We needed a new thing to do for Date Night (the 3rd week of June 2020) and stumbled upon Taste of the Strand. Karen and her partner were so friendly, informative and treated us like family. The restaurants we visited were lively and the food and cocktails were top notch. We had a great time! Thank you all. Tamera and Vense, Dallas

This tour is AWESOME! My wife and I had a blast. Karen was very knowledgeable about the history of Galveston and the local food scene. I had never done a food tour but I would highly recommend going on this one. My wife and I will definitely be joining Karen again!

We had an amazing time on our tour! Karen was wonderful and even met us in the rain! She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in making sure we had an outstanding time. I am so glad I opted in to have her take pictures for us. It made it easy for us to enjoy and she made sure to capture everything. She sent us all the photos very quickly and even made a slideshow with them for us! And the FOOD! Oh my gosh the FOOD! There was so much that my husband and I finally had to call it quits before it was done because we just couldnt eat any more! This was SO WORTH IT and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

We do food tours in each city we visit. This one, by far, has been one of our favorites. Karen and Vernon took us to amazing places we would have never found on our own. Our group was small enough that we were able to interact with some of the locals to learn about their businesses. The food portions were generous. Along the way we were also introduced to a bit of Galveston history which we found very interesting. We are planning a trip back to Galveston next year and are looking forward to taking another tour with them. Thanks to you both for an awesome tour!

I enjoyed the tour, even though this is my home town. I booked a few weeks ago to celebrate a milestone birthday with a close family friend, and three of us went on the Saturday evening tour. The mix of restaurants downtown was nice- upscale, moderate, and eclectic. All but two were places I frequently enjoy. I think the choices are great for out of Towners to experience the dining diversity Galveston offers. The tour also included some bits of interesting history and lore I didnt know. Karen was a great hostess and she even brought a VALET Midway in the evening to carry our purchases along the way . Be prepared- this is a long evening and a lot of walking but we had the tour to ourselves so we stopped and rested when necessary. Theres a LOT of food to eat in each stop. You will be taking a doggie bag home!

I can’t wait to do this tour again! I bought this to tour for my friend for her birthday and we had so much fun! There is so much food! I was expecting little bites at each place, instead the portions were huge and we needed to go boxes. The tour guides were great! We learned a lot of history and fun facts.

My husband and I took this “tour” during our recent vacation in Galveston. It was fun, the food was quite tasty, the tour guides seemed to enjoy what they were doing and for a chilly December friday night we had a good time! The tour guides, a mother and son team, were full of Galveston history, they do tend to stress the ghost mystery side of Galveston, but they also give lots of tidbits of the history of Galveston. Loving Galveston like I do, the ghosts and paranormal stories were not a surprise. I have done my own research and reading so I was aware of much they shared. They did sit and just watch us eat most times but obviously they are paying for the tour guests to eat, not themselves. I would recommend this tour for anybody that doesnt mind the walking because it seems to be worth the money. Hopefully Taste of Strand has found a nice niche that they will expand on as they grow with new tours. We will definitely look at them for a fun evening on our next Galveston vacation.

We start at one end of The Strand and sample mostly all of the restaurants from Pier 21 along The Strand to the other end, 23 st. to Mechanic Row, Tremont house Rooftop Bar. We talk about the mysteries of the Island along the tour and we explore some neet fun shops while giving the large variety of food time to digest. This tour is very fun & informative. I recommend if your wanting to drink, the evening tour is the best because they dont rush you with no other tour following behind you & the final stop is the party hub of the Island making transition plans easy for when the tour is finished. Great fun time!

I debated whether to write a review at all. However, I really think others need to uunderstand the experience for which they are paying. The food at most places is very good and you get a nice portion. You will not be hungry. The hosts/owners, a mother and son team, are very nice. There was a raffle for a gift card at the chocolate shop. It that is all you expect, then you will enjoy the tour. I expect a bit more, having been on any number of food tours. The most important thing to me, almost equal to the food (but not quite) is to get a sense of the place. I like to know a bit of history from the guide. What makes the place special? I didn’t expect the emphasis on the paranormal to be that special thing. My family checked out after that came up and stopped listening to the guides. Their credibility was completely gone. Not a good thing. Further, the tastings were random. There was no real order to the tastings or the shop visits. We had soup, then bbq and fried Oreos, gumbo, a small tidbit of chocolate, seasonings, candy, gyro type tasting and then an appetizer flauta. I really didn’t get a picture of why certain foods were being served or the context. The owners, other than the couple in the paranormal shop, didn’t explain anything about the food or the history of their restaurant or shop. At one stop, the owner was very friendly but admitted she didn’t like the seafood gumbo as it had no flavor. Who does that? Especially when most of the tour guests were eating that very same seafood gumbo. The tour guides also said they were mostly sick of eating the tour food too after having done the tour so many times. Too much honesty. Another issue I mentioned to the tour owner’s son was that the restaurants they choose should appear politically neutral, meaning no news on the TV (Fox or CNN). Why risk offending either group? I’m not sure he got that point so I’m making it again here. Finally, I wish that there was some passion for doing the tour, at least some aspect of it. Do you love the area? Do you love the food? I sensed no passion for being a tour guide. Neither was a foody; neither seemed interested in history except ghosts. Creating the tour business was a nice way to help a veteran with a strong work ethic be productive upon returning home from service, and I appreciate that sentiment. Yet, this tour was not inexpensive so I expected more than what was offered. The owners don’t want to be just like all the others, but should want to be different in a good way. I hope they will work to improve this tour before starting a food/wine pairings tour.
