Stopped on our long road trip. Cute museum. $10 pp. Give yourself 2+ hours to get through the exhibits. Its really a very eclectic collection of many wars, Indian relics, Iowa and local history, and just miscellaneous stuff. Interesting and well worth the $10 fee. Although the exhibits could really use some TLC, some items were misplaced, some hidden, and there were not that many explanations of the items, which would help explain what things were and when.

This was a very pleasant surprise! Great displays and much local and Iowa history. A street full of period store fronts like pharmacy, blacksmith, general store, etc. I highly recommend a stop.

Not so much a museum anymore as it a tourist trap, they promote the standard whitewashed version of local history, the building itself isnt even historically accurate.

Enjoyed our time here. There are many buildings with very old things to see. It is basically a museum of the fort. The fort is laid out there also and it was cool to see what the fort really looked like also. There is a lot of history in this place for sure. We enjoyed playing a game of checkers in the general store and play acting being some old settlers! The school and the church were probably my favorite buildings to go and see. There is something to be said about the founders and first settlers knowing and acknowledging that God was needed. Wishing we could go back to the days where God and Creation were taught in our schools. And the importance of family. Overall had a great time here and may go back in the future. Staff was friendly and inviting!!

Had a nice visit. The place is full of history about frontier life. Many interesting exhibits with loads of authentic artifacts. The replica fort is neat, as is the village. There are a few authentic buildings on the site too. I think the price of $10 per adult was well worth it.

Its all historical, and its the original Ft. Dodge. Thats how the town used to look til the Indians kept attacking so the moved the town across the river. And its also where the town of Ft. Dodge holds its annual chili cook offs.

Grew up in fort Dodge, spent many days here as a child and always had a great time. Living in Chicago now and was back visiting family. We drove by and my 12-year old son asked what this was so I took him in thinking wed be in and out in 30 minutes. We spent 3 hours there and he had a great time. For a total of $10 admission for the two of us, money very well spent.

Looks like an interesting placed but they did notbother to post that they had closed forthe winter. Wasted a trip. Try it next year maybe

Pe
Review №67

Historically inaccurate. The original fort wasnt at this site and it certainly didnt have a wall around it. Unless you ask questions, you would assume from the displays and such that this museum had something to do with Fort Dodge the Fort. This is really a museum of Ft Dodge the TOWN not the actual Fort. I was disappointed and felt like I had been deceived. Not worth the price if you are interested in real history.
