One of the best museums you will ever visit. It is pure Frankfort through and through and you get a great feel for the history of the community. They have the friendliest and nicest staff Ive ever met in any museum. They dont mind to chat with you as long as you have a mind to do so. Its clean and uncluttered and everything is thoroughly explained.

Dont miss your chance to visit the Capital City Museums newest exhibit The History of the Bourbon Industry In Frankfort, which opened on April 20, 2018. The exhibit features artifacts from some of the bourbon industrys founding fathers, innovators of the new commonwealth of Kentucky. Also inquire about the NEW Bourbon History Walking Tour as well as the NEW Bourbon History Trolley Tour! All of these activities are FREE of charge.

Very nice small local museum showcasing Frankfort. Was surprised by the breadth of their holdings. At times, seemed a bit disjointed exhibit-wise, but overall nice visit.

Free admission! Wheelchair/stroller accessible - elevator to reach the second floor exhibits. Excellent quality material and setup. Informative and enthusiastic staff. Quiet environment - Would not recommend for small children that love to run. Will return.

This is a great little place to walk through when you are in the historic downtown Frankfort area. Its free to walk through and has a lot of local history. Perfect for kids too because its fairly small and you can be in and out in 10 to 30 minutes if you want. They offer various themed walking tours around the area as well for a small fee. A tour guide will walk around with a group pointing out interesting historical facts and stories. Very nice staff as well.

This museum in Frankfort was great. The entire history of the town and immediate area around is described in easy to digest chunks. The text on the signs is informative and entertaining without being too much. The museum is free but would be worth an admission charge.

Wonderful Museum to visit & learn about The Frankfort Folks of our past. Tremendous amount of local history on display with artifacts. Thanks to Russ Hatter, John Downs & the Museum Board, Volunteers & all Donors for an amazing job.

It had a nice interactive exhibit about Kentuckys past. I liked that you can get kids into it with a scavenger hunt. The hall of governors was interesting, especially when you can add a sticky note that says what you would do if you were governor. Other than that, there wasnt much else to do. I couldnt see myself spending more than an hour there. Luckily the $8 you spend works for the museum and two other locations. That was worth it.

Wow! A treasure trove of excellent artifacts that let us understand how our ancestors lived. If you get a chance to speak with any of the docents you are in for a treat: History comes alive! Be sure to get upstairs to the Bone Room!!!

The two-story museum contains a wide variety of stuff from early Frankfort history until relatively recent times.I enjoyed touring the Capital City Museum on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. It contains many interesting exhibits. The museum contains a replica of Dr. E.E. Humes office as it was when William Goebel was brought there after being shot. Some hollow wooden logs that served as part of an early water system for Frankfort are also in the museum.Seeing the items listed earlier, as well as a large copper ball that was formerly on the top of the capitol building, fishing reels manufactured by a well known Frankfort company, and many other items made the tour well worth the hour or so I devoted to it.There is no charge for admission, but receptacles are there for persons desiring to make a donation.A small gift shop in the front of the museum near the entrance offers several books for sale.I strongly urge persons living in or visiting Frankfort seek to take time to tour this museum. It is conveniently located in downtown Frankfort.
