I was in Galveston doing the tourist thing and wanted to go out to Sea Wolf park, or the Galveston Naval Museum but the guy on the harbor tour said it was closed because of the pandemic. Really disappointing because I dont know when Ill make it to Galveston again but I was able to get a great shot from the tour boat. Hopefully, one of these days well have the pandemic behind us and we can all get back to living our lives with out worrying about dyeing

Super cool attraction and I feel it was a good value for the price. I could have easily spent several more hours at this park. Beautiful memorial and the staff that actually does the upkeep obviously takes pride in their work. We were able to watch dolphins out in the bay! There is a webcam online that overlooks the ships. We were able to wave to our family on it while they watched from home.If you have heat or claustrophobia issues be aware that there isnt much shade outside and spaces of course are tight inside some parts of the ships. There are areas to fish and and an intriguing playground at the park but we did not use those on our visit. Definitely recommend!

Interesting. I would have liked a guide. I was fortunate enough to find an old salt to explain how things worked. I had children from 3 to 18, and they all enjoyed it. Not as great for tall people. It would be a good afternoon after seeing the Battleship Texas (not too far away).

If anyone else got confused about pricing: $10 per adult for unguided tour, $6 parking, flat rate. The experience being able to walk around the ship and sub was quite fun. I have a new appreciation for the crew and their responsibilities to not only maintain the equipment but to calculate navigation and translating raw data to determine where an enemy vessel may be and decide when to attack or evade a situation.I would not recommend this experience for those of larger size, especially the sub hatches are smaller and you need to be a little agile. Great experience for kids even though there are do not touch signs on all of the control panels, knobs, levers (I couldnt help myself).

The AUWC is an amazing place to visit! You can tour the USS Cavalla, a WW2 era submarine, and also the USS Stewart, a WW2 era Destroyer Escort. The historical society did a really great job restoring these vessels. After you are done exploring these amazing relics you can wander to the far side of the park and see the remnants of the old Sea Wolf visitors center that was destroyed by some hurricane past. For a nominal fee you are able to fish from the shore or from their pier which extends pretty far over the water. This is a must-see for any vacationers on the island!

You get to enter a battleship and submarine from WWII. Both vessels played significant roles in the war. You can sit at the gun stations, visit bunks, kitchens, and the torpedo bays in the submarine. Theres a war memorial in the museum grounds. They have the best portable bathrooms Ive ever entered.Parents of little children: These are warships made for adults. Stairwells are narrow and steps are thin in some areas. Please watch your small children carefully when entering and walking within the vessels.

Went there for Galveston museum day. This day it was supposed to be free to visit, but there was a mandatory parking fee of 6 dollars. Furthermore both vessels on display were locked so you could not enter but only walk outside. Kind of felt scammed.. You cannot claim free entrance when it is not free AND cannot enter...The woman sitting at the entrance to the vessels was very kind and pleasant though. She made our day.

Really neat experience to tour a submarine and a warship. It really brings history to life. It is a completely and-guided tour, so I would have loved to have more information, stories and tidbits, posted about the various rooms and machinery. What they had was very sparse, and I didnt see any docents to talk with. I understand it is largely if not entirely run by volunteers, so I cant be too critical, but it would be nice to be able to learn the story in more depth.Other things to be aware of if you go:* Even though it is at Seawolf Park, the submarine on display is not the Seawolf, which, as far as I understand, was not recovered after being sunk by friendly fire. It is the USS Cavalla.* They charge $10/adult and $5/child unless you have a group of 15 or more, in which case it is $3/person. They also have discounts for seniors and veterans.* The gift shop is run by volunteers so there is no guarantee it will be open.* The ships have fans throughout to circulate the air, but are otherwise not air conditioned. They can get pretty hot and stuffy in the heat of the day.* The doors throughout the submarine are pretty small, perhaps 4.5 from top to bottom and may pose a challenge for the elderly or anyone who is not flexible.* The ladder to the submarines turret used to be accessible but is now closed. I am guessing this is due to a safety concern.
