Great museum to go to in order to show family members what rig life is like. Now this is a jack-up and life is quite different in deep water but still there is plenty to go through and show anyone. Almost every aspect of rig life is shown in the museum. I would highly recommend this museum for anyone who is remotely interested in drilling and oil exploration.

If youve ever wondered what its like to be on an oil rig, this museum will definitely satisfy your curiosity. Its a decommissioned jack up rig with actual oil rig equipment which will have you fascinated. We started our tour with a briefing on what to expect. The tour is self-guided, and you get to proceed at your own pace with an audio device that explains the various exhibits to you. I thought that was really cool. Be sure to check out each of the three floors, and the outdoor areas to make the most of your visit. The staff here was friendly and welcoming. I would recommend a visit here.

This is a must stop if you like museums, models, science, engineering, boats, or simply want to sit and look at the Galveston Port. Even though it is a retired oil rig, most parts of the museum are wheelchair accessible. You may have some issues outside on the first floor and near the ticket booth/gift shop. I hope that they offer an alternative entrance. In addition, this is a Blue Star Museum for military families during the summer.

This museum provides an in depth look as to what all is involved in oil drilling, the process, life on a rig and much much more. They have quite a bit of “hands on” exhibits and everything is very well explained, but a bit dated. It starts off with a short movie that gives a good overview and then you’re off to explore on your own. It took us about 2 hours to tour the entire museum. Not a place to spend the entire day, but I would add this to things to do while your around the harbor area. We found it very informative.

Amazing place to visit! I gained a lot of new knowledge, I have a much better understanding and visual of what really goes down on the offshore rig sites and I have a much better appreciation for the oil industry. The equipment and models inside the museum are outstanding!! Definitely going back! If you or a loved one is in the oil field I HIGHLY recommend this place!!

This was Avery informative and interesting museum. This is a very kid friendly place. They give the kids a little book when you go in and they have to hunt for all the answers which makes it fun for them. I could have done without the little movie I had to watch so I think they need to make that optional and not mandatory but it was only like 15 min so not to bad. The gift shop was my favorite part. They have all sorts of cool trinkets and jewelry. All in all I am glad we did this. Had it not been for the Galveston island pass I probably would not have done this so I am glad it was an option.

Have you ever wondered how off-shore oil rigs work? Then this is the place for you. Incredible information on 3 levels of this former jack-up rig. Make sure to get the audio tour as it is really well done. Covers the entire process from discovery through on-going production. The extraction of oil from the seabed and the equipment and technology needed to recover and process the crude is fascinating.

Very informative with various pieces of drilling related equipment and some great displays. As a former oil patch employee it was extremely interesting to have the assorted uses of petroleum chemical industry specifically pointed out and displayed. Fossil fuels are not the only end result of oil production. My primary disappointment was the rigs entire gutting for the museum. No control room, crew quarters, dining room or kitchen to see what life was like on the rig.

If you are at all interested in the incredibly massive and expensive technologies required the find, drill and recover offshore oil, you will find this museum fascinating. My family would have preferred I had gone to the museum on my own, as I spent more than an hour on the first floor alone where the exhibits decifer the technologies; there are three more floors including the drilling deck. Great museum to take the kids. It was fun to explore the levels of the rig and learn about drilling for petroleum.**Please be careful while on the outside deck. It appears they replaced some protective railing/cable and there are exposed bolts at eye height of children. If a child were to trip or be pushed they could easily impale themselves or damage an eye on these sharp bolts. I notified staff of this issue and wrote an email to the museum so I hope it will be addressed quickly.

Friendly staff at the ticket counter and entry. Its a self guided tour of a retired oil rig. You can spend roughly 2 hours to learn something about Oil & Gas offshore platforms. There are so many miniatures of different types of offshore platforms, it was mind-blowing on the effort taken to put this museum up. The only reason 1 star is taken away is because parking is $10 (its for 24 hrs, but who stays for 24 hrs there??). Entry fee is $10, but totally worth it because they have maintained it very well.
