The trail at Lions Den is great for those who want to get outdoors but arent necessarily up for a strenuous hike. The grounds are well maintained and offer stunning views of Lake Michigan. The trail itself is minimally challenging and is mostly handicap accessible. The preserve does tend to get busy during the weekends, so plan your day accordingly. You should note that there is no indoor plumbing at the facility - only outhouses - and there is limited parking on-site, so you may need to park on the street just outside the preserve. I highly recommend this hike for even the average nature enthusiast.

Absolutely stunning gem of a find in the winter for a stroll along the bluffs. Benches every few stops so you can sit. Reflect and take in the lake.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful and picturesque hikes in the area. Be prepared for a great hike and even better memories. The stairs at the turn around can be demanding for some so take precautions but is well worth your effort to go down them. Enjoy!

Beautiful place, really nice hiking trails and walk down to a serene beach. Tends to get crowded sometimes even over crowded and hard to find parking. Some trails are narrow. Beautiful views of the lake from up high. Hard to believe such vistas exist in the Midwest.

Beautiful natural area with nice walking paths that are accessible to all. The only reason it has four stars is because the small beach gets extremely crowded and congested. So this is not a place youd want to visit now as people are not courteous of the six foot distance. The trails were typically clear and they had both a force trail and a grassland in which was a harder paved trail. The beach area was about a mile walk from the entrance of the park.from what I saw the only way to get onto the beach was a stair path.I would recommend and I hope to go back when everything is more under wraps so I can enjoy the beach area better.

A beautiful hike with rocky beach at the end. The hike is pretty short and flat. The trees and plants are gorgeous. The view off the bluffs is fantastic. If you want private beach time, just walk further down. It is a little buggy, but the wind near the bluffs helps. Bug repellent suggested if you dont like mosquitoe bites. Still worth 5 bug bites. There are benches and picnic tables for a quick bite to eat.

WOW! I cant believe Ive never been here! Really great place to hike. Im sure on its busiest days its fairly packed, but even with parking virtually full there was enough room-to-roam and we really didnt share the trails with other people. You can go down to the shores of lake Michigan and dip your feet in, or throw a ball with friends or your fur babies. Needless to say... Well be going back

Beautiful spot with great trails that are well marked. Much is accessible, too. Infrastructure to support lake access is considerable. High water levels reduced the width of the beach, but the water is clear and very cool.During COVID, it was tricky at times to adequately distance on the beach stairway -- very high foot traffic. Loved seeing all the children. Dogs were uniformly leashed. Wish the owners were similarly masked.

This was an excellent place to visit. I had an incredibly enjoyable experience. Trails were well maintained. Snap a photo of the map towards the beginning as there arent any other maps that I found once you get into the trail system. Not too crowded. Great vistas of Lake Michigan and steps leading down that offer resting spots on your way back up.

Hidden gem on the coast. Nice well kept trails and great views from the bluffs. Well maintained long stairway down to a narrow rocky shoreline. Fairly steep dropoff to deep water. No swimmers in sight.. mostly people looking and taking pictures. Parking can be a challenge during peak times.

This place was absolutely gorgeous! It is like you are stepping into a paradise! Breathtaking views. So, it was our first time going and we noticed a lot of people parking on the side of the road. When you see the sign to enter, continue driving, there’s a good chance there is available parking closer to the main path.Upon entry, follow the signs to the bluffs. The view is beautiful not far down the path. It is wheelchair friendly on parts of the trails so you can still get a breathtaking view without going all the way down to the beach. Please be warned there is poison ivy on the sides of the path! Do not leave the path!To get down to the beach(which is Stoney) you will have to go down quite a few stairs so be prepared.I can’t recommend this place enough! Soooo beautiful!

Love this park however every since COVID began, it is way too crowded here at times. I was here this past weekend and someone was literally waiting for me to move out of the spot I was in so they could go there. So annoying and not relaxing at all. Someone needs to be at the entrance to limit how many people are in the park at one time.

I dont get here as often as I used to, but its worth coming during all 4 seasons. Take a walk out on the pier into the swamp area and just sit. After a while your eyes will adjust to the area ans you will see hundreds of frogs in their own little biome thriving away. Its worth taking the stairs down to lake Michigan and certainly worth it when the water id down. You can see the lighthouse from Port Washington from the beach. Although those stairs arent for those with wonky knees.

Views are absolutely amazing. Wonderful place to walk with family and friends! Also have noticed many, many couples come here for nicer, quieter walks. There are bunches of paths to take, vistas to pause at, and even some tricky descending stairs leading to a peaceful view of Lake Michigan. Make sure to take some water, though - its a long walk!! And you might want bug spray and sunscreen; it gets very sunny in some places!

There for the first time August 5 - but not the last! - 2020. The parking lot was completely full and people were parked along the sides. Like many I thought oh no. But there were many times when my daughter and I could see no one else in sight. If you get off the main Lions Den trail such solitude is easier to find. I was amazed at how beautifully kept the trails were and how sturdy all the bridges and walkways were. Frequent benches to sit. It was lovely.

Very nice views of the lake from atop the cliffs. Plenty of walking trails. Beach access as well. The beach is rocky not sandy. The water is good for swimming, nice sandy bottom. This park gets very busy very quickly on the weekend and even weekdays during the late afternoon and evening. Parking spots get filled up quickly but parking on the road is mostly permitted

Nice to visit if you’re in the area and you like exploring. If you’re short on time, it’s a quarter-mile walk to the lake overlook area, which is a top feature of the area.If you have plenty of time and hiking shoes, there are miles of trails that are mostly inland surrounded by trees and parts that skirt the shoreline bluff. There’s only one staircase down to the water, and it’s a mile or so walk to get to.Parking is plentiful, there were 3 port a potties on site but weren’t in great shape.

Beautiful place to hike. If I didnt know that I was by Lake Michigan, I would have thought it was an ocean due to the beautiful colors and sand. There were plenty of trails with access to the bluffs (to see the lake) along with a set of stairs to safely access the beach. I would recommend to families and couples, as it is a great place to explore but not too rigorous.

Absolutely beautiful and worth the trip. The trail to the beach stairs is handicap accessible however once you hit the stairs it no longer is. If you have little ones you can take your stroller as far as the stairs which will save you a lot of hassle for most of the hIke out to the beach. Once you go down the stairs the beach is right there. The picnic area is off from the parking a little ways so I suggest if youre packing a lunch to picnic put it in something smaller and easy to carry.

Beautiful nature preserve. The views are spectacular, so much so that I might have been looking at an ocean, rather than Lake Michigan. Theres a spot at the gorge where people can get their feet wet, but its NOT a full, public beach. The trails are well kept and I didnt see much garbage along the way. Im glad for that. Its annoying when people litter, of course, but especially so in a natural environment.

Fantastic trails and views of Lake Michigan. Stairs down to the beach. Picnic areas. Well maintained paths wide enough for strollers or those walking their pups. Port a Potties at the beginning of the trails so go before you set off on your adventure or youll be looking for a leaf! Another tip, there isnt a whole lotta beach once you get down there so plan on hiking down the shore a bit to get away from everyone else on a busy weekend. Also, the stairs are at the far end of the park so plan on a hike before descending the well built stairs down to the beach. If you bring your dog plan on carrying your poop bags as there arent many trash receptacles along the paths. Last time we went we ran into lots of dog walkers and a wide range of people of all ages all the way up to a gentleman in his eighties. Great fun and exercise! Highly recommended for all.
