Negligible approach, easy access to bolted top rope anchors, warm sun from 10am onwards
We drove to the overlook at the top of the butte and hiked down the trail that leads to The Columns. It was a great hike with awesome vistas of Eugene. Several climbers were practicing their technique on the rocks while we were there. We chose the pathway that leads up and to the right when hiking back up from The Columns. It’s a more strenuous route but gets you back to your car quicker.
Good place for a few climbs or to practice trad. Great place to get a feel for basalt columns before a trip to somewhere heavy in them.
Great begining routs. Fun place if your learning
Beats hell outa an indoor gym. Free and always waiting. Good long crack practice...
This is an incredible rock formation just about as close to downtown Eugene as you can get. Plenty of anchors at the top for redundant protection on most climbs. A lot of people also trad climb the cracks. It can get busy though, so you wont always be able to do the climb that you prefer right away but most folks are pretty nice about sharing the formation.
Easier than it looks. First timer.
Really awesome rock climbing wall. I always enjoy watching the climbers.
Great spot for rope climbing and hiking
A little piece of the wild. Right downtown @ Skinners butte park. Old large well maintained park.
Awesome little spot to climb. Only downside is it was pretty busy for such a small area.
Great for climbing. They do have a board that has the info on level of difficulty but make sure to bring all your harnesses, rope and helmet. Some part of the rock is slippery and damp.
Beautiful and nice stairway hike to the top of Skinner Butte
Cool local geological feature. Did not realize there was an outdoor climbing spot so close by. Will have to check it out when it dries up again.
This place was really cool. Unfortunately there were some interesting vagrants sleeping around the trail. If you go keep in mind you could encounter someone sleeping or camped out.
I wish people wouldn’t smoke weed. But great local crag!
If you like to climb this a great little spot to train. Not the biggest wall and there are a lot of cracks, but it is local.
Great public climbing area with multiple anchors points that you can walk around to.
Great morning climbing. Easy access for single pitch top rope.
Got in 6 climbs for our honeymoon!
