nicer in the quiet setting of this park to have all the historical stuff to read where theres not a ton of people. Be a good place to bring a blanket and have a picnic. Oh, they should add some picnic tables ;)
