Such a gem! Literally. Fans from 3 to 103+ will enjoy seeing the rocks, gems, minerals and fossils. Your guide will bring you back in time through the geological eras telling fascinating stories and facts. Enter the curtained room where they will change the lighting to reveal the hidden properties of various minerals.Move on to the historical wing where you will see colonial tools and the remaining jail cell from when this building was the town hall and jail. Definitely worth a trip!

The Greatest Place on Long Island

This place is awesome both from an earth science / geology perspective (tons of specimens, fossils and dinosaur bones), but also has a lot of historical information and displays regarding Long Islands development over the centuries. Our guide, Paul, was a great guy who clearly knew his stuff but, more importantly, loved it and loved teaching to my 9 year old (and myself as well). Thanks Paul & Co.!

Took my nephew for a fossil event. It was an up close and hands on experience about making a fossil copy from a cast. Then photos and fossils from a exploration we’re shown. It was very interesting and the presenter had such knowledge and passion. It was a great time. As for the museum, there are a lot of interesting pieces packed into a somewhat small but very comfortable space.

What a wonderful little museum! Was looking for something in the area to kill a couple of hours and so glad we went and checked this place out--wish we had more time! There is SO MUCH to see here and it was so well organized and displayed. We were also given a wonderful tour that was so informative and interesting. I cant wait to come back with my new real camera to take some photos of all of the beautiful rocks, crystals and minerals! (Spur of the moment cellphone pics just wont cut it for me-- doesnt do their beauty justice lol!) Thank you again for a wonderful experience!

Its a local gem (pun intended). It has a little something for everyone. If geology is your thing the museum has one of the largest collections of rocks and minerals on the island. If paleontology is your thing there is an amazing variety of specimens, including some rarities. If biology interests you the collection of lepidoptera is perfect. Last but not least the local history of Hicksville and Levittown are on display.

The museum is located inside a historical Courthouse in Hicksville NY. It is small but packed with many fascinating artifacts.I was a bit disappointed to discover that some of the bigger artifacts were in fact reproductions. The walls are lined with beautiful wooden and glass showcases with plenty of lighting. Every artifact has its own information card naming the item and where it came from.It also retained , as part of the old courthouse, one of the actual jailcells that were used during its time. The museum curator and his assistant are chock full of information. Maybe too much information. They walked us around and gave detailed information on many of the bigger points of interest. However they monopolized our visit and continued to talk long after it seemed acceptable for them to do so.I would have prefered a brief overview and then being allowed to wander at our leisure. All in all if you can see yourself past that there are some really nice things to see here.

I have never had a more immersive museum experience in my life. The Hicksville Gregory Museum has an incredible collection presented with the humility and intimacy that only a small town museum can provide. As soon as we walked into the door we were greeted and guided through every room of the museum. The curators detailed description of even the most mundane artifacts settled us into a intellectual cradle we had not experienced since the days of science fairs, Bill Nye, and field trips to the observatory. Engaging, curious, and passionate, our guide knew how to teach. The jaded, post-graduates we were melted away to reveal a couple of nerdy kids who would have loved come back to this museum every weekend.
