This was my first time coming to this park and just fell in love! From the water views you get to the great trails. Such great history here to boot! To see some of the old foundations that still exist and then ti find the cemetery as well. Plenty of space to park and enough trails and places to wander that you dont feel on top of everyone else that has come to enjoy the park as well!

Beautiful Hike, the beach isnt really one anymore its all grown over with grass. Plenty of picnic tables all over, there is a building that says it has restrooms and a changing area not sure of the condition i didnt go inside. Plenty of water all around my dog had fun swimming. Was relatively clean not a lot of trash. Some of the trails are pretty narrow due to them not being used enough and not getting cut back but still enough room for one person to walk thru without having to fight through the brush. Great little maps throughout the trails which is very helpful!

I have been going to Gay City since I can remember. The trails are awesome, you can find whats left of some old structures from when it was a working community. Lots of space for meeting up with friends, parking and so much land and forest to just enjoy.

If youre looking for peace and tranquility this is the place for you, fresh air and trees takes the place of smog and tall buildings and thats why I come here with my wife to get away from the city. (Would recommend to certain people)dont want to ruin for other people that come here looking for the same peace and tranquility

It is definitely better during other seasons then late fall/early winter, but it is still a nice park. The history is funny and cool, but I wish they had information on site more and that they had better maps of the area. Many trails are just secret little paths through the area, which is great if you dont have places to go, but otherwise youll be late as you will be distracted by the beauty and colorful oddities that can be found here.

Disappointing, Although entrance fee is free the park us run down. The grass is growing all over the sand. The sand or beach needs combing because its hard and packed down. The water is murky and dirty. I prefer to pay an entrance fee and see this park kept up. I wont be back until its taken care of.

It was just a normal pond/lake that we always went to until ppl started smoking weed there and there were 3old men having a picnic before they left one came up to us and said its been a pleasure watching your kids play they are so good. After that they put theyre pants on and leave . we were so freaked out we left . i thought It was innocent at first but the morei thought about it i was terrified. If you go be alert its not the parks fault just stay woke ppl have no respect or consideration.

Gay city state park is an excellent way to spend a day. The scenic atmosphere of the park is only further bolstered by the rich history surrounding the little pond. Various house foundations, an old mill and great hiking, fishing and biking areas make this park a wonderful way to spend your off time. Thr park is regularly maintained and the water often checked for safety, more can be found on the parks website.

Nice local park. Plenty of area for a light hike, barbeque or swim. There is tons of parking and a couple of large picnic areas with tables, benches, and charcoal barbeques. Be sure to bring your own charcoal and tools. There is a roped off swimming area and a public restroom. Did not see a lot in the way of open field for sports, but it is a big area park and we may just not have seen it.

Ive been meaning to go here for a while. First off, one of the few state parks that doesnt charge at all for CT residents (even weekends and holidays.) I needed a swim today and in Enfield there are few places to go within reason or without spending $15 to get in. Gay City State Park was perfect considering I didnt want to spend a day at a beach, just wanted 20 or 30 minutes in the water. The lake/pond is freshwater, if youre not from New England and youre not familiar with how water can be unclear, tinted red/brown, etc, its not for you. If your from the area and know that fresh water comes with lack of clarity, its perfect. Warm temps on the surface, cold underneath. We were there just long enough for a quick swim. The picnic areas and trails look interesting, planning on going back soon to hike with the dogs. It is a great little treasure hidden just out of reach of the city areas. Worth a 20 or 30 minute drive if youre coming from north of Hartford/greater Hartford/Manchester/Vernon/Enfield.
