I was a member for over 7 years and just bought a boat so I can tell you that the club is awesome (so I am no longer a member). In the beginning I had no clue how to dock a boat but Mark & Jeff taught me how. Both are good dudes. The boat club is well managed and organized. Every time I got a boat it was clean and ready to go. The dock master in Fort Lauderdale is Mark and he always answers his phone and is very polite. In Key Biscayne its also well run and organized as well. Key Biscayne facility appears to be 3 times larger than Fort Lauderdale.I used the boat club more in Key Biscayne as there is more area to do watersports and the Hurricanes are fun to take out and go tubing and skiing.During my time with the boat club my monthly fee was $200.00 and it was never increased which was great. You pay a maintenance fee once a year of about $750 which is fine as that is used to get new boats. Now the only draw back is that since the club is so well run and popular there are a lot of members so going out on the weekend is tough because when the weather is nice EVERYONE wants to go out. The week days are much much easier. I found that you could take a boat on the weekends at least 1 1/2 days a month on the weekend during good weather.I want to make sure that I state that every time I got a boat it was as CLEAN as a whistle. Have fun.

Been a member here for about a year and a half now- one of the best decisions I made since moving to South Florida. 200 bucks a month for the base level plus sign up fees which vary, you get a 21 center console (cobia) or sport boat with canopy (Hurricane). Alex is the best attendant here- always super helpful. The thing to do in South Florida. Also nice that you can take the boats out from Miami (Rickenbacker Causeway).

Unprofessional, rude and condescending. Would not recommend to anyone. Choose any other boat club.

I am writing this review on behalf of my friend (who is a member) and I, because we use the club together and this is my experience with the South Florida Bot Club. The club is highly likely to retaliate against us, but we must post this because it’s been years of abuse. It was $7,000 to get into the club and they were so nice and flexible, telling us we are basically an ownwr. However, after they got the $7,000 and over the course of a few months, they became more and more restrictive. They use punishments to enforce their surprise and restrictive rules. They can make restrictive rules at any time and suspend you or kick you out for violating a rule. For example, you cannot take the boat over 25/30 mph even if the boat won’t work at a speed under 25/30 mph. If they tell you there is bad weather and you have to be back to the marina at a certain time, and you don’t arrive on time, they punish you. Access and hours a very limited. Even if the weather is not bad. They are always looking to blame something on the boat user that was not the boat user’s fault. They suspend us for weeks and tell us they are going to throw us out. It’s as if they want us to stop using the boat after they got our initial $7,000. They make every excuse to deny us a pleasurable boat experience. It’s like walking on egg shells each time we want to go boating. Be aware that they will tell you great things until they get the initial money and then discourage you so that you leave the club.

Im posting this on behalf of a friend of mine because she is legally bound by her contract with South Florida Boat Club not to make negative posts. Think about that for a minute. They put in the contract that you cannot post anything negative about the club. Wheres the incentive to provide a good service? They can do what they want and not be held accountable. When she joined she tried to make reservations on the weekend for us. We quickly found out that we had to book two weeks out because of heavy demand for the weekend reservations. Also, there is a block in the system that prevents you from booking back to back weekends. So now, because we work during the week, we found we are only able to get a boat 2 times a month because of availability.More recently we are finding that unless we book 3 weeks beforehand there arent enough available boats to accommodate the reservation. We took a week off to have a stay vacation. Although easier, we still found it difficult to get a boat on certain days. When we asked why, we found out that when the kids are out of school, parents use the club more. It doesnt seem like the club is keeping up with demand by buying additional boats. Theyre just selling memberships and using what they have. Make sure you ask about what boat-to-member ratio they maintain, and also ask if thats for both ocean-going or cruiser boats only? If they give you an answer (doubt it) ask them how they keep track of it and do they post those ratios for members to see? If you decided to sign up, make them put it in writing. On a positive note, the dock masters are helpful and do a good job. This is why I gave this service more than 1 star. Other than that, it would just be 1 star.Do your research before signing up. Otherwise, youll be disappointed.

A great club to be a part of - for anyone, not just family. Friendly staff and great boats to use. The club rules take some time to get used to - but theyre for the better, and make for a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Before joining the club, I researched the other clubs in the area and found that the prices were lower and they had more boats. Joining the club was to be far cheaper than buying a boat and storing it. Plus your boat never gets old/goes out of style, because they keep buying new ones each year. Highly recommend!!

Great service, great boats, good price, excellent value! No cleaning and no hassle! Fair rules to keep the boats working well and looking great. No dogs over 20 lbs is my only issue because I have an 80 lb dog.Getting on the reservation system is easy and I have not had an issue booking. Luis is always there to help and very responsive via email. Sometimes on the weekends it can be tough to get the boat you want all day, but there are always boats if you book a few days in advance. During the week there are always boats and you always get them for the full day.One of the values I did not realize at the beginning is how important the USCG training and the on-the-water trainings are. Jeff, Chris, and Andrew are all great, very knowledgeable, and always helpful. I have learned a lot with them and realize now how much more there is to boating safety, parking, etc. Since joining I have gone out on other friends boats and have pointed out a few safety concerns or proper techniques to help them out. Everyone has appreciated them because safety is VERY important and the proper techniques are good to know and save you time and $.I have grown up with boats all my life and my father has several here locally. I like this club because you dont have to fix them or clean them. I strongly recommend this club!

I have been a member of SFBC for a few years and Im very happy with the service and the quality of their boats. Their staff and dock masters are very helpful and courteous. I had to take a few course to learn about boating and boating safety. I highly recommend taking the courses and some are even required by this boat club. I never have a problem reserving for my time slot and you just have to plan ahead. There are a variety of boats to choose from and this was one of the deciding factors of joining this club. Give them a call and talk with their staff. They even let potential clients hang out by the docks and talk with other members.

As a veteran in the boating industry, I was disappointing with this company. I can post this now because my contract with them which states I would not post anything negative online has finally expired. Think about why they put that into their contract. What they do not tell you,1. The boats are rarely available during peak times.2. The boats they bait you into joining do not stay around long or are always unavailable.3. Before you can use any of their boats independently you have to pay to pass their coarse which on average is several months.4. The owners are not honest people, the one I dealt with, Lied repeatedly, and when I checked my invoices had regularly manipulated the numbers for additional profit.5. You might think you are joining a national company, there is not the national support you might expect.Overall, this is a pump and dump, most people Ive spoken with or seen posts from online leave. My advice would be to find a small group to buy a boat with, and live without the aggravation of South Florida Freedom Boat Club.

UPDATE: just a warning that if you ever report damage caused by another boat operator (scuff marks on the hull of a boat covered in scuff marks) they’ll bill you to re-gel the boat. They hit me with a $600 charge with no warning or explanation. Other guy at fault, report from marine police presented, I did the right thing and reported it to SFBC and I got charged. That turned me sour on this boat club, big time.Cant say anything but positive things about this club. My family has had a blast using the boats and weve been offered deals on upgrades. Dock masters Mark and Alex in Fort Lauderdale are THE BEST, and the Miami crew is good, though always very busy. Office staff Ive dealt with -- Richard and Shannon -- are all very professional and quick to respond. The boats are all in great shape, with those in Miami a little longer in the tooth -- but still safe and clean. If I could say anything negative, it would just be that Id like to have more flexible weekend scheduling, and have old reservations clear out immediately from the system so new reservations can be made right away.If youre considering a boat club and youre local to South Florida, this is a no-brainer. Its a great substitute or prelude to owning a boat -- no headaches!

The guy who runs this place is a real piece of $hit! Called 3x to speak with someone about the membership. Had some questions that I needed to ask prior to dropping $300 a month and almost $5k down. On the 3rd call, some prick picks up and says,” I see you’ve been calling and I’m very busy and don’t have time for this!” You don’t have time for new business ? You have so much money and customers that you can’t have someone else take your sales calls. Bad first impression for sure !!

South Florida Boat Club scared me off. I enjoyed the open house and was set to join and then started asking follow up questions. They would not give me a copy of the contract to review ahead of time. They would not put me in contact with any members for recommendations. They did say I was welcome to stand around on the dock and talk to people however. No thanks. Very disappointing.

I have been a member with Freedom Boat Club now South Florida Boat Club for the past 5 years. In the beginning I had a few issues but as with anything in life it all works its self out in the end. Not any company is perfect especially when boating in a shared environment. I now understand why SFBC has the rules they have. I have seen other reviews where some say that the rules are harsh and that some people think that they are treated unfair but in reality the rules are for our safety. The rules are in place for a reason!!I wanted to take a moment out and say Thank You to the staff for all the hard work you do. I highly recommend this club to anyone!!

Ive been a member for over 3 years and I have enjoyed the pleasure of a boat without the hassles of ownership. For the most part, the staff have been professional and EXTREMELY helpful. Ive made mistakes and so have they. Mark and Shannon at Ft Lauderdale are THE BEST!I must say that being a member of Freedom Boat Club is a lot like being a member of a Condo Association. They have rules, schedules and other restrictions that protect the safety of their members and the quality of their boats. The boats, by the way are AWESOME. Some are not ocean going boats, but many are, and must be reserved in advance.Where else can you have access to a $25000 boat, that is cleaned and maintained, for a couple hundred dollars a month. No dockage fees, no insurance, no worries.Stop by the Ft Lauderale Marina and check them out. Tell them Tim sent you

New Owners are awful most boats arent even ocean worthy (can only go up and down the river). Full days are never available on the weekends and the dock master is rude and unprofessional. If you like boating on the weekends, in the evenings, over night, or in the ocean this is the absolute last thing you want to do.

The dock masters in Miami are horrible and they will treat you like crap. If you are new to boating stay away from Freedom boat club. There are 2 dock-masters in Miami who are Chris and an old guy in his late 50 who has white hair with a Colts hat and he is the absolute meanest person you will ever encounter. I dont know how Freedom boat club has a person like this on staff. Now the dock master in Fort Lauderdale is Mark and he is GREAT! The boats in Fort Lauderdale are also better so there is a little ray of sunshine.Any time I go out in Miami I dread these 2 as they are looking to launch into you over something very minor or even nothing at all. They have HORRIBLE people skills and will not help you in any way. This is too bad because the Key Biscayne location is great and the value that they sell you in the beginning makes 100% sense but then they treat their members so poorly. If FBC decided to treat their Miami members nice or with respect then maybe there wouldnt be so many bad reviews but until then go to another boat club. The boats in Miami are crappy little 115 hp 4 strokes that can barely get on plane.
