We did the self-guided tour. We downloaded the app, grabbed our earbuds and headed to the estates. It was a wonderful tour where we could wander at our own pace, read the historical signs along the path and listen to the audio. About 95% of the tourists complied by wearing masks. The landscape and homes were beautiful. The museum was also interesting and included in the tour as well as the lab. It was my first time to see a banyan tree in person; it was incredible!

Wonderful place to spend couple of hours walking around and learning about Edison and Ford, their friendship and life. Very educational. You can take a guided tour or you can download free app and listen to description at every numbered stop.We bought Edison’s biography Edison by Edmund Morris at the little gift store by the Ford’s house (the one that sells ice cream) and my husband started reading it right away. Loved the other gift store across the street as well. They sell so many plants. We also got a patch to sew on my travel bag :-)

As a history buff I really wanted to see this place. A group of seven...family and grandparents was going to be near $150 so we left. Just too much and especially considering the age of our kids and likelihood we would be able to stay more than an hour or so. Oh well, we had a nice lunch instead. I looked at the free app a bit and pictures posted online so I was able to get a feel for it. That price for a self-guided tour seems a bit steep but it seemed well organized and taken care of.

Loved our visit here. We paid the $30 for the guided tour and we loved it. Our guide was fantastic, informative, funny. For us it was well worth it. Tip: the gift shop by the houses is better than the one by the museum, in my opinion. The only thing we wished was that we had a tour of the museum too, our guided tour only took us to the houses. But the museum is FULL of great stuff, we wished we had more time to read all the info!

Been there many times and learn and see more each time. Like the self tour that you can use on your phone as you walk at your own pace. You can sit along the paths and enjoy the beautiful trees and flowers or just watch the boats on b the water. The Edison and Ford homes are beautifully kept. Thank you for an enjoyable educational experience.

Lovely estate on the Caloosahatchee River in historic Ft. Myers. The museum is extensive and contains an excellent history of Edison’s inventions, his Lab along with sections on his travels with his friend Henry Ford. Nice museum detailing the technology developed by Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Not on par with the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn but still really good. Give yourself an hour for the museum and 30 minutes to tour the outside of the Ford and Edison houses across the street. (You cant go inside the houses.) Gets very warm and uncomfortable by 11:00 or so in the summer, so get there early. Outstanding variety of tropical landscaping.

This was not a planned trip but we took a wrong turn and suddenly here we were. The grounds are beautiful, with a view of the gulf. The self guided tour on my smart phone made it easy to follow. I did notice some private group tours as well. It was nice having a glimpse of days gone by, as I looked into these beautiful old homes. You can also visit the museum where Thomas Edison worked, see some cars on display, etc. you can easily spend half the day at this site.

This was a fascinating museum. While I liked seeing the understated Edison and Ford winter homes, the perspective provided by the museum on Edison, in particular, was impressive. I always knew he was a genius. Virtually any school child can recite his major contributions to modern life. But the depth of his inventiveness? Not so much. And there are his close friends, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone, among others. Automobiles. Mass production. Tires. Rubber. Incredible impact. Think about it. Make the visit. Well worth the $25.

Set in an old Florida area a short distance from the main road is this beautiful estate. The museum captured Edison’s and Fords creative minds as well as their family tree. Very interesting indeed. Walking through the museum leads you to Edison’s laboratory. I didn’t take a guided tour although offered but did the self guided. I understand that audio is available but I wasn’t aware of that at the time. Outside was the botanical gardens that also offered plants for purchase. Moving across the street is the location of their winder homes. I visited during Christmas and I have to say the grounds were magical as night fell over the property. The homes were decorated and made you feel like a part of that part of history as you strolled around the extended porches that overlooked the water. I could have sat there forever. There is food and drink and of course a nice little gift shop on the grounds at both the museum and home areas. The ticket counter staff was fun and delightful as well as helpful. Definitely worth a visit and a stroll back in time!

Great place to go to learn more about Edison and Ford! The museum is huge. Whenever you walk in, you are greeted by numerous plants and you have the capability to buying a guided tour or a self-guided tour. Tickets were fairly cheap, about $25 per person for adults and cheaper for kids. There is an indoor and outdoor museum that features information about Edison/Ford’s family. You get to view their houses from a far, but it is still a beautiful landscape with plenty to do! I would definitely go back— I explored the whole museum but I still feel like there is more to explore.

We did the audio/self-guided tour as the scheduled tour was full. If the historical buildings were open to tour instead of peering through the glass, it would have been better. I would recommend spending at least a few minutes in the museum first and then heading outside. I would have liked to spend more time on the grounds but the kids aren’t into botanical gardens.Only reason for 4 stars is the kids tickets are overpriced for their enjoyment level.

I expected my visit to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates to be very interesting in terms of discovering more about Thomas Alva Edison, and it did not disappoint. What I didn’t expect, and was pleasantly surprised to find, was that there was also a great deal presented about the history of Ft. Myers itself and Florida in general. As a resident of North Florida, it was enlightening to see how the state’s many highways and interstates, railways, commerce and agriculture all coalesced into what we see today. Our tour docent was very knowledgeable.Bottom Line: I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. It’s worth the extra $ for the guided tour.

While being fairly interesting the $25 per person entrance was quite a steep price - I compare it with the historic places in the UK. This is definitely a place people in the USA would be proud of. I think they could have made more of the female influences in both the Edison and Ford families. The volunteer staff were full of information and helpful. On a hot day to be able to wander inside the houses would be a blessing unfortunately you can only peep in the windows. There are some interesting botanical plants in the well kept garden.
