The tour guide was an amazing storyteller that painted a vivid picture of the battle and what the family and all people involved went through during that day on the property. I would highly recommend this tour so you can immerse yourself in this time of history.

Didnt get to go in the house. Barely missed the cut off for last tour. But the fellow at the desk was super helpful and knowledgeable. As he was locking up the smaller buildings he unlocked the farm office for us to see the battlefield damage. It was oddly beautiful. Took some great pics. Folks here were super nice. Thanked us several times for coming out.

I give this a 2 star. The grounds are beautiful. BUT. I have a 1 year old baby and so my husband and I decided not to take the tour so that he would not annoy anyone. However we did run into a tour lady and she was beyond rude to my Hispanic husband. She was so nice to all the other people around but when my husband walked in on a building we thought was open to the public she embarrassed us in front of people. She demanded we leave immediately and was loud and rude. My poor husband felt so frustrated. She rudely inquired if we even had tickets, which of course we did. It was terrible. Im glad we didnt take the tour, I would have really been upset. I wanted to report her but there was no one inside the building. Honestly I think my huge Hispanic husband scared her when he walked in. But there is a way to talk to people. It immediately felt like an attack. It was a young blonde tour guide. So if you see her just be mindful.

In one of the most amazing stories in civil war history, Tod Carter toured the country with his troops, only to get killed in his backyard of his childhood home. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, with a small museum at the entrance. You can take one of the many tours for a detailed look. You can also tour at your own pace, reading the many plaques on the property... A third option, your the grounds and enjoy the aesthetics.Ironically, members of the Carter family were bored so far from any fighting... Only for it to end up in their back and front yard. The Carter house is a beautiful property with an inexpensive admission to the grounds.

I was near here for work and decided to go check out some history. Wow was I glad to make the last guided tour at 4pm. It was so informative, educating and enlightening that I wanted to come back for more information. The Trust that owes the museum is making some amazing progress on restoring the building showing you the amazing battle that took place on this property. There is so much to see and do I would love to spend much more time here to explore and learn. The restored room with the bullet holes was the winner and the still lodged bullet beside the house was amazing. If you are in Franklin, take time to go explore this wonderful piece of history.

Great local history tour in Franklin! Good way to learn about the families who started the town, the ways the civil war impacted he town, and about the Carter family specifically. The tour does require walking around uneven grounds, paths, upstairs into the house and down to the basement. I love the rich history and fun period decorations used in the house. They visitors center is nice and has an extra video if you’d like to watch it as well as a mini museum. This site is across the street from Lotz House and very close to the Carnton Plantation. There is a group ticket price if you plan to visit all three at the same time, you would just need to plan your time accordingly to get to them before they close.

Great place for a tour and to learn about the civil war. The lady that did our tour is knowledgable and really knows how to tell a story. I felt like I could vision everything happening. The best part is when she sat us outside on the deck and was explaining where everything happened. She had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I didn’t get her name but I snapped a photo while she was talking. She needs a promotion! thank you for a great day and filling my head with some great knowledge.

This was a very interesting story that comes with this house. If you tour here, you must also go across the street to the Lotz house. We only made it to the two houses (which is why I dont remember what the 3rd site was).

The place is small but packed with history. Tour guide (Randy) was very knowledgeable and had good delivery. But its a lot of information to take in - youre better off reading about the Battle of Franklin (or the brochure about the Carter house) before coming to the museum - its very hard to keep track of all the names/protagonists during the tour if you dont have the right background. If youre visiting Franklin only for a day, do this tour, the Archives Museum and Main Street - all very close to each other.
