What a jewel in Fort Lauderdale. We took the 1pm tour. Our tour guide was excellent. She has lived in the area all her life and was very knowledgeable of the history. There is a small fee worth every penny.

Great landmark to visit late at night for a date. Took my girl here twice around 1am and it was beautiful not many people and security keeps bums away so thats a plus.

The urban lights at History Fort Lauderdale is free to view, you can either walk to it via main street or cut through History Fort Lauderdale. I prefer to see it at night with the lights on, it is much nicer in my opinion. During the day it is obviously not on and can be a little busier with smaller children.

Maybe its just because of covid but the vibes here were very uncomfortable and there wasnt much to see. Also, $10 was a complete rip off and she rudely informed us that the military discount was only for active duty and not veterans. No discount for my brother, a first responder either. She actually laughed at him. Ive seen world class museums for an optional donation, so to see a place greedy for money to learn about history is despicable.

So well done in every way. Receptionist was friendly and helpful. The guide was very knowledgeable and generous with sharing his expertise and answered our questions, taking time to allow us to absorb the experience of seeing these 100year old pieces of furniture and the accompanying clothing and appliances.

I really liked the museum. I met an artist in residence as well and learned from him a great deal about all the current artists on residence. This museum traces the beginnings of Ft. Lauderdale with impeccably preserved original home, hotel and school house. The day we were there it was warming up to rain making the outdoor and old school house portion of the tour miserably hot and humid. Otherwise enjoyed it greatly

A pleasant little museum that offers a nice glimpse into Ft. Lauderdale history. I did not know it was such a relatively young city! The first floor, when I went, was a Dia de Los Muertos exhibit. The second had six or so rooms that chronologically go through the history of the Native Americans, the early businessmen and wartime years. The third floor had an artists in residence thing where one of the artists showed you through each of the artists rooms, all of the art being for sale. Easy to spend a good hour or hour and a half here. They offer tours of more buildings as well, but I did not get there at a time to make one of the tours. I recommend!

Not sure really we got there and just missed the three oclock tour.they only had a one or two and then three which I dont find very helpful if youre on vacation you either would like to go a little earlier or a little later ..not in the middle of the day and then theres no free parking... the Lots just for employees so we havent even gotten to go yet maybe if we get a chance to go at these inconvenient times Ill change my rating if I like it ..right now Im kind of disappointed.I am updating my review as I received a response that they are considering my comments as far as the parking situation and also the timing of the tour I do appreciate that and we actually did get back down there to take the tour and a tall older gentleman told us a lot of history and was very interesting one of my kiddos was a bit bored while the other one was interested thats the way it is with kidstheres a replica of a schoolhouse and you can see the top floor of the Inn / Motel and the house that was moved from its original location. I also recommend if you do this to tour to head on down to the Stranahan House by taking the free River Taxi they also only have times of one two and three for tours which I didnt know and headed down there and they had just did their last tour ... I would just add if someones 10 or 15 minutes late to give them the opportunity to join the tour if they want versus head back down there another day it was raining the day we came unfortunately and we had nothing else to do it would have been nice if someone had mentioned we were right by the Riverwalk and that we can take the river taxi I had no idea I was right there and I had told them I dont know what were going to do then we ended up just going back to the hotel kind of wasted a day. It was another employee that told me the lot was just for employees but when I came back I did Park in it because thats not what the sign said. Thank you for your response.

This place is amazing. The campus of three buildings dates back to roughly 1905 when the railroad was the cultural hub of Fort Lauderdale. Great for meetings and gallery browsing. The upper floors of the main building houses several artists in residence.

For the last three years Ive been coming to the New River museum with my wife for the annual Day of the Dead parade and art show. The staff is pleasant and knowledgeable about the history and beauty of Fort Lauderdale, the museum itself features art studios in the upper floors and art exhibits on the main gallery. A worth visit if you take the free tour. An spectacularly beautiful landscape with the river as background. What a gem!

Terrible guided tour, guide spoke waaaaaay too long, and gave unneeded information, he spoke so long we only got to see1/3 of the tour. Tour starts early missed the 1:00pm, had to wait for 200pm. Other people on the tour were all comenting how bored they were, and trying to find a way to sneak away.TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY and TIME. Its a shame, maybe self-guided tour would be a much better idea. Obviously, the staff is not trained nor qualified. Woman at desk was very anxious, confused and flighty, she kept my credit card, I called the day after to get it and person on the phone didnt even look for it, replied I dont see any credit card laying around. Unfortunatley the staff is not capable of assisting customers properly, or understandingtheir needs, or comprehending a simple question.

Interesting old Fort Lauderdale site with a lot of information on area history. However, the reason for my visit was to see the display of Tim Formans paintings. The Historical Society hosts local artists works and currently is showing a large number of Tims stunning landscapes. If you appreciate The Highwaymens famous Florida landscape paintings, get thee to the Historical Society site and check out Tims work. Brilliant!
