We were looking for a nice place to walk, this wasnt it. The trails were wet and slippery, several places slightly off the trail with dropped used toilet paper. Really gross. Many of the trails had too much standing water to walk through with sneakers, and the bridges should have been extended 10 feet on either end to keep us out of the water. Many of the bridges were obstructed by large families with their fishing gear, lunch coolers, clothes, toys, etc.

Great park.. the wildlife and nature on full display, the park is clean and everything is in good repair. The camping looks good and while we stayed a different rv park close by, we may stay here on another trip. We did a day pass and launched our kayaks in the morning and went crabbing in the evening. The kayak launches are awesome. Definitely a nice place to visit and spend some time.

We camped on the West Bay side of the campground and had a 180-degree view of West Bay. Out the rear window of our 5th wheel, we saw a roseate spoonbill, herons, hawks, white pelicans, tricolor herons, egrets, and grackles. Our loop in the campground had water/50 amp electric hookups. Theres a dump station on the entrance road. From the park, you can fish, kayak, birdwatch, hike, and bicycle. This park would have received five stars, but the road into the park is bumpy and filled with potholes. That may be because hurricanes ravaged this area in 2020. Currently, the Gulf of Mexico side of the campground is closed for re-building.

Great place to relax with your family and friends. Park has several picnic areas with tables, grills, restrooms, kayak launch zones, We went fishing ( didn’t have any luck though), grilled burgers and hotdogs and were hiking around. Some hike trails was flooded after the rain, yes, anyway, there was plenty of others that was perfectly fine. And we seen so many different birds, and crabs and bunnies- for me, as a big city girl it’s pretty amazing. The staff is very professional and helpful.

I stopped here on my way home from San Luis Beach for another quick dip in the ocean and to search for things that had washed up on shore before I got home. The beach was relatively empty this day and I had a lot of space to myself and privacy. The sand and water were a lot like San Luis speech with dark water and dark colored sand. The temperature of the water was wonderful. There were still tons of shells and stuff to pick up along the shore. It was so beautiful. This was probably one of the best days Ive had in my life in a long time visiting these beaches.

This park is nice and calm amd not a lot of people visit but its has a lot of fun and beautiful places. In some trails there are big mosquitoes so get a mosquito repellant or cover your body fully. The entry is 5$ per person. Park is open until 10pm. The beach access is currently closed. Dont miss the wooden observation deck if you go there.

Love the state parks of Texas. Cant wait until they finish construction on the sea side. Until then will continue to visit the other side and enjoy nature. Theres a nature center thats interactive for children. You can kayak, fish swim camp and there is RV resources available. If Fishing I suggest you fish from a kayak and not from the shore. If you wanna wade you can do that also. Just mind the grass and stay clear. If Game Wardens catch ya thats a big fine. Point is if you dont know dont do it. Ask park rangers for information and not other guests. I found out the hard way. Luckily the Game Warden let us off with a warning. Another piece of advice is to show up early and claim your spot, because it will populate quickly. Have fun, stay safe and enjoy nature.

I was impressed with this camp site. I wasnt there long but it was clean and well taken care of. The bathrooms are very nice and have showers. The camp site was great. However, the individual spots were too close to each other. The terrible big group next to my tent built a big camp fire using pallet wood. The ashes flew in the air and landed on my cars and tent. i discovered in the morning that it made a hole on the rain cover or my tent. The group also was super noisy and the smoke from the camp fire got all over inside my tent. Ai am not coming back.

I traveled through the marshland in 90° F weather; there is no shade, so I recommend a hat, sunscreen, & sandals. However, there is a risk of snakes. The landscape was beautiful. I saw a variety of fish and birds, including a blue heron. There are several observation locations, which are large platforms at which you can take great panoramic photos. In addition, there are good fishing opportunities at the park. The fisherman I spoke to were trying to catch red fish and trout.

We returned to the park this week. I originally had a poor experience trying to enter with my Texas Parks pass but the customer service straightened the error with my inline account over the weekend so I was able to reserve my entrance online. I had a great time with my family. The trails are small and easy to navigate. The park is wedged between housing developments but the wetlands still bring many birds and the fishing/kayaking opportunities look fun even though I did not partake. Overall, it is a beautiful park and we will return.

Quiet and peaceful park tucked away on Galveston Island. There are a lot of trails to walk and paddle. Hiking trails are very short (less than a mile one way) and the land is generally flat so it is good for all ages and abilities. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT A PEACEFUL OUTDOOR TRIP. They are not accommodating to kayaking, camping, fishing and biking. They also charge 5 dollar a person. NOT WORTH IT. I have vacationed here every year since 2015. I love Galveston Island, and the State Park has the best beach access I’ve found on the island after visiting many different places. The State Park is always clean, sparsely populated, with a helpful and friendly staff. There’s showers, bathrooms, and ample space for you to enjoy the outdoors. Picnics are allowed here, I’ve seen pets here, and I’ve collected many beautiful seashells here. I come back every year and always make sure to spend a day at the State Park. It’s a nice place to relax by the ocean. There is a $15 entrance fee, but it’s good for the whole day and it goes to conservation efforts by the State Park, so I think it’s worth it. The State Park is a bit of a drive away from the main tourist attractions like the the stores, amusement park, restaurants, and hotels, but that can be a good thing if you’re looking to get away from civilization. There’s a gas station nearby if you need snacks or gas for your car so it’s not too isolated, and there’s still good cell signal if you want to upload your pictures to social media. All in all, I would say a trip to Galveston is not complete without visiting the Galveston Island State Park. It’s by far my favorite place on the island.

Loved that!!Staff are friendly and available. The camping sites are equipped with either elec. and water..or just elec.Ours was site 32 in loop 3 and it was clean and nice but be prepared to share some space with neighbors. While there is a clear defining space for each camper...the water faucets are set in a way that have you going into your neighbors space to use it.The views are beautiful, the water nice and cool..but beware..the showers in loop 3 can scald you !Turn on the water and LET IT RUN until its cold or you will get some serious burns.

We traveled to Galveston for a cruise and didnt want to pay the high prices in the area for a hotel for a single night, so I was looking at options ranging from staying in Houston the night before to finding somewhere to park my van overnight. When I noticed there was a state park here, I was elated. I love camping and my husband likes to save money more than he hates camping, so he agreed to it. I was lucky there was one space open.Just a heads up - we reserved an RV spot on the bay side and were really just camping in our minivan, but they discourage any tents in the RV spots, as there arent any tent pads or fire pits at the RV sites. There is a sort of communal area in the middle that has multiple little fire pits, so smores are definitely not out of the question. The beach sites were all occupied on the day that we were there, which I thought would be disappointing. (Who doesnt want to camp right next to the beach?) When we arrived, though, the sea water from the gulf was incredibly turbid, the waves were huge, and it was beyond windy. We checked in and the park staff told us our site was across the highway and a mile from the beach. Regardless if the beach was windy and the water was brown, I still wanted to walk along the beach, so I was a little disappointed again. My disappointment didnt last very long. When we arrived at the bayside camping area, I was pleased that it wasnt as windy, the water was calm and quiet, and there were pelicans and other birds peacefully fishing in the marshy area of the bay. It. Was. Incredible. We took a short walk to the kayak launch area where we saw little crabs burrowing into the sand, and watched the birds wallowing in the water. The next morning - since its only a 15 or 20 minute drive to the cruise port - we had plenty of time to go to the beach and walk there before catching the ship.If you decide to stay here, make sure you reserve ahead of time. All the sites were occupied the night we stayed. If you plan on arriving late, call the park office before they close so you can check in and get the code for the gate, as the gate closes at 10pm.
