I cant believe Ive never gone inside despite living in Fresno for years. Its an amazing gem, definitely worth your time to check it out. The inside is beautiful with a lot of art from local artists on display. They also have free publications with activities to do in the area, so if your looking for something to do this summer this is a great place to look.

Old Fresno Water Tower (1894)2444 Fresno StreetGeorge Washington Maher, ArchitectAmerican RomanesqueDescriptionThe Old Fresno Water Tower is located at Fresno and O Streets in downtown Fresno. Built in the American Romanesque style, it stands 109 feet high, with a storage capacity of 250,000 gallons in its water tank. It is constructed of red brick, each layer smaller than the one below it, to produce a beehive effect. It also has a two-foot thick inner wall, and an outer wall of about fourteen inches. There is a passage, or hollow space, about three feet wide between the two walls. The outside of the tower has a painted surface over the brick construction.Original plans called for three floors to be constructed under the tank itself, but only the second floor was completed. It has subsequently been removed.Historical significanceGeorge Washington Maher, a Chicago architect, was commissioned to design Fresnos water tower in 1891. Completed in 1894, it was in constant use until 1963, when the pumping machinery was no longer adequate. The original design called for a library on the second and third floors, but it was never installed. For several years the first floor was used as a parking meter repair facility. In 2001 the second floor was removed and the interior of the tower remodeled to become the visitors center for the City and County of Fresno. As part of this remodeling a landscaped plaza and separate restroom building were built adjacent to the tower. The water tower today remains Fresnos most distinctive and enduring architectural symbol.Adapted from the National Register of Historic Places nomination, originally prepared by William E. Briam.

This place is pretty awesome, but it could be so much better if it was more community based, parking is rough, and depending upon the day it may be free or youll have to pay. However, this place is perfect for gatherings and hanging out.

The FAC Water Tower is near the Courthouse downtown and the Fresno Courthouse Park, it is a great place to relax. Before you sit down, get yourself a bite to eat and then relax in the shade. You can find lots of small restaurants in the area, so just enjoy yourself.

Its a really nice area in general I mean Ive never been inside of the tower but the library is right across the street and its next to a police station so its perfect for like making deals on Craigslist or chilling outside. Theres quite a bit of hommles but thats just how it is nowadays I mean theres not a ton, theres like a slightly above average amount.

I have passed by the tower one to many times and FINALLY stopped in recently. WOW!!! If you want to see some awesome brickwork, this place is INCREDIBLE! There are over 250,000 hand-laid bricks in the tower. The art shop inside is very nice. The staff was very friendly. No longer used for water storage (is was emptied and taken out of use back in the 1960s) but it is nice to see it restored and repurposed. A true treasure of Fresnos past!
