Great live shows on line during the Shelter at Home time. Incredibly talented actors! Thank you so much for taking the extra effort to give us our fix of live theatre!

Just watched the production of It’s A Wonderful Life... cast was excellent and multi-talented! And, yes, I was crying at the end... just like every time I watch the movie! Thanks Oil Lamp Theater, and cast, for an unforgettable and unexpected treat!

I had a terrific experience seeing Its a Wonderful Life here last night! The space is unique, with an adorable lobby/bar area where they put out m&ms, nuts, and cookies for each show. They also provided hot chocolate for this show. The theater itself is intimate, which makes for neat connections between audience and cast. The cast of Its a Wonderful Life made my night! I was particularly impressed by their facial expressions and the variety of character voices, as well as the sound effect technician who can do so much with her props and voice! I highly recommend this show and Oil Lamp for a cozy night of live entertainment.

When I arrived, there was a man out front in a top hat greeting theatergoers like myself. A person greeted me at the door to ask my name, and had my ticket ready to go, also explaining that they had complimentary chocolate chip cookies, cashews and m&ms at the bar. I believe you could order wine, but I didnt look into it, so it might also have been a byob agreement; either way, there were definitely people with beer and wine. I got a seat in the very back, which was on a cushioned and comfortable high stool, and probably one of the best seats actually. The back row is actually only 10 rows back, and the theater is about five seats across, so a small, intimate setting. The play was excellent, and I enjoyed the entire experience. During intermission, which was about 10 minutes, many people lined up for the bathroom (I think there was maybe only one) and I went for a refill of cashews and m&ms to enjoy during the second half of the show. Id love to see another play here.

Great community Theater - in the heart of Glenview. We have seen several shows there and the most recent Dining Room lived up to our expectations. This show is 18 vignetts all set in the dining room. The cast did a wonderful job changing roles throughout the play. The theater is small and cozy, but that adds to the ambiance. We have also seen other plays like the wonderful Father of the Bride, Bleacher Bums and who could forget Sylvia

Excellent little theater. Seats perhaps 75 people. Looks like a cross between a bar and a living room when you walk in, and was probably a cafe/bar/restaurant in its previous life.Clean and well maintained. Saw Murder on the Nile, and it was outstanding. Good actors, costumes, scenery. Would recommend and hope to return. My only issue is that it is a bit hard to find, but perhaps it is my GPS, which kept taking me to the back of the theater into a dark alley. The theater is actually on Glenview Road, with a parking lot attached, or can be accessed via the sidewalk. There is also street parking available.

Really like this small, comfy theatre. We saw Dont Dress for Dinner, and the performance was marvelous. But this review is about the facility more than any one production. The people are friendly and accommodating. Ambience abounds throughout the welcoming lobby, with small yet pleasing touches of complimentary homemade cookies,M & Ms and cashews. BYO wine without any corkage is an added plus.My favorite small theatre.

I am a big lover of the theater; but had never been to the Oil Lamp. Its a beautiful space. The Lobby is decorated early 20th century. Take your wine (there is no corkage fee) and enjoy the chocolate chip cookies, candies and nuts before going to the show and at intermission. The stage is small and the actors very every inch of it. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening.

Great, local theater right here in Glenview! Fun place to shake things up for your night out. Small intimate theater that I believe sits about 60 people or so. I saw their Red Hot Lovers production and I’m looking forward to going back. They also have bottle service with no corking fee. I appreciated the student ticket price as well ($20).

Gorgeous venue. Has the feel of a boutique, a classy bar, and a Victorian living room all rolled up into one. The drive from the city is well worth it to see a quality theatrical production. We saw The Odd Couple (female version). The stage is an unconventional black box that was dressed the resemble a 2 bedroom. 2 floor home in a residential building. The POV of the audience being as though we were in the farthest side of the room, allowing us to see the show in layers from front to back. It genuinely gave the space a three dimensional feel and the fact that none of the actors every upstaged each other was fascinating and awesome to watch. Not to mention, you cant go too wrong with producing this show, but the female version was phenomenally more entertaining and empowering. The theater is BYOB and theres a couple of dives nearby you can hit up before taking your seats.

Very nice theater. Free parking and BOYB, what more could you ask for. The lobby is comfy and homey and there is a bar with cookies and M&Ms. The lobby feels intimate, like someones home. The theater itself is in an oblong room. The seats are six across with big letters to denote the rows. There are six seats in each row. Rows are kind of close to each other...you cant walk pass folks in comfortably. The performance we went to see was A Love Affair by Jerry Mayer. It was an interesting play about a 38 year marriage, funny and serious, with two sets of actors playing the older and younger version of the couple. The actors and actresses were very good, drawing me into the story. Not sure if all of the performances are this good, but I would be willing to go back here to see another performance. It was nice to see a live performance with bubbles and not spend an arm and a leg. Adult Tickets are $35 and Student Tickets are $20. You can buy tickets online.

The venue is delightful.....its more like going to a fancy, intimate bar (BYOB), having a drink and some provided snacks, and then stepping into a small theater to enjoy a well-presented play. The extended family and I will be back for the next play, for sure. Highly recommended.

This small, cozy, professional theater is utterly unique! Located in downtown Glenview, you walk into a comfy, old fashioned living room. You are greeted, introduced, and treated to candy, cookies, and hot apple cider. If you bring wine or other beverage, its opened and served to you free of charge. You kind of wonder - wheres the theater? Well, just through a side door, theres a 60-seat theater (no bad seats in this place), and stage. The play (a pulitzer-prize winner) was terrific, thanks to the perfectly cast professional actors and director. At intermission, you go into the living room lobby for a short (5 minute) break - enough time to grab a drink for the next act, a cookie and some candy - but not too long. Ive never felt so welcomed in a theater before! In fact, we came back to see the play the next day! (and theres a parking lot right next door). Come and see - you wont regret it!Now, its a year since I wrote this review - and its gotten BETTER!!! Please dont miss this theater, or its terrific shows. Most recent I saw (last night) was Murderers - a dark comedy, not to be missed. I havent missed a show at this theater since I discovered it. Besides the professional theater, it is a warm and welcoming place.
