I always love coming here. They have many different exhibits that visit so there is usually something new to see. The class I took on perspective was enlightening and fun. And with COVID they take extra steps to insure our safety with someone at the entrance to take your temperature.

Great place to look at fascinating art. The exhibits are laid out beautifully, they have an amazing collection from glass, to paintings, to carpets. We felt very welcome here as well and somone who contributed to that was a man named James Lewis. He was very kind and even took a picture of my family and I. He told us about some of the art, and showed us some hidden things in the artwork.

Great way to spend some quiet reflection time. This museum has a confusing layout but it appears to have been added on to several times. They didnt appear to have a childrens area or anything more interactive for little people. Im hoping they will continue to grow, it was a nice alternative to the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Genesee County residents, if you’re looking for an arts and cultural event or thing to do to enrich your mind in Flint, the Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) may be the right choice. The FIA opens from 9-5 and they offer a wide range of art from paintings, sculptures to glass blowing. Order a nice lavender tea ️ with a sandwich whilst you wait. There is also a dark wooden, quiet l library that you can peruse to find art books and culture. The best news is that the FIA is FREE to Genesee County residents. On some evenings, you can catch a movie that you may have missed at the cinema and bump elbows with other arts and cultural enthusiasts. The tickets are usually $6 and you can watch unencumbered without the smell and crunch of popcorn. The next exhibit celebrates Community exhibition where the gallery is getting three pieces that the patrons can vote on to see which one the museum will buy.Come check it out.

IF YOU HAVE KIDS WITH YOU DO NOT GO! The younger lady at the front desk was awesome and beyond nice but the old lady was VERY rude about us having our 2 well behaved children that were in a stroller with us. Not only that but she had the security people follow us through EVERY exhibit and made the whole experience very uncomfortable for us. So thanks for ruining it for us ye old witch.

The FIA is an amazing art gallery located in the heart of Flint. They offer different art classes for anyone interested in learning. Admission is very affordable and on many days the galleries are open to the public for free.

Michigan is lucky to have 2 world-class art museums: Flint Institute of Arts, as well as Detroit Institute of Arts. FIA is unique in having a great collection of modern and contemporary art, plus a new glass gallery that doubles the amount of time one should spend at the museum. It also offers a robust catalog of art classes that one would normally find at a university. Enjoy your visit!

This is one of my favorite places. It isnt Michigans biggest or best art museum. It is so much more than what youd think youd find in a city the size of Flint. Its permanent galleries have great works from throughout the world and past two or three millenia. Even when Im sure I wont, I always enjoy & learn from their special exhibits. Ive had several nice lunches here and always wish I had more to spend at the gift shop, which is better thought-out and better priced than most museum gift shops. Its well worth my 65 mile drive. Beyond that, if youre looking for a place to take kids or aging parents, its very simple to get to and free parking (in front and behind) is very close to the entrances. Its very wheelchair/stroller friendly. And the layout couldnt be simpler. At a leisurely pace, you can enjoy most everything in 3-4 hours.

I love and now live for the arts. I must admit my talent in that area is a little rusty thats why Im considering learning it. As a growing child it builded up naturally mostly thru the music spectrum. Poetry and creative writing at 12 center campus, art teacher on last visit to Twn and lastly continuing education interest in AA field of Liberal Arts. I liked having a class in the arts as an elementary student so I hope the milage funding continues.

We had a lot of fun at the FIA. I especially enjoyed the audio tour element and seeing the contemporary glass exhibit after watching a free glass blowing demonstration. Im taking off one star only because their gift shop had very limited branded merchandise to chose from. Most of it was artsy merchandise you could get anywhere or art being sold by individual artists. I only saw two scratched up magnets and a key chain with the FIA logo. I was looking forward to getting a souvenir from my trip and was sad that I left without one.

This is a much more interesting place to visit frequently than, say, the Cincinnati Art Museum, based on the permanent exhibits. We were lucky to see several special exhibits as well, and it was well worth the two hours it involved picking up the great-grandmother of my baby son and getting her to the FIA. She was in a wheelchair and my son was in a stroller. It was an easy place to navigate.I also enjoyed the museum shop and the café. I highly recommend this little gem. Its not as small as it seems.

The art itself was great, loved it. However, I was made VERY uncomfortable when I noticed that a specific security guard was following me.He proceeded to follow me the entire time I was there, moving to each room I entered.I understand that the institute would like to prevent any damage to their exhibits, but overall the fact that I was singled out and followed made my visit very unpleasant.

The art exhibits were excellent. The facility was spotless. BUT, I was an employed black man, with a good job, and it seemed I was followed around, like I was a criminal. Maybe be cause I was wearing gym clothes. I was in a relax mode, cause I had the week off. I just hope they do not treat other black visitors, this way.

This is truly a gem in Michigan. The curation is outstanding, every time weve gone weve been blown away with the special exhibits, and the permanent collection is well balanced. It is a bit small for an art museum, but the quality is well beyond what one might see at similar sized museums, its even better than the DIA in many respects.Only downside, is that there is not much to offer in the cafe...

A beautiful facility with an impressive collection of paintings and sculptures. Admission rates are very reasonable for all they have to offer, and if you are a college student and are part of the Flint College Town community, you can get in for free. This one is definitely worth checking out while in the Flint area.

I must have been living under a rock all these years, what an impressive museum! We went on Target Free Saturday. The special exhibit of the Phelan paintings of various water scenes was great. Didnt have time to do the Sloan museum across the way but that will be a repeat visit.Nice park with lots of picnic tables. The entire cultural center campus is amazing, I had no idea. Sincerely recommend that the promotion be extended to Oakland County, we were approx 1 hour away and very happy to make the trek.

The FIA is seperated based on the type of art it is. For example, there is a contemporary art section. Some pieces of art are traded out very often so you are set up to see new art every time you visit. The institute is very clean and you are allowed to take pictures of most art piece. The institute also has art classes upstairs. Its a lot of fun to walk around and see new art each time.

On Thanksgiving weekend my family & I visited the FIA and thoroughly enjoyed it! Im a retired figure drawing teacher and wanted to see Drawn to the Figure. It was a beautiful exhibit. I was wondering if this was a traveling exhibit or one the FIA originated from their own collection. I didnt read about the exhibit, unfortunately. We all enjoyed the museum shop and there were some really good sale items for souvenirs! Well be back. Maybe with a bus trip from Fort Wayne. Are there more galleries we could visit while in Flint?

The ladies at the front desk were very nice women, especially the brunette, though I did not catch her name, the store and small cafe are good quality - however, watch out for the blonde lady named Kathy that patrols the gallery, I am not exactly sure how she attained her job, as she has bad manners and is not child friendly at all - other than the experiences I have had with her, the gallery is a wonderful place to visit
