I was not aware of Greendale village until my friend who I was traveling with told me about it. It’s a National Historic Landmark District designed in the 1930s as part of a New Deal program to establish so-called greenbelt towns as model suburbs, and is one of three such communities built by the federal government. The other two are in Ohio and Maryland.
Very cute and cozy! Small Town feel. Plenty of parking nearby and lots of shops to stop in!Downtown Greendale was originally designed to resemble a New England village. Greendale has attempted to maintain this appearance in their shops (of course the shops are modern). It has been suggested that Greendale is the type of village Norman Rockwell would have painted.
Awesome information!
