This is just a beautiful facility with so much natural lighting. The exhibits are well designed. As a mother of young children, I especially appreciate the multiple opportunities to respond to and create art throughout the museum. I cant believe its free!

This is a really cool place! For my first time going I really enjoy myself and so did my family! The aquarium was our favorite by far. We got the chance to touch some of the sea animals.

As of 23 Oct 19, there was certainly a nice mix of art you would expect from a local free art museum and some stuff that will make you scratch your head and look twice. An awesome way to spend a couple of hours on a free afternoon.

Attended our 5th Girl Scout event at the art museum. Ginny Zelmer does a fantastic job with the girls. Its always a great time!

The Hickory Museum of Art is an excellent museum in a small city. It has a great collection of contemporary southern folk art, which is on permanent display. It also has several changing exhibits throughout the year that appeal to visitors of all ages. Admission is free, and so is parking.

Wonderful place to experience culture and art from around the world. Also local artist exhibits. As well as all kinds of educational interaction.

Great place to visit with the kids. Just enough hands-on, but fun, learning and stimulation. The aquarium was the highlight for us! A well decorated, somewhat unexpected, shark and ray touch tank. We got to pet sting rays! The staff were polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. A really fun trip for us out-of-towners to spend a day in from the cold.

The leadership and employees are extremely knowledgeable and kind! Great exhibits and a wonderful place to visit!

If you are within a few hours of here, you should definitely check this place out. The museum is housed in an amazin and beautifully renovated old school building, with lots to do and see nearby. The exhibits are extremely well put together, and you could spend hours with their folk art collection. This museum is not to be missed. Please take the time to visit, enjoy, and contribute to this donation only museum! I promise youll leave smiling.

Good place for kids or grown ups to do art

This is the only art museum I know of in Hickory, but it’s a great one. They have a lot of folk art pieces, a really cool room of glass sculpture, permanent exhibits, and a couple of exhibits that they update quite quickly, surprisingly. It’s nice to have the Science Center, Library, and Art Museum all in one place, if you have kids you can spend a whole day here if you want. Also, the art museum is free so why not? It’s a must see for any art lover living in Hickory.

Everyone should visit. The museum section is wonderful and quiet and the science center section is great for children and the young at heart.

They have a diverse collection of local stuff. We enjoyed the visit.

The art museum is an awesome experience. They change the art exhibits every few months and its free to visit.A great place to expand you knowledge of art, artists, and technique.

Nicest folk art museum that I have ever seen.

With the ever changing exhibits that the HMA have visitors will always have a reason to come back. Their folk art collection has some breath taking pieces (...and, yes, one or two that look like school projects). The staff is always friendly and the gift shop is a miniature art market that has a wide selection of merch from local artists. If you are in the area I suggest you visit the HMA.

I was here for a childs birthday party so my experience will likely differ from others. However the planned activities were very entertaining for the kids and for the parents participating with them. All in all Id say it was a good deal. Would recommend.

For a local museum this is a nice one. Staff really tries to make people feel welcome and they have a nice variety of local and well known art. Childrens art is featured regularly and they do a great job of giving students a good experience showing their work. The building has been around a long time but is still in great shape and really has a nice feel inside. Check it out you probably wont be disappointed.

Beautiful and well staffed site. The museum is great, the employees are friendly, and at the event I was at they helped us greatly.

The only thing I didnt care for is that there are not really any directions to the different things to see. You have to wander around and hope you find what youre looking for

Visited this place because one of my friends was doing an art show for class. Neat, clean and easy to navigate through.

Awesome great experience! I just hate we missed the show for the planetarium, knowing a group was coming think they shouldve planned for it earlier.
