This lighthouse, while in need of some repairs, was a wonderful historical experience. The hike up - multiple staircases with benches to rest - was gorgeous and well worth the effort! Views from the lighthouse were spectacular, even in winter! This is a free, unguided tour with historical placards and cobblestone roads along the way. There is a drive for ADA as well.

Handicapped-accessible parking available off a little road off Cardiff just north of the lighthouse (you can wind your way up Rock St. to get a view, but theres no general parking available in the circle directly below the lighthouse; follow signs from there to find the ADA parking spaces).Otherwise, park down on Main St. and hike up the steps to the top. Cant get inside the lighthouse, but theres still a good view of the town and river from up there.Along the way, theres a remnant of the old Mark Twain Bridge and a small public wildflower garden.

Beautiful views of the river and town of Hannibal. The lighthouse sits on top of Cardiff Hill which was supposed to be a favorite spot for Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and friends. The walk up the steps from the very bottom street which is the north end of Main Street, is strenuous at 244 steps, but there is parking near the top. There is also a rear entrance from Cardiff Hill Drive, which offers handicapped accessible parking. The lighthouse area offers a very panoramic view with photo ops of Hannibal and the Mississippi River. The lighthouse was built in 1935 as a memorial to Mark Twain on his 100th birthday and it is the second to be built on this site. In 1963 a windstorm leveled the old lighthouse and it was rebuilt in 1963.

Hiked up the 244 steps after eating lunch at the Mark Twain Brewery. Whew! Worth the effort nice gardens along the way and a decent view once you get to the top. You only get a window view of the city and rover as the trees are growing in.

A Hannibal icon. There around 240 some steps up to the top, but you can drive up to a parking lot near the top and skip most of the stairs. There is a lot on interesting history connected with the area which you can read about on signs found on the way up the stairs and at the top. The best part of the experience is the view from the top which overlooks Main Street, the River, and Lovers Leap.

The old Light House was removed, and they are in process of reconstructing a new Light House. The outer structure is complete. You can walk up to it from the rear path until the final set of stairs are secure. It was quite the walk. It is also drivable, but what would be the fun in that?

Beautiful view and climbing the 244 steps is a great work out. Dont worry there are areas to stop and rest along the way up. Also for those with mobility issues you can drive up a side rode that takes you to the lighthouse. Behind the lighthouse is a short path that offers a wonderful view of the Illinois side of the Mississippi River and the river itself.

Its an okay attraction. You can climb the stairs from the very bottom and have a bit of a hike. It is free, and the views from above are nice. Hannibal should strongly consider building a platform with stairs so people could reach the height of the top of the lighthouse, as you cannot go inside of it.

The lighthouse offers a great view of downtown Hannibal and the Mississippi River. The climb up the stairs can be pretty harsh from below the statue on Cardiff Hill, so would recommend the road up to this lighthouse off of Mark Twain Avenue for those who would have trouble.
