Very interesting and fun to tour this family mansion. We chose to hear the narration of Mary Moody performed by an actress. She gave a great tour and had many anecdotes about the children growing up there. It is a great way to learn more about how life was in the years they occupied the home. We both enjoyed it very much.

Fascinating history of a powerful Texas family and Galveston on a self-paced, audio tour. The mansion is well preserved with many original items. The staff were helpful if you have questions but not intrusive. The tour takes about two hours if you listen to all the vignettes. A Texas treasure!

We went there this Sunday. It was amazing!!!! The guy selling the tickets was amazing “ Michael thank you so much”. They are lucky to have you. I will say the lady I hear everyone complaining about it real. She was a bit rude to my son. But everything else was amazing. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a truly unique experience.

We really enjoyed the self-guided tour for $15/each (husband and I both chose to listen to the daughter Marys narration). The women who run the place are lovely and knowledgeable. The entire property is gorgeous and well-maintained, and we found the entire tour/information to be quite interesting. It lasted about 90 minutes, but we kind of rushed through the upstairs because it was getting late. Though the history is interesting and the home is grand, our favorite part of the tour was most definitely the witty keep off signs placed on furniture, in bathtubs, etc. The notes had us giggling through the entire tour. Also note that COVID precautions were excellent, masks are enforced, hand sanitizer is available, etc.

Very interesting and historical location in Galveston. Cool architecture and very friendly staff. The fact that most furniture & decorative items are original and preserved was also an interesting point. Only thing I didnt find appealing is that there isnt much depicted about any type of slave labor or indentured servants that serviced this mansion or its family during an abundant cotton industry. Luv the witty notes throughout the mansion!

We bought our tickets online at 3:30 p.m. this past Sunday with the understanding that the last self tour ends at 4 p.m. with the actual house closing at 5.We walked into the gift shop at 4:04 p.m (we were a couple of minutes behind because of weekend traffic and parking) and the EXTREMELY RUDE lady working the counter told us that the ticket office is closed and that she couldnt help us.I calmly started to explain that I had already paid for the tickets and we just wanted to know where to start the tour... she then became even more aggressive and told us to leave immediately in front of the other patrons which was quite humiliating. What a horrible first impression to have a person with such uncouth behavior working to greet your guests. After reading the other reviews it seems this is a common reoccurrence which proves that this issue has not been addressed or resolved which is quite disappointing, especially for such a historical landmark in Galveston.NOTE: This is NOT the only mansion nor only tour in Galveston... so save your time, energy, and money for a place that treats you with common respect.

Beautiful. Stunning woodwork, furnishings, crystal, clothing, photographs. Audio tour was super informative. The staff was very kind helpful and very informed about the Moody family history. It saddens and burdens me that there is no mention of the staff that worked for the Moodys. Mary Moody seemed to be a thorough note taker and kept journals. I cantbelieve that there was no mention of the extensive staff that was required to run a house that size. Its a shame and a discredit to the hard working men and woman. Would like to see some photos and information about the Moody residence staff followed by a real, true and accurate account of their lives, how they were treated and paid. Thank you.

The tour guide was great! She explained everything in detail. Very interesting stories. The house is well maintained. The mansion is very beautiful. The things I didnt like was that some rooms were used as storage and they were not set up like the other rooms. Another thing I disliked was that the basement is now used as a childrens museum. It would have been a five star if everything was the way they had it back in the 1900s, of course renovated like the rest of the house. Overall, it was a very good and fun experience. We caught a couple of orbs and some pictures.

We loved this place. The price was perfect and gives you a lot of bang for your buck. We went as a family of four (one 4 year old boy and 10 year old boy). The ten year old was enthralled (as were my wife and I) with the 200 series (the guide of the rooms and what they were used for) tour. My 4 year old was all over the place but there were a lot of visual items throughout the whole house that caught his attention still.Tl;dr It was a great way to get out of the sun for a bit and get a blast of the past with the family. It was perfectly priced as well.

For being 125 years old they have done an amazing job preserving it and giving us a look into what life was like when the family lived in it. If you like any kind of 19th and 20th century history, this is a great place to come. You can get a real feeling for how people lived in Galvestons early days here. The mansion has stood the test of time through the storms, and remains a testament to the determination of the Moody family to educate future generations about bygone lifestyles. They have a clever audio self-tour using handheld devices. This makes it easy to go at your own pace. The young man in the tour office was very polite, professional and clear. The only reason Im giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because there was only one guided tour per day when we came, late in the afternoon. We would have preferred a guided tour if it had been available. If youre on the island looking for a more authentic experience than amusement parks and tourist traps, come take a quick tour here. Its worth it.

What a beautiful home! Didnt bother with the audio tour, just the visual one! Love that it is self guided so you can go at your own pace. Had to give it only 3 stars because the noise from the childrens museum that now occupies the ground floor somewhat spoiled the experience. Also, it seems a bit tacky that the admission fee is so high considering the wealth of the family endowment fund ($1.197 billion).

If I could rate this any lower than one star I would. It started out with a rude old lady at the ticket booth and ended with the rude old lady at the ticket booth. Visited this place while on vacation. The parking lot behind the building is rather small but I guess thats to be expected, there was not much traffic or a line entering the gift shop where you go to purchase a tour of the muesum. They give you a small radio and directions on how to use while you walk around viewing different parts of the historical home. The home is absolutely beautiful and it seems to have a small play area for small children outdoors/indoors. Loved the story of the Moody family theres also a garage viewing of their cars and small movie feature before entering the home. Price is cheap

Really lovely place with friendly staff and a laid-back, show-yourself-around kind of vibe. Having the handsets is good (and its great that they talk into your ear like a phone rather than being on speaker like the handsets at the Bishops Palace), but it would have been great to have just a little more signage around. If you didnt want to listen to the entire piece on every number, you couldnt easily pick and choose what to find out, the way you can with an info board. Nice gift shop and just a fun experience all round. The price per adult was $12 (many websites for Galveston have outdated info, it seems) and we understand prices will go up in 2020, so plan accordingly.
