This is a great place to get out and do wildlife photography. You never know what you will get. The paths are wide so it is easy to keep socially distant.

Very clean and well laid out. Lots of different types of birds here, from bald eagles and osprey, all the way down to my personal favorite, the cedar waxwing. Clean restrooms with flush toilets. Its busy at times but big enough that it never feels crowded. If youre a birder, this place needs to be on your list.

This place is the best. Great place for birding; wildflowers during the late spring/summer are also great. We like this place a lot more than jackson bottom because it is more cleared out, you can see the water/birds easier.

This is an amazing place if you want to bird watch or photograph water fowl and nature in general. The trails are wonderfully kept. There is absolutely no trash or anything that could be harmful to the animals. Its a great place to relax and enjoy natures beautiful creatures. 12/10 would absolutely recommend.

The nicest, biggest preserve in the area that you can explore year-round. Every visit will yield some sort of wildlife viewing. You can easily get your steps in here, but beware it is a dog/bike-free park. Bring sunblock & water in the summer as there is not a lot of shade.

What a lovely and beautiful spot in Forest Grove. I love going especially for the birds. This area has a loop trail around the ponds and wetlands where you can see all kinds of birds year round including herons, egrets, and even bald eagles. On a clear day you can even see Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Jefferson in the distance.

Its a great walk. Not paved, but mostly flat. The smallest loop is about a mile. The rock garden area has come such a long way since the first time we were there. Ive seen so many amazing birds and animals here. You forget that its basically the end of the water treatment system.

I often wonder aloud “what is my soul? What does mine feel like?” I of course know what a soul is - at least, in theory, I do. But that’s not what I’m referring to. That’s not what I seek here. I’m not ruminating over the thing inside us all that yearns for a mate. I’m speaking to the part you, the deepest rooted core that blooms meaning to your being, that within your bones, reflects like a pale spring your innermost voice and truest self. The part of you that comes alive at Fernhill Wetlands. This magical kingdom of the birds in a bountiful valley of life answers these questions I ponder - and many, many more.

Just discovered this wonderful little spot and am delighted that I did. I went one day and just sat in the parking lot with the windows rolled down to listen to the variety of bird songs. When the family asked what I wanted to do on Fathers Day, I took them to the wetlands for a walk.

Nice area to walk around and view birds and beavers/nutria. Im not sure how much of it is natural, but I know its at least partly engineered. Clean Water Services built a series of wetlands that they use to treat and cool their wastewater effluent before discharging to the Tualatin. It doesnt smell funky and its not gross. Its actually a pretty neat solution to a resource management issue. Wastewater is warmer than the river, so when they discharge during the summer it warms up the river which is not good for fish. So they use these wetlands to do some cooling as well as remove additional compounds that they may not have to to meet their permit requirements but is better for the river. Anyhow thats how I understand it at least. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area and want some fresh air and a nice walk.

Update: Revisited Fernhill on March 3rd, 2 weeks after the flood waters receded and had an enjoyable nature walk. The updated landscaping and varied paths are lovely. Lots of wildlife on show this trip including several kinds of waterfowl, herons, an egret, swans, geese, amphibians, nutria, turtles, a couple snakes and several raptors, kestrel, immature bald eagle, and a red tailed hawk.Fernhill wetlands is a great place for a nature walk. On Jan 27th 2018, it was flooded out.

An awesome medium length easy walk through well maintained greenery and native plants. Lots to see and watch for. The last time we went around the 1 mile loop (Early July) we saw giant geese, frogs, blue herons, pelicans, nutria, jumping fish, a bald eagle, several hawks, giant dragonflies, tons of wildflowers, and more! It was really awesome and a great reprieve and quiet walk around the Sewage Lagoon. Dont let the name fool you, it isnt filled with Sewage, but more of a man made watershed that the local animals seemed to really enjoy.Along the trail there are several covered blinds that you can rest in and look out and from some areas you can even seen Mount Hood! From their website: Fernhill Wetlands is part of more than 700 acres in Forest Grove owned by Clean Water Services and managed in partnership with the City of Forest Grove and Fernhill Wetlands Council. It is a popular destination for birders who come to see rare migratory birds.
