Great museum.and tour. Highly recommend for anyone in the Phoenix or Tucson area.-2because we arrived 5min before the scheduled tour that we PRE-PAID for and were told that the tour already started?!? They knew that we were signed up for the tour and started it anyways without us, even though we still arrived on time. Therefore we had to wait another 60min for the next tour. Though its not a huge deal, I was amazed at the poor decision making of the folks that lead this museum. Why would you start a tour early when you know that more people are coming?

Another fantastic museum with an actual Titan II missile inside although no longer operable. You must be capable of handling many stairs and if you are tall be prepared to duck a lot! There is a special demonstration at the bottom of the silo after climbing down but I will leave that for your visit. Amazing facts are presented by the guide and there is a small museum and gift shop on the surface as well as several outdoor items to be viewed with the guide. They do a nice job!

I myself was a Titan II crew member in 1982 and 1983, and actually served duty at that particular missile site, and I can tell you that everything is identical down to the last detail of how the Titan II program was exactly. The Titan II missile museum is a must see for any military or history enthusiast. It played a critical role in the Cold war as a weapon of deterrence. The missile complex has been preserved to be exactly as it was during its 20 years of active duty. The gift shop and display building is fantastic. The tour guide that we had was an actual Titan II crew member and his tour was impeccable in its authenticity and accuracy. It is a piece of world history, and more importantly American history, and I think it should be seen by everyone. It is a great family activity and it is exceptionally informative and interesting.

Such an amazing part of history. It was a great visit and the staff were all nice.I was slightly concerned for the group size for the tours given the current state of the world (I think our group had 15+ people and theres a portion of the tour in tight quarters). I dont know if this will change but they do require masks and provide gloves for the tour as you will head down a set of stairs.

A Unique and very interesting experience. The tour guides were great and so informative. We took kids ranging 7-13. The guides actually worked back when it was in commission so it was cool to hear the day to day stories. My kids enjoyed learning about it. Going down into the sites and seeing the Missile was fascinating. Also, looking down 103 feet into the Missile well was something we will never forget. The cost is $10 for kids $12 and up 13.95$ for adults.

I thought this was a great example of how a cold war museum should be made. The history of the site was just a small part of the very important Cold War history that is so fantastically told here. Every member of the family, from Grandpa who may have served in the military back then to the grade school children who thinking this is ancient history, should see this museum. Its a tribute to those that conceived and carried out MAD!

Very interesting and historic. I went as a kid years ago but took my 10 and 6 year old recently. Young kids may get a bit bored with the 20 minute video about the Cold War to start the tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable but a bit dry. As a kid I recall the tour guide being a bit more animated. Guess it depends who you get. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys history or that grew up during the Cold War. FYI, if you are over 6ft tall you are required to wear a hardhat during the underground portion of the tour.

A unique look back to Cold War history is found at this unique museum. Inexpensive your will show you the inside of the underground control bunker and missile solo, with a decommissioned missile in there. A Titan II is a lot bigger than I thought! I will go for 5 stars. It is the only complete and surviving Titan 2 missile silo (the rest were demolished) and it presents a very important part of cold war history. Just seeing the 1960s technology and how it clearly was money no object on defence funding back then.Sadly you dont see a lot of the complex on the regular tour, but other longer tours are also offered.Definitely worth a visit if you are in SW USA, but if you are more than average interested in tech and/or history, book one of the longer tours.

Very interesting but chilling at the same time. Enjoyed the science and engineering that went into the site design, which Dave (who was awesome, keep up the good work!) did a great job explaining to us. You need to check this place out! Its like a frozen capsule of how things were in height of the cold war.The silo staff was very informative and provided great information on how this former secret missile silo was operated ranging from surface security to everyday life of those stationed, to command prep/readiness and the historical importance behind it.The missile is there (warheads removed) and the height of it is breathtakingly tall. Touching tour to a somewhat unreal place. Its so strange to know that this missile was meant to destroy places in Europe or Russia widely. And there were more missiles like this. First note is: I thought it was worth it but.... The tour starts with a neat 17 minute (almost a third of the hour tour) and is immediately proceeded by the guide giving you ten minutes of the exact information you just watched. So I admit I was a little frustrated by that. You then (30 to 35 minutes later) move to the actually subterranean structure. Kind of cool but you only get to see the control center (one of a few levels)... Lots of good information given here too. The silo itself is cool but its really just a single area with some windows and then the tour is done. You get to wonder around top and see some the surface antennas and a window down through the launch structure. All in all the tour was fine but man could this thing be cooler (in my mind anyways) I get that they are trying to preserve the history. The place was definitely well kept. Looked like I was back in the 70s seeing it during its operational phase. Summary: the your is really just 10 minutes of information (they talk themselves in circles).

The Titan Missile Museum is a fun day trip to take if youre in the Tucson area. Only a 30-40 minute drive, for a reasonable price, you get an hour guided tour of the missile facility. Seeing an actual nuclear weapons platform is awe inspiring. The lobby gives you good background of the era, and history leading up to the development of the Titan II Missile.I recently took my 5 year old son. I was thrilled to visit the Museum. I’ve heard a lot about the Titan Missile program including reading a great book called Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety by Eric Schlosser. The museum is very professional as are the volunteers that run the tours. I would have given the place 5 stars but I felt we were being rushed through the tour. I would rather have paid double and been allowed to see more for longer.I asked some innocuous questions and felt like I had offended the guide. If you are not allowed to ask about the Damascus Accident or the SAC in the 60’s then they should probably tell you that before the tour.

Very interpretive! 10.50 for adults. Takes a few hours for the tour. Computing power of the computers that launch that missle was only 17 kilobytes. The underground facilities consist of a three-level Launch Control Center, the eight level silo containing the missile and its related equipment, and the connecting structures of cableways (access tunnels), blast locks, and the access portal and equipment elevator. The complex was built of steel reinforced concrete with walls as much as 8-foot-thick (2.4 m) in some areas, and a number of 3-ton blast doors sealed the various areas from the surface and each other. The top level of the silo permits viewing the silo missile doors. Level 3 houses a large diesel generator. Level 7 provides access to the lowest part of the launch duct. The Titan Missile Museum is an eerie and chilling walk through time. That the launch control center looks like a sci--fi movie set from the 1950s almost belies its deadliness. Billed as a nuclear deterrent (good luck proving that it wasnt needed), a staggering sum was spent on this missile program. Still most of the descriptions are surprisingly even-handed without the unquestioning rah-rah patriotism of most war histories.

The Titan Missile Museum, also known as Air Force Facility Missile Site 8 or as Titan II ICBM Site 571-7, is a former ICBM missile site located at 1580 West Duval Mine Road, Sahuarita, Arizona in the United States. It is located about 40 km (25 mi) south of Tucson on I-19. It is now a museum run by the nonprofit Arizona Aerospace Foundation and includes an inert Titan II intercontinental ballistic missile in the silo, as well as the original launch facilities. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1994. It is the only surviving Titan II complex to survive from the late Cold War period. Visitors on the Beyond the Blast Doors tour are allowed to stand directly underneath the missile. Level 8, at 140 ft (43 m) underground, houses the propellant pumps. The 103-foot (31 m) Titan II missile inside the silo has neither warhead nor fuel, allowing it to be safely displayed to visitors. In accordance with a US/USSR agreement, the silo doors are permanently blocked from opening more than half way. The dummy reentry vehicle mounted on the missile has a prominent hole cut in it to prove it is inert. All of the support facilities at the site remain intact, complete with all of their original equipment. The silo became operational in 1963 and was deactivated in 1984 as part of President Reagans policy (announced in 1981) of decommissioning the Titan II missiles as part of a weapon systems modernization program. All operational Titan II silos throughout the country were demolished, including 18 sites around McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas, 17 sites near Little Rock AFB, Arkansas (one additional site previously damaged beyond repair in a mishap/non-nuclear explosion) and 17 other sites by Davis-Monthan AFB and Tucson with the exception of this one. It is now a National Historic Landmark. A visitor center for the site features a gift shop, a small museum and guided tours of the site. The museum is intended to put the Titan II within the context of the Cold War. Paid tours are available for hire, offering education about the history of the Titan II site and program, as well as a closer look at many features of the complex. Relics include hardstands for fuel storage containers and the associated control vehicles, restored engines from a Titan II missile, and a re-entry vehicle. Tours below ground may include the control room, the cableways (tunnels), the silo, antenna tower and more. More information can be found and reservations may be made via the museum web site. Several times each month a more extensive top to bottom tour is available. This tour takes up to 5 hours and accommodates a maximum of six people. Prior reservations required. The top-to-bottom tour is not handicapped accessible. Several scenes in the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact were shot at the site. The missile itself was depicted as the launch vehicle for the films Phoenix spacecraft, the first warp prototype.

Half an hour south of Tucson, Arizona, is the exceptional Titan Missile Museum, a National Historic Landmark. During the Cold War, the Titan II ICBM was the cornerstone of national deterrence, with each of the 52 missiles carrying a 9 megaton warhead. All missiles were decomissioned and destroyed following the SALT negotiations with Soviet Union, with the exception of this one. The silo, underground facility, and missile (without warhead) are on exhibit to warn us of the dangers and threat of nuclear war. In the photos you can see enormous springs which are shock absorbers to keep the facility and launch platform relatively stable in the event of a nuclear detonation. In such an event there is enough food for 30 days, plus oxygen for 1 day. So eat all you want.
