Really enjoyed the exhibit and had a wonderful conversation with the gentlemen working the gallery. A new must visit on every trip to Greenville

In January of 2018 Southeast Center for photography will be moving, so check their website for the new address. The current place is a nice Gallery set up, with plenty of window light and great photographs on exhibit. There are lectures and guest speakers too and all of this will continue in their new expanded space in Greenville South Carolina. If you havent been to Greenville its a great place for shopping, eating and sightseeing.

If you are reading reviews cause you are thinking about applying for their yearly contests. DONT!!!!! SAVE YOURE MONEY AND TIME! SEC4 is in the business of taking money away from unknown photographers. PAY FOR POSSIBLE PLAY isnt worth it! I paid $35 dollars and got a lousy email which didnt address my rejection from the contest. I somehow need to read a compile list of names and figure it out. How cold is that for $35 dollars which could have been spent on a better service. Whats more SAD is that they expected me to become a member after this lack of respect . As if I willing to promote wealthy galleries in order to take advantage of the poorest people in our society, the amateur photographer. End PAY FOR POSSIBLE PLAY I think photographers deserve a little bit more respect and dignity.

If youre an artist reading this, you need to seriously ignore the comment about SEC4P taking your money. If youre not familiar with how these types of exhibitions go, then I could understand your confusion. Their comment is based on lack of knowledge. As a tip, juried exhibitions are up to the guest juror, not the gallery. The gallery also only has so much space and typically only allows 35-40 pieces to be hung per show. If your artwork was not accepted, its not because they took your money and ran with it, its because they cant show everyone.Just because you pay a gallerys entry fee for a guest juror to view your work, that does not mean youre instantly included or that the gallery is obligated to exhibit your work. $30-$45 is very typical of an exhibition application fee. This does not mean youre instantly in the exhibition.Regarding the e-mails they send out, if youre expecting a personalized and warm rejection letter then youre sadly mistaken. Galleries arent obligated to even send artists rejection letters but some do. They dont have time to tell each of the hundreds of artists who apply each month why their work was not accepted. Some galleries do offer artists to pay extra to get feedback from the juror, but not many.I can tell you why your work was not accepted, though.1. Only roughly 35 images can be selected and they found 35 images that were technically better than yours.2. Images for a show must flow well together, if yours didnt flow well, it will be tossed. Even if youre a wonderful photographer.3. Its didnt meet the requirements. Either your artwork didnt meet the theme requirements or you didnt submit your application properly. Galleries all have very specific entry guidelines. If you cant follow simple instructions then you shouldnt be included.4. It just wasnt good enough. There are many artists who apply for exhibitions with wonderful courage but their work isnt quiet gallery ready. Thats okay, keep honing your skill and become better. Youll get the exhibitions eventually. No, I dont work for SEC4P but I have exhibited many times with them and in other galleries that have the same business model. Its common and how it goes. As for the gallery itself, they have wonderful monthly exhibitions that highlight a wide range of photographers varying in different skills and technique. There arent many galleries out there who appreciate this wide range of photography, so keep them in your pocket to visit because their shows are beautiful. Hope you learned something with my review. Good luck!
