Retracting my old review because the NEW owners Benjamin and Donovan are completely opposite from the previous owners. Truly making a difference in the West Michigan community even during this horrible Covid-19 crisis. Wishing them success making a difference helping one cheerleader at a time in our community.

The coaching here is extraordinary. And if you think competitive cheer is just for girls, drop in and check the tumbling, base and flyer skills of some of these boys! I wish you could hear my son on the way home from practice each night. It has been so long since weve seen his confidence and enthusiasm for sport. And it isnt just one thing that is bringing him back to life. Its the small things: kids excited to see him enter the gym, how the coaches call him Bud when things are relaxed and by his name when its time to go to work, that everyone is so nice, that people noticed his new shoes, that he feels heard, and I could go on forever. It is vastly different from where he came. He is smiling when he goes to practice, smiling in practice (as evidenced by the sass he was showing on insta) and smiling when he goes home. What an answer to prayer for us. Thank you, Michigan Cheer Co., for supporting our family. You have our support 10000%!

Cheer Co of Michigan is the best! I had 2 five year old girls join this past fall for the half year team and they had a blast! The coaches were so sweet and taught my girls a lot about teamwork, stunting, tumbling and flexibility. The owners Josh and Laura Chapman always demonstrated kindness, professionalism and fairness to all their athletes. They go above and beyond to make everyone feel like family! I am so grateful for the whole Cheer Co staff they made my girls first cheer experience amazing!

This gym is the perfect balance of work hard and play hard. The owners are nothing but professionals, who also make you feel like family the second you walk in the door. They care about safety, technique, and getting results. Yes, they expect equal effort from the athletes but there is no easy way to get better at something then practicing, and practicing it the CORRECT way. The owner, Laura Chapman, is a gifted, creative, and sought after choreographer. I appreciate the work everyone at the gym does to create an environment that is rigorous for the serious athletes, and still welcoming for the athletes of all ability levels.

This is the most amazing competitive cheer I have been to with my girls... they have learn so much more in the month they have been here than any where else... the staff is beyond helpful and very welcoming along with all the other parents. I highly recommend cheer co to anyone that’s thinking about starting their kids in competitive cheer... I say this because my girl did competitive cheer and tumbling at a different place, and I tell you what they have learn twice as much and train harder then they have ever before. Cheer mom for life and highly highly recommend coming here!!!

My daughter really wanted to join an All-Star Gym, so we visited this past spring when they were holding tryouts. I was handed a several page packet labeled registration agreement to fill out and turn in. Because I am the wife of an attorney, I make it a habit to never sign any kind of paperwork that looks binding or like it is written in contract form without having my husband review it first. After reviewing the paperwork that they had pushed us to sign while at the gym, my husband was very concerned. 1. It is, in fact, written with the intention of being a binding contract. 2. The family is required to pay the tuition and all fees (which are very high) for the entire season in their entirety if they choose to leave the gym, which I understand, but there is no clause for extenuating circumstances (long term illness of child, job loss of parent, relocation of family out of area etc.) 3. In addition, there were several fees in the contract that were very general and not specified if a child does leave that the establishment would tack on. I for one would like to know exactly what they are used for and why they are necessary. 4. The thing that gave my husband the most concern, however, was the clause stating that we were to make no negative comments about the establishment on social media for one full year after leaving as a customer. Along with the above stated issues, he saw this as a HUGE red flag and something that any business that provided good customer service would never need to add to an expectation let alone a contract. Make no mistake, this is a contract as written. We chose not to join this gym because of these concerning issues with their contract and chose another gym instead. I only decided to write this review because I wanted to make sure others were aware before they signed the paperwork- please have an attorney review it before hand.

My daughter has been a part of Cheer Company of Michigan since May. She walked in with zero confidence as an athlete and a flyer. Within 10 minutes they had my daughter feeling safe and confident to do stunts shes never done before. In the amount of time since weve called this gym home, i have seen my daughter transform into an amazing athlete and team player. The coaches are personal, loving, and knowledgeable. They work one on one if needed, and always ALWAYS have the athletes in mind. I have never been more proud to walk into a set of doors than I am to walk into Cheer Co. My daughter loves every second spent here and i look forward to many many years with this gym.

As a former gym owner, I had the privilege of watching 2 teams from this gym compete at the WSF competition in Louisville, KY. When I tell you the way this gym carried themselves not only on the floor but also around the competition was nothing but exemplary. This gym is relatively new within the Cheer industry but has already been listed as one of the top gyms in the nation. Of course you will have some growing pains as well as learning lessons as no gym is perfect. But if you are looking for something top notch and professional this is the gym for you!

I attended an open gym with my daughter who was wanting to join an all star cheer team. We were with a neighbor who was a current athlete at the gym at the time. The coach couldnt be bothered to answer my questions as her twins were occupying all of her time. She shoved some paperwork at me and disappeared. I chatted with the mother of the athlete who had invited us and asked if she could help with my questions. I wanted to know which of the Full, Limited or Recreational options the coach recommended for an athlete of my daughter age and experience. The current athletes mom had me go into the gym with her to try and get my questions answered. The twin girls were running around where athletes were trying to stumble and stunt and the coach was in the corner on her phone. I left to run an errand and returned 20 minutes later to find the gym empty and to discover my daughter and the other athletes walking barefoot through the parking lot and grass looking for a turtle that had escaped. We left pretty quickly after that. I asked my daughter if the coach had worked with her at all and she said that she had not, but she had stunted with some of the other athletes. I felt that the entire situation was unorganized and honestly completely unsafe! I attended an open gym at a neighboring facility the next day and had a completely different experience. The coach was more than happy to answer my questions and spent significant time with my daughter to evaluate her skills and made recommendations off of that. Im so glad a parent at CCM told me about the neighboring facility as I was leaving.

There are many reasons why I would not ever recommend this facility. My experience goes back to Lansing, when they were under a different name. They relocated and renamed themselves because too many people in Lansing knew their true colors. Their business practices are less than desirable....telling parents and athletes negative stuff about other parents and athletes, letting people know who doesnt pay their bills on time. That is highly unprofessional. The way they treat athletes is very negative. When you sign a contract for a season, they think you are bound for life. If you give an honest review of your experience, they threaten you with their attorney even long after your contract is up. Current parents will say its dumb to wait, but it is extremely intelligent. If you are outside of your season contract, you have freedom of speech by law and can say whatever you want, but they still threaten you. There is a Why Us on their current website. All the things it lists that a good gym does not do, they have done. For instance, their winning teams Superstition and Wicked were full of level 3 and 4 and 5 athletes and they were level 1 and 2 teams. When they receive negative reviews, they say please remove this baseless review. Welcome a negative review and grow from it if you are a good company. Apologize, reach out, make it right with people. Thats how you grow. Then theres the way they treat the athletes. It can be horrible at times. Belittling them and making them lose confidence in themselves goes way against their mission statement of a safe, positive, fun learning environment. They accuse athletes of lying about their injuries because they dont want to take responsibility for them being hurt. The list goes on, but you get the idea. They try to get athletes with concussions to still perform because in their medical expertise, the drs are exaggerating their reports. What do they know?Whats funny about the positive reviews.....several are family and gym owners disguised as patrons.Edited to add: while photos provide proof of athletes being on multiple teams, we wouldnt consider posting them because we prefer to protect the athletes. Multiple teaming isnt against any rules, its just silly to lie and say you dont or havent done it when you know you have and so do the athletes. Other gyms across the nation do it, so why make it sound like youre special and dont?

Our experience here had its ups and downs. The coaching style is based on hard work , dedication and winning. Hard work= lots of practice, lots of yelling, lots of demeaning comments to “motivate” , swearing, bullying and belittling the athletes.Dedication= you put practice and competitions first in your life. That means before school (band concerts, choir concerts, prom...) before family (vacations, church, funerals ) before any other sport , or activity. You even come if you are sick. We had kids at practice and competitions with the flu, mono, lice ... You must sign a contract that you agree to keep paying tuition for the full year and pay a $500 liquidation fee and a $150 re-choreography fee if you quit. The contract and code of conduct is lengthy, make sure you agree with ALL OF IT before you sign it. That is scary in my opinion and very expensive. Winning= yes the teams do well in competitions and they do sometimes win. However, my child’s team won the US Finals National Championship, which was wonderful, but out of the 18 athletes on that team 11 of them decided to leave the program the following year. That leaves a red flag and says it all. Winning is nice but not as important as being treated with kindness and respect and maybe a thank you for your hard work and dedication, sadly this was not said after their wins. I would not recommend this gym. All Star Cheer/Competitive Cheer is a fantastic and fast growing sport. There are lots of other great programs in our area to choose from.

My daughter has been enrolled in the recreational program for the past two sessions. We absolutely LOVE it here. You cannot beat the price or the quality, I’ve been apart of other programs in the area and it’s a joke. You get what you pay for, athlete to instructor ratio here is about a 7-1 where other programs there’s 20 plus students to one coach. It’s very hands on, my daughter is always working very hard never standing around in lines. Staff is very kind and professional, educated, and has extensive knowledge in the sport. I would not recommend any other program in Grand Rapids, they’re filled with drama mammas that participate in vile horrible gossip (as you can see they leave reviews under fake accounts) and coaches that are very young with little to no experience. Trust me I’ve participated in other programs. At Cheer Co. the results, technique, trophies, banners and awards speak for themselves here. I give my highest recommendation to this program.

Great experience at CCM. The coaches are tough. They expect good work ethic and dedication. That is why the teams are competitive. There is a healthy mix of team-bonding, fun and hard work. The owners and staff are knowledgeable, informative and good communicators. The families are friendly and welcoming.

This is my daughters third year in this gym, we would not change a thing. She has learned hard work and discipline really does pay off. When you get to the full travel competitive teams, it is competitive. The coaches are going to push you to your limits. Thats their job, to make you push yourself to be your best. Yes, you may get frustrated , hard work is frustrating . Yes, theyre hard on you when you make a mistake and again thats their job, you probably wont make that mistake again. The things your child will take from this experience is hard work, commitment, discipline he/she will take with them for the rest of their lives. Oh yeah, did I mention the great group of friends you will make. Bonding over something you love will make friendships that last a lifetime. Cheer Company of Michigan was the best decision we made.

I find it abhorrent that any parent who did not join this program to leave a rating of one star. How can you rate a program in which you never participated? How can you leave a one star rating based on the language of a contract in which you never signed; therefore, were never bound? The bottom line is this is a stellar program that is having its reputation slandered and liabled by few parents who made the decision to NOT participate in said program. To the mother who claimed her husband was an attorney and had concerns over the language in a contract; may I suggest you ask your husband about the ramifications of making defamatory statements against an organization based upon a contract to which you were never bound. I say this as an actual attorney and not the alleged spouse of an attorney. Any parent looking to have their child participate in an all star program, I implore you do look to the vast number of 5 star ratings this program has been given by actual parents of atheletes rather than those of the parents who have never experienced the privilege of working with the coaches and the outcome of the hard work put in by all.

Ok well lets just start by saying i know nothing about cheer. What i do know is that this gym is my daughters second family. They have not only helped her with her tumbling goals but more importantly her self confidences has improved. My daughter walked into the gym the first time shy and her head down. Now she walks out with self confidences and pride. Could not ask for more.

My daughter has been with CCM since the first year they opened in Grand Rapids. We have had the most amazing experience. The coaches have taught her so much athletically it’s hard to imagine. From no being able to do a cartwheel she can now do handsprings, tucks and all with a smile. Outside of the amazing athleticism she has gained she has leaned about hard work and determination. what it means to win and how to overcome a loss. How to pick up her teammates and rely on them when she needs to. She has an injury this season and the coaches have worked so hard keeping her involved motivated and positive. They have checked in on her constantly. Love the owners and how hard working and passionate they are about their sport and their athletes. What an amazing experience on and off the mat. Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Thanks CCM!

I have been with cheerco before it has even opened and I can say it’s one of the safest places to learn how to be a great team player, new skill also make great friends that last forever. And I’m not just saying that bc I coach there, I have cheered under the owner and I wouldn’t want anyone else coaching me to where I am now. With out this gym I’d probably still be this shy kid who never talked, I’m glad to have the experience I did with this program.
