We took our sons for a ride on their Ice Cream Train tour. They loved it! The narrator made the announcement it was my sons 8th birthday and we all sang him happy birthday, it made him feel special. Well be back for more rides. Oh, and theyre museum of trains is AWESOME!! A lot of work and creativity went into that.

A family friendly activity to do with the whole family. Its around 2 hours long with a easy to understand narration. At the halfway point you have the option to stop to get ice-cream. Handicap friendly...and super friendly staff. They also have a pretty awesome train room with a HUGE multiple mini trains set up with super nice staff running that room as you wait to board the train. Lots of places to take pictures as well.

Great little railroad excursion! 90 minute round trip, unless youre on the 3pm Sunday train, which stops for a 30 minute icecream stop. No vegan options at ice cream place (maybe their shaved ice might be???) But there is a market behind the ice cream shop which does have vegan popsicles!Awesome experience, the crew really loves what they do and it shows.Thank you!

This was such a cool family outing and experience! All ages from adult down to the 2 year olds loved this train ride that included a wonderful historical overview of the area as we rode through and even a mid way stop for ice cream before heading back. The special treat was a beautiful whale sighting just off shore :) I am so glad the staff and volunteers at Hawaiian Railway are doing all they can to preserve the trains and operation for us to enjoy.

Came for the Halloween haunted ride spookapalooza and it was cute. Perfect for families/kids. The decorations were super awesome according to my daughter.Went to the first ride and arrived early(about an hour ) which was great as it absolutely chaotic by the time we were done with the 20 minute ride. Parking isnt the best but once you park its worth it. Long time to get out.Lots of rocks and walking so be careful if you use a cane/walker/stroller etc.Only talked to the ticket person but friendly.Very busy with long lines. Fairly organized but with all the people it can be hard to know where to go or what line is for what. Hope to come back for a non haunted ride.

I attended the Holiday train ride. The toy train museum is truly a hidden gem! There is a lot of detail placed into designing the tiny town that the different trains run through that even non train enthusiasts will be impressed. The trains that one can ride on are beautifully maintained. The staff are all knowledgeable about the history of trains in Hawaii and take an immense pride in the work they perform there.

Nothing out of the ordinary. It is exactly what our says it is... a 2 hour round trip ride with a stop at two scoops icecream. They talk about some of the things you see along the way and give a bit of history. There is a nice breeze add the train moves. The tour guide talks about ice cream just enough that everyone on the train heads straight for the parlor and stands in line in the hot sun to get some. There is an island ABC shop just a little ways down the walkway between the restaurant and the coffee shop. They sell icees (1.29 for a small) and dole whip ($3.99 all you can fit in a cup). On the 25 minute stop we had plenty of time to browse the shops and get a snack. Its not a thrilling ride... aaaaaaaand 3 out of 4 kids fell asleep but it is fun to do once.

First time to the Ewa Railway and only to find out that they only get funding from those who ride the train. They are on the National Register of Historic Places but gets NO funding from the federal, state or city governments. So please support them by taking a train ride (their only source of income). On the ride, youll learn the history of the train, the area, who stated the rail system, etc.

Sugarcane, tourism, and the military all contributed to the original railway on Oahu. This bygone era is kept alive by the folks at the Hawaiian Railway Society. The cars are covered, open air revamped Army flatcars with a double row of wooden benches down the middle. The ride itself is an excursion through kiawe trees, what were once cattle pastures, and the suburban outskirts of Kapolei with a nexus at Koolina resort. After stopping for ice cream, the train reverses direction and heads back. With the exception of the Koolina resort, it is not exactly the most picturesque portion of Oahu; however, the staff and volunteers do an admirable job keeping the ride interesting along the way by talking story and sharing historical tidbits. This is definitely a kid friendly experience and a must see for train enthusiasts.

My son was two and a half and when we brought him to the train. Turned that day into the happiest day of his life! At times he could barely stand with his excitement. They have a small engine and train car for kids to climb on that can be fun for kids off all ages, even adults like me who is still often like a kid. On the train ride you get great views of the ocean, Makakilo, a few beaches and some fields. We would go here many more times if we still lived right by it. The only downside is that it may be hard to find if you dont know where you are going.

This review is specifically for the Spookapalooza Haunted Train Ride. This event is fantastic!! The train ride itself is great, the staff is great, the grounds seemed clean and well kept. A couple things I would change is to have a story throughout the experience even before you get on the train, more actor interaction, and perhaps a slightly longer ride. That said $5 was the perfect price point for what we received and well be back for sure!!

If youre a train fan, this is a fun and different way to tour the west coast of Oahu. Train ride is about 2 hours from Ewa Beach to Nanakuli and back. The train does not turn around, it just reverses for the return trip. Passengers switch sides to get a different view on the return trip. Narration over the intercom was clear and entertaining, discussing both the scenery and the history of the area. Check the schedule; they only ran on weekends when we visited. Earlier trains are less crowded.

A very cool experience if you are on Oahu. A 1.5-2 hour train ride from Ewa up the West Shore a bit to Kahe Point. Cost is $15 for adult, kids under 12 and adults over 62 are $10. Kids under 2 are free. The train has bench seats; half face the ocean and the other half the mountains. At the turn around point, you switch to the other side of the bench and see the ocean/mountains. Food and drinks are allowed on the train, just manage you trash please. The ride is narrated with neat tidbits of history and info about the train and surrounding area.Of note, the train runs at 1 and 3pm every Saturday and Sunday. The 1pm trains are about 1.5 hours while the 3pm trains are 2 hours because they stop in KoOlina for ice cream. There are about 180-200 tickets per train. You can get tickets two hours prior to departure and I highly recommend you do as our train sold out. Lastly, at the KoOlina ice cream stop....they tell you to be back on the train by a certain time or they will leave you. Our train had 45 people not get back in time and got left. Not the trains fault that if you do not pay attention to your watch! Workers have schedules to follow and their families to see also!

Operations Manager was quite aggressive on asking if our service animal was in fact a service animal. This is after notifying the ticket office of bringing our service animal in, and being told we would most likely be asked for papers. Which is of course not within the ADA law covering service animals. Granted I was not backing down to his intimidation, and was giving some push back. This man was very quick to use the I was a Police Officer for 21 years, I know what to ask!. This man is in a position dealing with the public not as an enforcer but in hospitality. His people skills need some major overhaul! If we had not already bought the tickets would have left! Thankfully all other staff were quite friendly with special shout out to Ben! Thank you much for asking if I needed the lift (which I did, have mobility challenges and was using walker that day) all people are to stand in line, there are benches close by for those who are unable to stand for any amount of time, not permitted to enter first like on airplanes but small details. The best views are only of the ocean. Before that lots of urban and homeless scenery before entering KoOlina. On way back option to go to an Ice Cream shop for only ice cream. Apparently 2scoops does not have enough staff to handle the guests coming from the railroad. There is a lift on one of the open railcars. However the ramp up to office is incredibly steep and picnic area not accessible from gravel parking lot. Bathrooms do not have grab bars. With this attraction being run mostly by volunteers I would expect higher standards, due to money coming in goes strictly for maintenance and upkeep of grounds in addition to the railroad engines.

First it was exciting to find restored, the train that used to sit rusting in the Waialua Park near the sugar mill. That train is known among train enthusiasts as the Waco 6. The train along with other trains at the museum are deeply intertwined with Hawaiis (more specifically Oahu s) history. People such as King Kalakaua, James Campbell and Benjamin Franklin Dillimgham were contemporaries. The latter two men were instrumental in establishing Hawaiis sugar industry. The now deceased Walter Dillingham is the son of Benjamin Franklin Dillingham. Walter Dillingham helped develop urban Honolulu. The trains were used in the sugar industry and also used to transport munitions during the war years.Weekly, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, train rides are available on a first come first served basis. Being a non profit train society, funds derived from the train ride fares are a major source of income. Volunteers are welcome and come from the islands and from the mainland (i.e., continental USA) as well. Now, enjoyable night rides on Halloween and Christmas are also on the schedule. Halloween rides require a costume. : )
