After visiting the Museum of the North (you must see) I wanted to peruse some real native art to find something to take home. Well Eureka!! My first stop I hit gold. The gallery was a bit difficult to get to because of road construction but well worth the effort. Inside I found a nice collection of almost everything one might be interested in - carved ivory, paintings, carved wood, prints, etc... The staff was helpful & informed without being pushy or hovering. I got a couple of small gifts & then some beautiful wood carvings of some loons for my home.

Oh my goodness, when in Alaska, one MUST VISIT the Alaska House Art Gallery! Yolande is the most excellent hostess and Ron will serenade you with his hot guitar jazz! The Native collection of carvings is astounding, and the jewelry, cards, mukluks, and more are wonderful. A MUST SEE IN FAIRBANKS!!!

Really lovely art gallery. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed looking at the art and purchased several small prints to take home.
