It was a good 4 mile casual loop trail. Not crowded, even on a holiday weekend. There are no markings/pointers for the petroglyphs so keep your eyes pealed! Kind of made it more fun to have to hunt for them!

Its a super cool hike! Make sure to go with a friend because some of the scrambles can be a little intimidating for inexperienced hikers. You have to keep an eye out for the petroglyphs, but when you do find them they are fascinating! Also enjoy the beautiful silence in this canyon, its really something. :)

Great place to trail run! There are some rocks to climb to get to the Petroglyphs and I would recommend trail shoes or hiking shoes. There isnt any signal in there, so make sure to take screen shots of a map or take one with.

Easy and interesting hike except one 12 ft dryfall that requires a bit climbing. If you go counter clockwise alone the loop, you will be climbing down the dryfall. I am inspired by the drawings on the rock and wonder what happened too the artists during that period of time.

I went there in the afternoon for a walk but it was too late to walk the 4 miles to the Petroglyphs. I had a nice walk. Took some lovely pics of the horizon, but the scenery was dry. I think the Petroglyphs are the main attraction here. Maybe during a different season it might look different. I also understand that to see the Petroglyphs there is some climbing involved.

Hiked the loop on 03/10/20. The trail required level 0.5 bouldering skills. If you ever climbed before, or know the basics, youd be just fine. Had a six year old with me who needed a hand, but she did all right, as well. Petroglyphs were interesting, dont forget to stop by the ranger station for a small exhibit and background info on what you will see.

This has become my favorite hike... Night or day!!Been looking for trails close to Vegas so I dont have to travel to Mt Charleston all the time. This is actually a stunning walk/hike. Very easy and not that long. You still need to park on the street and walk to trail and thats about 1.5miles. Very relaxing and lots of cool lizards and beetles to look at. The rocks and mountain tops are beautiful. I highly recommend. Im walking it now on my 3rd time.

Was an interesting hike.My friend had been before and took Route 100, he decided to take the 200 Route at the split. Would recommend taking the 100 all the way through and bringing the 200 back. 200 was a much tougher climb, all uphill going in, whereas the 100 was fairly easy except for the last big climb. Not something I would do again, but worth the first time experience.

Easy hike with a lot of options. The area is a bunch of hills with washes snaking around them. The geology is interesting to say the least. I think I read it was a gigantic volcano that eroded away over time. The petroglyph gallery is impressive. Its always hard for me to get past this part of the hike because the drawings left by native peoples draw you in. Its worth hiking out just to see this part and go home, and many people do but I like to check out the rest of the area all the way to hidden valley.

Add at least an extra 25 minutes to hike from the road to the actual trailhead/parking lot now. Trail is nicely maintained and marked at regular intervals.

Beautiful adventure for my fiancé and I. Id share my pictures of the petroglyphs but I dont want to spoil it for others! We spotted several on our hike. Nice easy one, and good to get you out of the city for a few short hours. Were not super experienced hikers or too active so it was really just mostly beautiful and peaceful. Just enough climbing to satisfy and have a fun challenge!

Awesome and relatively easy desert hike to a pretty extensive collection of petroglyphs. Not recommended in the heat of summer, but in cooler months or the evening or morning it is great!

Make sure you look for the petroglyphs immediately after the rock scramble... We did the hike and missed them... Then talked to the ranger and went halfway back out just to see them

What a great little hike. Since it being our first time doing the hike, it took us about two hours to take the 100 and then the 200. We played a lot in the petroglyph area so that took up sometime taking photos. If you like to use walking sticks, on the 200 part of the route would be great to use them. Im happy that no dogs are on this Trail! Maybe owners should be better caretakers and clean up after their animals. The gates on the road, to get to the trailhead dont open until 8 a.m. .

An amazing place to see petroglyphs up close and personal. There is a concentration of 50+ petroglyphs at the end of the 100 trail just before it merges with the 200 & 300 trails.

The petroglyph trail is a really nice hike into the mountains, with wonderful views of the mountains to the west and the valley. It starts out flat but in a mile or so you are flanked by steep peaks and rock outcroppings. Small caves appear here and there in the surrounding hills. Rocks are not as tinted as at other nearby parks, but there is an interesting range of color that includes black rocks, white, and burnt red. You can see other colors such as red and green from what i guess is lichen, not far into the hike.I thought the drive out here was a bit complex, and since the city is expanding southward in this area, roads are constantly changing, and gps might get confused. Lots of new construction nearby as I write this in early 2020. We went in the winter, so temperatures were really nice.

It’s very cool to see the petroglyphs, they are very easy to see and almost don’t even see real. The trail is pretty easy, especially depending on what route you take. The people who work there are very nice. Bring lots of water!!! It does get very very hot.

The Sloan Canyon National Conservation one of the most important Native American cultural sites in Southern Nevada, with more than 300 rock art panels and 1,700 individual petroglyphs that were created from the Archaic to historical era. The area itself is composed of over 48,438 acres, with scenery that is filled with beautiful features including the Sloan Volcanic Section compromised by four 13-million-year-old extinct volcanoes with volcanic domes peaking at 5,000 feet in elevation that were formed from viscous lava pushing up through vents and hardening. There are also several waterfalls seasonally along with Petroglyph Canyon that predominantly slices through the Mount Sutor Volcano. To visit, the main entry point is via a paved road and trailhead that starts at the visitor contact station at the end of Nawghaw Poa Road (Paiute language for Bighorn Sheep Road). From the parking lot, you take the Sloan Canyon Trail, a 4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail that begins in a wide wash that is typical of the Mojava Desert and soon gains a canyon feeling as the walls and grade steepen. The wash continues south to a fork in the canyon, and splits with the 100 portion of the trail to the left, and 200 to the right. Following either trail will eventually lead to the main petroglyph gallery since it is a loop.Taking the 200 trail brings you up a significant incline and around a volcanic hill and down into Petroglyph Canyon back down the 100 trail which includes several slippery rock scrambles down waterfalls depending on the season. On reaching the canyon, petroglyph panels become evident, scattered amongst the boulders all over the hillside. According to archaeological surveys, these panels believed to be of Middle Archaic, Late Archaic, Puebloan, and Late Prehistoric eras. Its theorized that the reason for the plethora of rock art within the narrow canyon is the seasonal hunts of bighorn sheep that still roam the canyon to this day. It is thought that during the deserts monsoon season in late July and early August, Native Americans would gather in Sloan Canyon, one of the few places that bighorn sheep could find water in natural tanks after the summer rains. They would build hunting blinds up high in the narrow canyon and wait for sheep to come for water while other members of the tribe would make campand prepare food while the hunters were away.
