Great local park and wetland preserve. Well maintained and excellent to walk, jog, run or just malinger and take in the views. Please make sure you take out what you bring in. There are plenty of trash cans in the park so no need to litter on the trails. Stay alert for deer.

Whether youre new to the area or have lived here for years. Get in touch with your natural side by walking along a splendid boardwalk through the beautiful wooded area. Amazing greenery all around you, on the ground, covering the old canal way, the pond. Definitely a spot to forget your daily stresses.

Beautiful! We were visiting from NYC and we love walking and exploring new areas. We did the whole park, it was a bit of a challenge because it does have some hills. But we loved it, everything was clean. And we enjoyed looking at the art in the wild exhibits that they had. We also saw a deer, groundhog, turtles, and a water snake.

Awesome park right outside of the Capitol! Ample parking with North, middle, and South lots. Paved path that surrounds central body of water. Abundant wildlife! Popular spot for observing said wildlife. Many marked side trails that wind through the wood. Numerous artistic displays along the paved trail using natural elements. Restroom facilities in parking areas.

A beautiful little nature preserve in Harrisburg! This is a good spot for running, biking, or just getting out to spend a bit of time in nature. There are a few trails off the beaten path as well. Tall timbers is my favorite. There are really cool art pieces throughout as well, and if you’re into geocaching, you may find a few. The boardwalks are pretty cool too! Lots of wildlife and lots to check out! If you’ve never been, I encourage you to go

The paths are clearly marked, flat, and well kept. You can hear the traffic of the nearby highway, but you can ignore it fairly quickly. It does get pretty busy on Saturday mornings. It would be a good place for a easy run.

I will tell you whats need fixed. Put mulch back on the toe path like it was before. With all the fallen trees around the mulch would be free . Clean up all the fallen trees its making the place look like a mess . Yes that would cost money or allow people to take the fallen trees or branches. Ive seen other parks or forests never seen one like wildwood with so much decay. Some paths needs fixed to much water on them. Raise the ground level. Use the rocks around (the water would go thru the rocks again costing you nothing) The boards are not always the answer. They take away from the natural look and are messy and cost money and will disintegrate over time . I dont go down as much as I use too or I would put the rocks down myself. Cant remember paths name but its. .9milies long and most of the issues are near one area . Bob

The path (Towpath Trail) is narrow. However, it passes along Wildwood Lake which is home to foul, fish, frogs, other wildlife and full of water lilies, which were in full bloom when we visited. It was a very hot July day, but the trees along the path provide plenty of shade. Two of the pictures that I have shared are of the bog on the side of the trail opposite the lake.

Awesome place to go for a nature walk. You’ll never believe it’s this close to the city. Deer, huge frogs just some of the wildlife you might catch a glimpse off. Great path to walk your dog on including a watering fountain just for them. We wore out our black lab by the end of the trip around the entire area. They also had some neat artwork around the trail as well.

Great place for walking on their 5k path. There are about 3 or 4 steep hills so be ready for them. They do allow pets and bicycles on the path so be ready to steer clear of them from both directions. Throughout the seasons you can see an array of PA animals and wildlife.

Wildwood Park has walking trails that are paved for easy walking and biking. There are long hills, so be aware of that. Their rougher nature walk along the water is on a slender trail that needs sneakers. We saw more wildlife, including a snake that crossed right in front of us!, on this trail. Wildwoods main building has a little gift shop and a large interactive information center about the park and the wildlife. Very kid orientated, though my husband and I found it interesting too.

A breathe of wilderness in the City. Wildwood is a great area for birdwatching. Migratory birds visit the park throughout the year. There are also many other species of wildlife including reptile (snakes and turtles), amphibians, and mammals including deer. But the highlight is definitely the birdwatching. You can find a very wide variety of birds in the small park.

Not as wild as the name leads to think but a great time for all ages, mostly hardened trail and seemingly stroller accessible (although not attempted myself). The visitor center is great and informative with plenty to read about the history of the park and the items you wondered about whilst hiking. Id recommend to keep the visitor center for last.

This is a lovely park to explore with your loved ones, your kids, or your puppers. The area is teeming with wildlife and ever-varying forms of nature. There is a nice welcome center, benches to have lunch on, and wooden walkways so you can more intimately explore the wetland areas. And for the runners, the pathways are extensive and hilly enough to challenge the most tried of athletes. Definitely worth a few hours of exploration.

This place is a hidden gem. I visited and drove through the Harrisburg area many times, and didnt know about this park. At the main entrance of this park, the restrooms can be found. The parking lot starts at the restroom to the Nature Center. There were people sitting by the meadows on the path next to the parking spaces with binoculars and cameras nature watching. The park has binocular stations throughout the meadows.Because this was a quick stop for me, I walked the entire length of the boardwalk which was about a 2 mile around trip. The boardwalk is located in the meadows. Whats interesting is that there are a lot of cobwebs on the boardwalk. Once not there, on my way back, there was one long string of cobweb. I visited in mid October. The view of the meadows is beautiful and clean. I saw some wildlife. Look around, and search for them, while you walk around.

This is a beautiful park to walk around in and get away from the city. I had gone with HU Environmental Club during their volunteer day! It was a lot of fun and we got to clean so much trash out of the park. They also had little art installations along the trail we had to walk and got to stop and check them out in our way out. Overall this is a fun place to see normally and walk around or to volunteer at. I highly recommend.

Great, big park not far from Harrisburg. There are a variety of trails to try, differing in both length (long, short, looped) and type (paved, boardwalk, dirt/mud). Some trails run you right by the highway but it’s so scenic I didn’t mind. We love that it is dog friendly, and the local art installations/exhibits were a nice touch as we explored. Easily enough paths/miles to warrant a return trip!

Gorgeous place for a walk! Seems like you are out in nature and not in Harrisburg right next to the highway. The track is a 5k, and smooth enough for a run.Consider going with a group or taking self defense tools just because of recent news in the area, that is what my mom told me. So if you can, please do take care of yourself and help others if they need it.

We wanted to get some exercise in the morning and wanted to find a local park. We saw that a number of people were hiking and biking near this park so we decided to give it a try. First of all it is unbelievable to think about a swamp in the middle of Pennsylvania. This is a really unique Park and we have visited a many. There is a Great Loop that goes around the entire swamp. It is a little strenuous at times but very well maintained in easy-to-navigate. You can bike run or hike here. We didnt get a chance to try all the different trails as we were in a little bit of a time crunch. But the wildlife was amazing from cranes to ducks to various other birds. There were a number of photographers who found this location to be a dream. We are looking forward to returning on our next visit. This place is highly recommended. If this review helped you please give it a thanks.

My family hike/bike here 2-3 times in the summer. Its a versatile place. It has hilly paved trails, flat tow paths, dirt trails, and even boardwalks! Bodies of water that you can actually fish sun fish. Theres a nicely done nature center that features many exhibits, a library, and nice indoor bird-viewing area. Its a beautiful place - inside the park, with many themes (lily pond, swamp, lake, overflow well, etc). I cant say its good outside the park as youd see truck and trailer hubs and railroads. In a sense, its truly a gem among the rocks.
