An excellent regional history museum. It is clean and well organized. Well presented exhibits and acknowledgement of the native people to the area and the complicated relationship with the European settlers. Frank look at the African American experience and slavery. The Piedmont Blues area of the permanent exhibit is a hidden gem of information. It is such a well done highlight of the area’s music history and local greats. It’d be nice to see some of the albums of those artists for sale in the gift shop, like Mac Arnold. Highly recommend all his albums. I’m presently savoring each track of Backbone and Gristle. A track on which Arnold explains his gas can guitar history and plays the song on one. Amazing.A temporary exhibit on climate change was eye opening. There were hands on aspects to it and ways to see how we impact the environment. Another element of the exhibit was an informative student documentary about the native peoples of Alaska, and the climate impact on their communities. One other exhibit highlighted Alice in Wonderland. There were set design models, wardrobe pieces, and a look at some original illustrations from the original work by Carroll. One could compare these to those of the recently passed artist Daniel Santore, who’s work I personally love. There are some other artists’ interpretations of the fable. Well curated. An item of note, the cobblestones that make up the walk outside were the historic ones moved form downtown Greenville

I always enjoy coming to this museum. The price is very reasonable. They are always changing and sometimes they are interactive. This time there was something for the kids and for the adults. Vietnam War photos upstairs and fairy tales downstairs with dress up clothes and each story had something to do for the kids.

$10 dollars for an adult, $9 for a senior. We stopped in on our way through Greenville and were beyond impressed. From the layout, to how detailed the information on everything was: its worth the money. Youll spend anywhere from one hour to two here, and if you love history youll walk away thoroughly impressed! From B.C. dated Native Americans to the wars, and Pepsi, this museum is packed with every you want to know about Greenville and the surrounding area.At the time of our stop, they also had two other exhibitions open. Thomas the Tank engine and Alice in Wonderland. Hope to stop back in a few months when Im passing through again to see whats new.

This museum is awesome for those seeking an insight into the history of the upstate SC, we really enjoyed all the exhibits, interactive setups, stories and just the way everything is displayed and made accessible and interesting. It tells you about the history of South Carolina from the establishment of the colony and their interaction with the local tribes, through the Revolutionary War, the Civil War to modern days. They even have a history of PEPSI exhibit with a timeline and (not sure if its permanent of temporary) and an auditorium for shows every couple of hours.Awesome! Really glad we went!

Not much in terms of exhibits/artifacts. I understand the museum is state of the art and is aesthetically wonderful, but for a museum to be a museum I expect more than words on a placard, museum artifacts are few and far between

I was thoroughly impressed with the showcase of history and especially the history of Greenville, that this museum has displayed. I was visiting the showcases of materials on display of the memorabilia from the 5 Black High Schools that were closed 50 years ago, when Intergration was forced upon the Greenville County School District.

Visited here with my children. Very nice really love the way the building is laid out - with reproductions of the facades of important buildings of the area. I enjoyed the World War I exhibit (although I’m from NC, two of my relatives - one great-grandfather and one great-uncle) were at Camp Wadsworth. My children enjoyed the textiles exhibit as well as the Peanuts exhibit.

Though the staff was friendly, I cannot recommend this museum based on the experience I had today. Many of the exhibits were lackluster, which would have been alright if everything was functioning. However, many of the buttons for Interactivity in the museum were not functioning. The one thing the kids seemed to enjoy (the stretch out experience in the textiles area) was missing pegs. The dinosaur area was clearly geared for younger kids (the 10 and 11 year old were amused for a moment, but it passed quickly.)Mostly, we paid 40 bucks for two kids and three adults to read a few plaques. Stretching it out, we were there for an hour... The kids were largely bored, as even the facts being taught are stuff theyve already learned most of in school already. It wasnt worth it, in our familys opinion.

Small intimate museum, but had high quality displays. When I went, there were Ansel Adams and Dr Seuss exhibits that showcased unique, not often seen works, esp of Adams, whom I am a big fan. All of the local history displays were nicely done, but some of the information is debatable if you grew up here. Overall a cool place to go if there is an exhibit that piques your interest.

Absolutely the best place ever for Upstate History!!! The building and decor are lovely. The photos, displays, and summaries are authentic and informative. The gift shop is unobtrusive and not a requirement in order to access the museum. How professional and nice compared to most places!!Pricing is very reasonable. There will always be at least two traveling displays here, usually from The Smithsonian Institution. These are always wonderful. However, this museum can stand alone on its own merit regardless of the extra presentations.

Let me begin on a good note. The staff was very friendly. Now for the rest. For the money its not worth it. An hour viewing exhibits that were broken or missing pieces. My 9 year old daughter didnt have fun at the 3-10 year old recommended dino exhibit. That was suppose to be interactive. It was minimal interaction at best.I was so disappointed. It was a bunch of plaque reading of facts my kids had learned in school. My daughter was so disappointed. She wanted to go for her birthday and it sucked according to her.

Very dissapointed. Especially for the costs. Limited exhibits, maybe with the lack of history for the city my expectations were too high having visited some of the countries most excellent museums.
