I am writing this review to let tourist/explorers know that this exhibit is now closed off to the public due to an incident that happened a couple months ago! I tried to visit it today but it was all fenced up.. :/ you cant even walk around the fence since it is all barricaded now! But I am so glad I got to explore it last summer when it was still open to the public.

The USS Ling is a treasure that should be preserved and protected. Its part of American history our younger generations need to know . A loss of connection to our history causes a loss of respect. This is a widespread issue among young folks.By keeping our history alive, the warriors who fought those battles for us stay alive.I hope the US Navy takes the leap forward and saves this artifact.

A true treasure. I mean that. Those of you who are interested in history know the value of this place. The museum is run by those with a real passion and respect for the Ling. Theyre kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about preserving history.Im sure if youre reading this, youve probably heard about the site being threatened by developers. As of this writing, the Ling is still there, and while the site may not be open, its still quite visible from the parking lot next door.I implore you not to trespass (for obvious reasons) but do admire the Ling from a respectable distance. It is truly a sight to behold, and an important part of our nations history.

To the individuals who stole the bronze plaques and flooded the sub you belong in FEDERAL PRISON FOR 20 YEARS. To to the Navy the USS ling is your property still. I want to save it and many out there dont want to see it destroyed ... GIVE US THE ABILITY TO SAVE OUR HISTORY.....The military has the ability to keep it in NJ move it from its resting place and place it at Sandy Hook they even have the space to do it... I will put in 20 years to begin restoration for free# SaveUSSILNG

My Grand Daughter and I visited the USS Ling many times during the 90s and she was fascinated by this antique war machine. The museum had so many interesting items in it and its a shame they have let it deteriorate to the point it is now. History means nothing to the politicians of today.

I first visited the Ling about a week after it opened to the public.During the tour as we were about to leave the control room I asked the guide how deep the channel was. He said it was 38 in the middle but the side of the sub near the shore was touching the bottom in about 20 of water. I had noticed that none of the vent valves had saftey locks on them, so I said to him if I were to start pulling on these levers after the tour moves to the torpedo room, the sub would roll over and flood , right? The guide looked at the levers and said oh my god, your right! I will get someone on that before we have another tour. As we left the sub he took me aside and said how glad he was that I noticed the condition of the vent controls. He said in the rush and confusion to get the sub ready for tours it must have gotten overlooked. Those levers are usually secured in port or when the crew are not present. I remembered that experience when I last saw the ling and was sorry to see her in her present state. She needs a drydock now, but it is unlikely to happen . No one in America cares about history , and the schools and libraries discourage it.5/15/2018 I can see from Google maps that she has been brought back close to the riverbank and had her ballast tanks pumped up with air because the last time I visited her 2 years ago she was in the middle of the river and listing slightly low in the water. There is too much mud in the river to relocate her and developers want the land next to her dock so basically she is homeless and the mueseum is broke.

I went to see the Ling as it is rumored that the new owners plan to develop the property that is it on. The old museum is closed and all of the accompanying vessels, with the exception of a couple old torpedos and a missile, were removed from the site ~ presumably by the Navy as they are the owners of the ships. The USS Ling however is stuck in the mud and the river that brought it to the site is no longer deep enough to extricate it and allow it to be moved it to another location. The ramp that was built to allow tourist onto its deck and inside was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy.... Plus the money would be crazy expensive. So there the USS Ling sits, awaiting her fate.

I say 4 stars because I like the submarine and the insie but the only problem is that it’s stuck in the mud and it has taken on water but the hurricane that came through damaged the submarine and there is not enough money to repair it and get it out and it’s to tall to get under bridges so let’s donate to keep this ship alive people!.
